In Halo 3, DLC wasn’t required and I don’t remember people complaining about it too much. Now, in Reach, it isn’t required, and it is pretty much impossible to get some of the maps unless you go into the designated playlists for DLC. It seems like a pretty bad idea to me, to not let the people who support your company by buying map packs actually play said maps.
EDIT: My bad, I made it sound like it should be required in all playlist all the time. What I meant, was in main gametypes (Slayer, BTB, Obj, etc.).
People didn’t buy Reach’s DLC because Reach wasn’t as good of a game.
If Halo 4 is better than Reach, it will have better DLC sales… (unless people assume that its DLC won’t do well solely because Reach’s didn’t.) Meaning that DLC requirements will be unnecessary.
Hopefully there’ll be more choice in what map a group can play on than there is in Reach, definitely one of the game’s weaker points I have to say, and no ‘penalising’ or separate braketting of people who haven’t bought DLC maps.
Heroic and Legendary were only required for BTB and a few others, one of which was free and the other was pretty cheap anyway. As long as they’re reasonably priced, I’d like to see them required for a few playlists.

This
Halo 3 did well becuase the DlC was Awesome it had variety as well as new landscapes and a decent Forge pallet on most maps (Unlike Halo Reach)
True. I bought two Reach map packs, and the maps are great, but I’ve only played them in Squad DLC, which I can’t even play with my friends. I say make the maps cheaper, and make them required in more playlists. Even giving extra little bonuses like in Battlefield 3 would be nice.
Why would you want the publisher to limit your ability to the play the game unless you pay them to allow you to continue playing certain aspects of the game?

do not do what you say, it will be the downfall of the Halo, no one can play the multiplayer will be the end of the Halo. Except those that have the DLC but in the Halo person are buying so it’s not worth the penalty.Halo 3 to made this error which caused its loss, which has made a game very poorly considered and of poor quality. The only reason that there is not the DLC in the classical playlist is that there is not a lot of players have downloaded them, therefore have an option pack.Want you we force to pay more dear to can thing?
> What if they just charged an extra 10$ at launch and guarantee 9 new maps, one to be released every few weeks over the next 6 months. (Free of course)

> I think this could make 343/-Yoink!- money, and keep the game ultra fresh.
Yes in edition limited his might work and even in the best of the hope.
Yah I honestly have only played on the DLC maps I downloaded like a few times, and im like a forerunner I think? It was annoying paying for them and barley playing on them.

I’m still having trouble understanding you some times…
But from what you’re trying to say… don’t make DLC required, but give more options for those who have it?
And, did you just say that Halo 3 was a poorly considered and poorly made game?
> Yes like Halo 3 with only 3 playlist not required for the DLC.

That could actually work.
You’re matched up with others who chose that option and are given a more DLC based set of options for the game.
its not hard its just that bungie and 343 in reach couldnt be bothered!!
it makes so much more sense, that way like i havent got the last map pack in Halo 3 which means i cant play BTB but i REALY want to, if there was BTB and DLC BTB it would mean that i can still play it, just i cant play it with DLC, on Reach you just NEVER get a DLC map which is just purely annoying seeming we bought the map packs!!
343, SORT IT OUT!!!
are you able to make my one an option on ur vote please
Yes, for some playlists, DLC should definitely be mandatory just like in Halo 3. More people will have the DLC because a lot of people are buying the limited edition, and also, it’ll probably be a better game than Reach that’s filled with replay value.
