I just hate the mindset that because you have a challenge to get kills in a mode, you don’t play to win and just go around trying to get kills than the objective. I know I am even guilty of it but I wish playing to win still gives you any other reward.
It’s all in your head. The only thing you get by doing the challenges is getting more cosmetics. Personally, I’ve only gone after the unique spartan body types. The next time you play just don’t open up the challenge menu.
I’ve had to make peace with this kind of crap ever since Modern Warfare 2 (2009) put it into overdrive. It’s no fun how BF and CoD now demand you put in hundreds of hours to get every bit of customization for every gun. That’s why I actually prefer the Halo Infinite system: It really is all cosmetic. None of it affects how you play.
I’m not a huge fan of a lot of how things have been done… but that’s a separate topic.
This is what happens when you make a progression system revolve entirely around challenges. This is why we need MCC’s progression back.
MCC had similar challenges to Infinite, but it wasn’t THE ONLY WAY to progress. There was progression through finishing the game, scoring medals, and KDA performance.
That’s why I don’t play Destiny at all anymore.
I don’t want to grind for stats, I want to work for cool trinkets on a game that’s already fun and good.
Theres that thing. I want the Eaglestrike armor that requires you to DO challenges. Some of those challenges are literally “get 50 kills to complete”. And I seen so many players no go for points because they just go for weapons or run around for kills.
And by the way, any form of reward in Halo will always be towards cosmetics. There is no and should never be a different kind of reward that changes gameplay. Games will always make you work for a cosmetic. Its just if its system is good or bad.
PER MATCH XP
seriously, the fact that 343 removed an feature that encourages good gameplay and to WIN, without worrying about challenges is mind boggling. infinite’s whole progression system needs reworked because in its current state it feels annoying, unfun, and that it was made by people that have no idea what they’re doing
I like cosmetics in Halo, I like to take cool action screenshots of my characters.
I grind parts of the game that I don’t like to unlock them. ![]()
That bites. How many more event challenges do you have to do? I’m bummed that there isn’t even an option to give it the colors I’d like to.
Well currently im stuck on 3 in the background. I don’t have any challenge swaps so I have to do a ranked match, SWAT match, and slayer match-- along with winning CTF match if I win any.
There is that problem too, the freedom to do what I want. I feel like I’m doing errand runs every morning playing this game with a routine. Like they force me to do stuff that I don’t want to do.
I literally just played a couple of slayer matches because I had a couple of challenges to win slayer matches, and I gotta say its the first time I was playing to win and have an actual reason to win, rather than just play to win for its own sake. it felt like playing Halo 3 for that sweet 1 EXP point at the end of the match if your team won.
I dont think they’ll remove challenges from the game because of money, but having challenges like “win a match” rather than “complete a match” as the default daily challenge that gives you 50xp for each match would be great (make it 100xp to balance things out).
I think COD’s system is a lot better than the one in infinite, you just have to grind every weapon one time then you will unlock every attachment forever
I don’t see why we can’t gain XP from K/D and Medals, while challenges are just there for Bonus XP. Challenges shouldn’t be the main focus. They should be the side quest. I should be getting big XP points for these special medals and being the match MVP. You get nothing though, and that’s why nobody ever plays the modes right. Imagine getting XP for capturing or assisting the objective. It would encourage playing the mode with the intent to win. That’s how it should be.
I feel like that only completes half the problem. There is still the idea of being rewarded by playstyle such as, gaining medals. Hell, they could update it with relatively getting more xp if you were getting objectives like capturing control points, or planting seeds.
I think getting XP from medals is a better way to go. But I prefer KDA to not be highly rewarded this game since. I feel like if you can trade a kill and luckily not die, its not something to reward. But getting medals or getting unique or multiple kills is something to highly reward. For example, killing sprees are kind of hard to get now and the NINJA medal literally tells the whole game you been humiliated, even the announcer. Those should be rewarded to the doer.
For real. I’ll go out of my way to get a dumb challenge done than to win the game since thisnis the only way to progress.
Literally takes out the competitive aspect of the game away.
343 are completely useless when it comes to making rational decisions lol.
I’ve had matches with a 20+ K/D. I feel like that deserves 2000 XP. 100 XP per 1.0 K/D, or whatever feels proportional. It could be 50% that. It could be 10% that. Either way, anything is better than nothing. We are talking leveling up our battle pass or rank medals like older Halo games. Doing better in matches should boost our XP.
The problem with that is that it takes 1000xp to level up your battlepass. That means getting a simple 10 kills per match will probably lead you to completing the battlepass by next week. Of course, the pass shouldn’t be the only thing to work for, but having xp determined by kills is just dividing the casuals and tryhard players into an unfair amount of gain. For another example, players in Halo 5 would intentionally not end a Warzone match to grind out kills in order to get the Achilles armor set and that was a Big problem for a while.
It would be the same here, except, it would be about impossible to fix since its possible to “smurf” low elo and grind harder on worse players.
Its why I prefer having your xp be determined by the medals you gain per match. Some medals in Infinite are pretty crazy and more difficult than usual in my eyes, so if you gain a medal, you deserve to be rewarded determined by the rarer the medal.
Maybe kills should just be in your overall Halo profile. Like the average kills per match is 10+, average death 5+, kills per minute is every 4 mins, preferred weapon, sniper and etc. That way, your playstyle per match would be in the system and still be relevant.
I already finish battle passes in 4 weeks because of Double XP, because they are designed to be able to be finished in under 3 months, not 6. Seasons are supposed to be 3 months long, and you are supposed to be able to finish your battle pass in 8 weeks. If they added the addition of kills and medals giving you XP, they could simply scale up the amount of points required to finish the battle pass. It sure never drags out 6 months anyway. If I wanted to grind out my Battle Pass in 2 or 3 weeks, that’s my problem. As it currently stands, I still could, but at 100 points per match, that’s not worth my time.
Counter-point: Doing that grind is a waste of my time.
