Alright so i was thinking about getting the halo novels/books whatever you want to call them. And I was wondering where would I get them? Which do I read first? And how many novels are there.

There are a bunch of novels… trying a quick count in my head probably upwards of 20 including novellas and short story compilations. Use Halopedia, there’s plenty of other threads that will have them all listed in order of release or chronological order.

But, as to the question of which ones… that’s a whole different story. Reading The Fall of Reach, The Flood, and First Strike is a must for any Halo fan as it gives some depth and background/supplemental information for Halo 1 and between H1-H2.

If you enjoyed Halo 4, then read the Forerunner Trilogy of books as it will shed a lot of light on parts of H4’s story (and it’s why Halo 4’s story is my favorite of all Halos so far).

Otherwise, the adventures of Grey Team have two novels, and I enjoyed Last Light which gives an update on Blue Team leading up to Halo 5. There’s a lot of options, including the short story compilations… some of these are better than others, but if you’re a lore fan, they are worth it.

As to where to get them… I mean Amazon? Or, if you prefer to support brick & mortar, I’m sure B&N would carry a copy of most of these… the closest one to me usually has a copy of a fair number of the books on hand.

Amazon is where I get mine.
As for reading books its entirely down to what you want. I recommend Ghost of Onyx. Its my favorite book so far, it gives the origins of the Spartan 3 program and explains where Halsey and Blue team where during Halo 2-3
Fall of Reach is another great one to read (have a guess what its about :))
In the end if you see a book that interests you then go ahead and pick it up and buy it.

A list of all Halo media is here.

And I recommend using Amazon or other similar places for the purchasable media.

If you’re getting them, I’d suggest just buying the first box set (Fall of Reach, the Flood and First Strike). Read them and see what you think. If you like them, buy the other books - I’d recommend getting the second box set first though, as Ghosts of Onyx carries on the story of First Strike - and if you don’t for whatever reason, you’ve not wasted loads of money on a dozen books that you won’t read.

This is how I’d read them in your place:

Fall of Reach, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx
Contact Harvest
Forerunner Saga
Kilo 5 (you’ll need at least Glasslands to cover Onyx cliffhangers)
New Blood
Fractures

Aside from those they’re all pretty standalone or not all too important to be must reads. Just check up what interests you more from the rest and go for it.

Alright thanks for the responses.

I agree with this 100%. Definitely start with The Fall of Reach.

i got the forerunner saga, hunters in the dark, new blood.
also the fall of reach, the flood and first strike in a collection of 3 the box has the original Xbox logo. if that means anything.

You can get all of them on amazon

Start with the Fall of Reach and go from there.

While The Flood is a novelization of Halo: CE, there’s a fair bit in there that adds to it - definitely worth reading.
