I want to play Arena again, and I refuse to play with AR/magnum as start weapons.
If someone gets one of the few BR’s or power weapon on the map they can literally farm people with no contest, its just plain dumb. If 343I really wanted arena to be ‘competitive Esports’ they wouldn’t have given us crap loadouts that cater to people who can’t aim and spray and pray/beat down/nade spam to victory.
I enjoy playing arena, and I refuse to play with BR as start weapons.
If someone wants to get a power weapon on the map they can literally not get there because of people camping with no contest, its just plain dumb.
If 343i really wanted arena to be ‘competitive Esports’ they would keep these loadouts as people who can aim use the pistol effectively until they find a better precision weapon and using the AR effectively in close range fights leads to victory.

It literally says “control power weapons to win” in the tagline of slayer, thats kinda the whole point the game

The years have proven that there are 2 large groups, one group wants BR starts, the other wants AR starts. It has been and will always be this way. I want BR starts myself, but it’s best to ask if another playlist can be created called Team BRs which has a mix of slayer and objective game types and preferably no radar and no breakout. Since Halo 2 there has always been the option to play whichever starting weapon type you like, but right now, that choice has been removed.
Pistol is perfectly capable for people who want to (aim) Br pistol playlist (hardcore) would be nice, but most of the maps arnt Really capable of handling BR starts yets. I could see three maps handling it well, but I’m sure you’ll get your br starts around Forge time.
What will happen is 343 will test a bunch of playlist the upcoming months and if one if overwhelming popular I’m sure they will make it permanent. I could see doubles and hardcore getting a permanent playlist. Maybe action sack, maybe multi-team, infection. Hopefully they add oddball in haven’t seen it yet, but it’s a fun game type for hardcore. And if you want a br so bad play warzone for now and wait five -Yoinking!- min.

Map control and fighting for weapons is what defines halo multiplayer. Halo 4 didn’t have either which was the main reason everyone hated it

Not sure about you friend but no one ever used anything else besides the Battle Rifle and a few Power Weapons (such as Rocket Launcher) in my experience.
This isn’t really a debate about AR vs BR, it is BR vs pistol. For me and most of the competitive players I have talked to, the H5 pistol takes more skill to be precise and land your shots than the H5 BR. Isn’t that something the Halo community has been asking for? A utility weapon that has the potential for true skill gap.
The assault rifle really is irrelevant in this discussion, because if you’re getting killed by it, you’re either missing your shots or getting out positioned. The pistol has the potential to outshoot the assault rifle at just about any range, as long as you’re landing your shots. To me, it has the perfect balance, and there are plenty of precision weapons on the arena maps with really short respawn times. I see this argument as more of an unwillingness to change your perception of Halo meta.

> No, just no. Quit asking.
Why? Why can’t there be a BR playlist? We BR start supporters just want ONE playlist to be BR starts, not ALL. People who love AR/Pistol can stay in the AR/Pistol playlists and the people who enjoy BR starts can play in the BR starts playlist. It’s not that much to ask for. In Halo 2 & 3, you had both options that pleased both parties. Why can’t this happen again?

The pistol does take more skill, but if you want a true skill gap in games then all precision weapons on the map must be removed. Then you have truly even matches where you either use your pistol or use a true power weapon. The reason some competitive people want BR starts is that if the other team picks up precision weapons, power weapons and holds down map control it’s much harder to take it back with just a pistol. Is it impossible no, would it be nice to have a playlist option in which you didn’t have that type of imbalance, yes. BR starts means the only advantage you have over the other team at any time is a true power weapon and skill. Once the power weapon runs out, skill is the only factor between why one team holds down the map rather than the other. With pistol starts, the team with the precision weapons isn’t necessarily the more skilled team, they just have an advantage. And don’t use the whole get good and win the battle for the precision weapon, I may win 9 times out of 10, but guess what, nobody wins 10 out of 10.

So, the complaint now is map control problems? That’s a huge portion of the Halo meta, and adding that layer of depth(adding precision weapons into the equation of map control), gives the game so many more options. I haven’t seen the case where a team has completed locked down all spawns of precision weapons and power weapons. It’s nearly impossible I would say, and if it did happen that would be a map spawning flaw, not one of gameplay. There are tons of locations that precision weapons spawn on all maps, and a player being able to utilize the wider range of the Halo weapon sandbox and map knowledge is where I think Halo really is unique. I don’t see how giving everyone a BR at start can enhance that experience at all, especially when it is an easier weapon to use.

I gave an example of why it’s nice to have another variant to play the game. I’m playing AR/Pistol starts now and doing fine. I’m explaining why I would like another playlist and how I believe it to play differently. For example, on Truth, if you get top Carbine, top Pink and Top Mid with precision weapons (1 carbine is on the sides and the BR guy who gets it from the base jumps mid) then it can be quite difficult to re-take control using pistols. On Plaza, if you hold down snipe, one teammate gets the Lightrifle, one gets the BR leaving the other team at yellow with only 1 BR. Once again, making it difficult to take over control when you have just a pistol. Regret is terrible with AR/Pistol starts, but played great in beta with BR starts. Orion has rail gun and DMR at red, which is the better base to hold down and once you get snipe that game is over, can’t come back on it. I could go on and on with examples. You may think taking back control with a weapon disadvantage is fun, I prefer the Halo 1 days where you only pick up a true Power Weapon (rockets/snipe). It’s just a preference. So if you want to go back to the meta then you better be ready to argue Halo 1 and then argue settings in MLG for H2 and H3.
