I disagree, what they know won’t hurt them and I doubt anybody who wants to wear it would care if a select few can’t see it. Its not a matter of us vs them, its just about making everyone happy.
having an option to disable certain customization would be nice for those who want that sort of thing.
Exactly, if we want the Halo Infinite MP to work while being free we cannot afford the luxury of a button that deactivates the main source of income for the game.
You’re right, it doesn’t mean it isn’t a valid request, however, the world doesn’t revolve around You. Don’t like the look of something? Simply just don’t look at it.
Personally, I really think the 20th Anniversary cosmetics for MCC are hideous and I would never wear them, but I’m not gonna yell at anyone who wears them, or demand that 343 cater to me and remove them from the game or add a toggle.
Frankly, I think the toggle in MCC, while sensible when you consider it was requested to preserve how those games looked in the past, is more or less leading to folks requesting every single thing under the sun be behind a toggle. It’s not necessary and I think people just need to learn to deal with it.
Like, I understand why the OP and others feel the way the do, but this whole line of how “distracting” they are feels flimsy. I’m dodging bullets, plasma, grenades, and all sorts of other things. I have never been distracted by any VFX another player has equipped. I think trying to say they are a major distraction is a wild exaggeration.
I always despised the grunt party thing from Halo Reach. I don’t mind visual VFX but noises bother me. Now i have to endure them in Halo 4 as well. So i support this fully, disabling them would be superb…
Except, its not all. Its just VFX. A precedent made by other games, not MCC. And is far more reasonable, than certain helmets.
Not to mention, realistically nobody would actually be bothered by its implementation.
I never said it revolved around me, this argument holds no weight. I’m asking, not demanding. Furthermore, a toggle already exists in MCC for you. Which, should and thus it does.
Not to mention, its clearly not JUST me that wants this given that VFX toggles exist in other games. Infinite would do nothing but benefit from this.
I don’t feel strongly one way or the other about cosmetics; I’m just saying that the economic case is very one-sided for universal visibility of cosmetics. Games like For Honor’s millions are not what MS cares about; they’re looking at the billions being generated by flagship games’ cosmetics purchases annually. And flagship MP F2P games do not allow you to toggle off viewing cosmetics.
Games are not made for “making everyone happy”; they’re made for “making money”. So an option to hide your ability to see another player’s customization would contribute to buyer reluctance per “I might as well not spend money on this cosmetic because I’m not sure everyone can see it anyway”. And customization is literally the heart of Halo Infinite multiplayer’s existence: without paid cosmetics, there is no Halo Infinite multiplayer. Nothing that could possibly contribute to chilling buyer sentiment will be implemented.
Let’s just make a toggle for everything these days. I don’t like the color red, can we have a toggle so I don’t have to see it? I don’t like any form of customization either so I’d like a toggle to disable my eyesight.
VFX have been a part of Halo for a very, very long time. I don’t think they’re going anywhere mate. It’s a core part of Halo and has been for a long time. 343’s resources are better spent on something else than making a toggle for everything they make.
I can live with this, as people will just exclusively gun for “Master Gucci” anyways and completely rofl stomp him for dressing so obnoxiously.
It’s more fun that way.
It is not a question of whether or not its implementation bothers, it is a question of having a more global and less individualistic vision. Implementing that button is, undeniably, something that will negatively affect the life of the PM in the long run.
You’re crying about having to see them in the game tho, so how doesn’t it revolve around you? JUST SIMPLY DON’T LOOK AT THEM…
NOT TO MENTION… what are you even doing when you play the game? I’m too busy killing people and trying not to be killed, if you’re doing anything BUT THAT, Idk why you’re even playing the game in the first place. If you’re focused on their armor rather than shooting back at them, you gotta reevaluate how to play video games.
I agree. I know people want to express themselves, but conversely I’m a huge fan of immersion.
In regards to something like say Call of Duty: people say “Well it’s just an arcade shooter not a mil-sim” but if you look at CoD4 or World at War the presentation is serious. Every character and just about every gun look like they belong. I just like games where 99% of stuff looks like it belongs. Same reason I abhorred armor effects in Reach.
I would just love a canon vs all toggle. Want to stick to purely canon armor representation? Boom. Want everything canon or not? Boom.
I dunno, if you can toggle it off it makes those things less valuable and ultimately does hinder expression.
The player chose the VFX stuff because it is how they want other players to see them in game.
I’m prob not using any flame heads or such personally but if that’s how another person wants to appear I think they are entitled to it and I dont feel entitled to an option that detracts from their power of expression.
To say they are distractions to me opens up a can of worms because the same can be said for environmental elements, or plasma nades or just about any explosive.
Yes those are tied to the gameplay but if they aren’t part of the engagement you are currently having and off to the side then one could claim them as distracting.
The fact is ill probably see human torch coming at me before they see me so ill take the visual info advantage and let them be seen as they prefer win win.
Its a war game simulation silliness won’t break my immersion or anything.
I mean these Spartans are immortal and can spawn infinitely after all.
They will not let you disable them because of how the MP is monetized - customizations.
The expectation is that if you see someone wearing an item you find cool, you will be encouraged to purchase the battle-pass.
Crying? I’m fine with not looking at them, never said I wouldn’t stop playing Halo because of them. Thing is though, airing criticisms and feedback is the point of these forums.
Not to mention, what kind of Halo player are you that your sole purpose for ‘contributing’ to this discussion is to pathetically wail that those you disagree with are screaming children and aren’t playing the game?
Its about the worst thing I’ve had to read in here. If what I want gets you so upset; don’t participate in the discussion? Because frankly, there’s zero merit to your angry tantrum posting.
I just don’t buy that realistically it’d bother anyone. I don’t think or have ever heard of cosmetic toggles bothering people.
I get what you’re sayibg though so my plea is likely in vain.
There are a few problems with your post here. Firstly, some people did have a problem with flames and armors like hayabusa/katana for being “non-halo”. So this is a simple non-argument that can be treated as such. And regardless, those armors justified their own existence in various ways.
1: They were earned, not bought. You had to go into campaign or multiplayer and earn them through achievements. This meant that they weren’t over saturated in game. Armor sets like recon weren’t even available for regular players until 2010.
2: They still kept the overall look of mjolnir. Hayabusa didn’t change the gauntlets, the legs, the undersuit, etc of a spartan. They weren’t too drastic in the grand scheme of things and thus they were acceptable. Did you see anyone complain when 343 added the fireteam raven armor to the mcc? Or elite armor into halo 3? Or fotus/achilles armor into halo 4/5?
- And arguably the most important point, armor effects are exactly that; armor effects. They are added on top of an already existing art style. But do note that this is a different topic from that of the armors. The armors are already a part of that existing armor style.
So what is the problem?
