In Halo 4, and Reach one of my favourite things were the assassination animations. The one thing that really annoyed me is when a team mate kills the enemy you are assassinating.
I don’t mind show stopping from the other team but when your team mates steal your kill mid-assassination it really annoyed me. I hope they change it.
Any thoughts?
EDIT: As people seem to think I am posting this to say it needs to be changed, and that all other opinions are wrong, I am not. This is my opinion and I wanted to see others. I am not trying to say I am the right one here, merely voicing an opinion. I am not demanding anything.
EDIT 2: I am going to ask for this post to be locked, I understand that a lot of people disagree with what I said, and I have no problem with that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I agree. Very annoying. I think there should be some lock on it that locks both you and him there, and only bullets fired from enemy weapons register on both of you. I don’t see this working out though.
It’s not ideal when a teammate yoinks an assassination.
But sometimes, it just happens in the heat of the moment, without the express intention of yoinking. I feel bad when I do it, but it’s never intentional. Which is why I don’t let it bother me when someone yoinks my assassination.
I hate it too, but it’s better than putting both players in “god mode” while it happens. Just look at Gears of War 1. You were put in god mode while chainsawing someone and it was incredibly OP.
I just wish people weren’t such jerks. It’s truly sad that I get more nervous seeing a TEAMMATE get near me while I’m assassinating someone than when an ENEMY gets near me.
I always let people have their assassinations.
At least 343 took out that stupid “Yoink!” medal. It literally rewarded people who steal assassinations. Ugh.
> Don’t assassinate, problem solved.
> I mean, it does go faster to just kill the person instead of entering the assassination animation.
>
> I love stealing/Yoinking assassinations because it does make people annoyed. And I don’t really mind when someone steals my assassination.
You specifically make people annoyed and frustrated?
There wouldn’t be a problem if people didn’t shoot at the person being assassinated. Speed doesn’t matter if there’s one person, no danger.
stealing actually annoys some people ? interesting. when i can i always “steal” those kills, but not to go on peoples nerves, but to speed up things. who know’s, maybe there’s an enemy close & i maybe saved his life by “stealing” the kill & cancel his animation, so he’s able to react in time ? i’m just wondered, because i don’t really mind if someone steals my assassination. in the end, it serves my purpose too.

I’d imagine that canceling the assassination in the middle of the animation would leave players disoriented more than anything.

Preach it, brother. I did an accidental Yoink on a recent H4 SWAT match I played on Abandon. I had just gunned down two enemies with the magnum on the central tower, noticed a flicker of movement on the edge of my screen, span and threw a punch right into the chest of an assassination victim. I felt bad about it and ran away.
It’s good the Yoink medal is gone. Maybe you disable the ability to Yoink, but you can still showstop (save your teammate)
Complaining about your kill being stolen because you opted to go for an assassination is like complaining about being killed while teabagging someone. In both cases, you’re doing something that serves no purpose other than taunting the enemy. If you want to taunt the enemy, be prepared for the consequences.
If you don’t want your kill to be “yoinked,” then tap the melee button instead of holding it. This is fundamentally different from the Gears of War comparison made because in Gears of War there was no “instant kill” alternative to the chainsaw.
It is just annoying when someone takes your kill, even when they don’t mean to. I don’t always think omg I hate you you stole my kill, I think why isn’t there something in place to stop that from happening.
I am aware it happens by accident as I have done it my self before and felt guilty.
If the option to steal was taken away then the accidental incidents wouldn’t happen and neither would the trolling. (In my opinion if you steal it intentionally like the person said above to annoy people, you are just trolling.)
I would say fair enough if people are doing it to save you but no one really assassinates in competitive play anyway, it will be in a more casual environment. So when I get one I would rather die than get it stolen.

I do it because it makes me feel like better about my self playing than just smacking someone in the back, it is a cool mechanic so I am not doing it just to taunt people. It is also to kill people when tea bagging is just pure taunting after death.
Another thing is that I see a lot of people complain on these forums and then say it is providing feedback, in this case I think it is just something I thought I would come up with based on my opinion. I am not saying it needs to be taken out, I am saying I would like it to, and now is the time to suggest ideas for Halo 5.

Terrible comparison.
When a player goes in for a -Yoink!-, They know they are taking a risk at getting killed. But it doesn’t matter most of the time. Why? Because the -Yoink!- victim is already dead. You’ve already killed them.
Assassination’s are a different story. They are a more elaborate way of killing a enemy. Having that moment taken away from you is just like a slap in the face.
It’s just like Taunt Kills in TF2. It’s a fancy way of killing a player because it’s risky, And getting it taken away from you just makes you feel stupid and annoyed.
OT: Perhaps a way to fix this would be to have the Assassination victim become Immune to friendly players fire. YOU can still die from teammates or enemy fire, But your victim is safe from your teammates, But not your knife. Make it a custom games option.

I agree with the -Yoink!- thing. If I got killed teabagging I wouldn’t fill cheated, I would feel it was my own fault. I don’t feel that killing my opponent in a cool way makes me deserve a team steal. As I said I don’t mind an enemy interrupting it and killing me, because again I assassinate at my own risk.
As to your suggestion I think it is a good idea of how to get past the problem. Hopefully it will become more apparent to make a difference outside of custom games.
Why shouldn’t you be punished for going in for a needlessly flashy kill? Getting an amazing no-scope is a great way to get a flashy kill, but it feels pretty dumb when you keep missing and get killed or someone else kills the guy you’re attacking.
You lost the kill because you opted for a risky means of getting a kill. You made a bad judgment call on how to get a kill. If you don’t want your kill stolen, don’t hold down the button.

Why should you be punished for going in for a flashy kill when there is no further danger?
We’re not talking about assassinations in the heat of a battle, surrounded by the entire other team.
You go in and assassinate someone alone, and your teamate comes up behind and guns them down before the animation is finished, while they clearly saw the assassination in progress.
Tell me why you should be punished in that situation.
For the same reason you should be punished for standing on an idle player’s head and teabagging them.
You’re teabagging an idle player’s head. Your teammate turns, sees the player, and immediately kills them while you’re on their head. Are you angry that they “stole” your flashy kill that was not a danger to anyone?
If you want your kill, make it as quick and to the point as possible. The more time it takes, the more you’re opening yourself up to losing that kill. Your decision to take your time doesn’t mean that the game should grant you kill-steal guard of some sort.
