You say you do not want them in/a toggle but why? They aren’t that bad. Why the hate for vfx?
While I like some of the VFX I can understand how OP feels. At the very least, I hope there is an option in theater to disable them.
Would be cool if the Death animation is a customisation for when that specific effect was to play. E.G. IF you get disintegrated you play the custom disintegration. But I doubt that’s how it works.
Not everything can or should be a toggle. There have to be some things where it’s just take-it-or-leave-it. I think VFX Cosmetics and other creative decisions they’ve made on multiplayer mechanics & design are some of those things. There are plenty of options in the game now; 343i deserves to let the rest of the game speak for itself.
Yes please 343. I never liked seeing storm clouds and stink fog bouncing around on the maps.
Across all of social media, armor, and armor effects, are complained about wayyyyyyy too much and I just don’t get it… wtf are y’all doing when you play MP? I’m too busy killing people and trying not to be killed, ya know, the point of the game.
Dude out here talking about not wanting to see flaming helmets, how do you even have the time to see them? I’m racing against the clock trying to rack up kills to win, as well as trying to stay alive.
You’re allowed to dislike them - there are plenty of things I dislike - but then to complain about them and say you don’t want to see them, nah, I’m sorry but that’s a You problem.
The stink cloud armour effect makes me very sad.
TBF, this should be a feature in any game that has cosmetics and 14 year olds playing.
I still have nightmares from the Pizaa MOzzie skin in R6 that Twitch gave out…
Then there’s the bullet/death effects in MW19 lol
I’m almost certain that there is a toggle feature to disable your own as well as all other players custom character assets and skins in MCC. Where as you said players are still free to use whatever they please however if you toggle the feature off, you will never see custom assets in your game/screen.
Doesn’t really seem like a feature they’d remove.
My guess is that economics will determine this, not player preference. Here’s why:
- Entire MP suite is free, so Company makes no retail sales revenue.
- All MP-related revenue must come from post-launch in-game transactions.
- Players do not want in-game transactions to include substantially game-affecting items, so Company limits all in-game purchases to cosmetics.
- Therefore, cosmetics = 100% of revenue from MP suite.
- Company anticipates (accurately) that increase in population of Group That Toggles Off Seeing Cosmetics → decrease among Group That Would Purchase Cosmetics population’s motivation to buy something that exclusively has value in being seen (the very definition of cosmetics). Therefore, Company does not allow Person 1 to disable seeing cosmetics in order to preserve Person 2’s urge to buy cosmetics.
The psychology of “My character looks cool” is significantly intertwined with the potential of being seen by other players. Even if a person says “I just like how it looks” and/or would never know the names of strangers who see the character, exhibiting a personal style has always been a deeply motivating driver for many other participants in the currently billion-dollar industry of in-game purchases. So my guess is we’ll all be able to see someone else’s Master Gucci for a while.
I can see where you’re coming from. I always loved the flaming helmets but the full body vfx I wasn’t a fan of. Also think it would be cool if you could toggle this sort of thing off.
This does not make sense to me. 343 decided to make the current disintegration effect as bland as possible so you can later upgrade it to the original effect as a cosmetic?
I know everyone wants a toggle option for everything these days, but I think a canon toggle for multiplayer armor would really be the simplest solution here. And I’m personally not really bothered by the vfx. Just seems to make sense as they already have something similar in MCC. Either it looks like it fits in-universe or it’s as crazy as can be.
I dont like the toggle idea at all. people customize their spartan how they want it to look and to stand out/show off their unqiue appearance, and the toggle takes away their ability to show their unqiue look from some players. like im MCC, if you have a full set of season 8 armor, and someone has the toggle on, you look like just a default spartan to that person/people. just wanted to mention what i thought thats all
I agree 100%. with all the optimization they already have with infinite, it’s probably my number 1 wish for what can be toggled on/off.
Halo’s VFX have generally been unobtrusive in the past (minus grunt bday and the hearts one IMO).
So I get why people don’t mind them or think they’re fun, but for me I’m a HUGE immersion fan, and would love the option to have a more “grounded” multiplayer experience without all the VFX stuff. And if I’m in the mood to switch it, just hit the toggle and that’s that. Seems like a win win for everyone to me.
Side note: Played For Honor where the effects were a NIGHTMARE so I 100% get where you’re coming from OP. I was so happy when they added the disable option LOL
Halo 3 did have flaming helmets but it was exclusively for Bungie employees. The chance of coming across one was slim to none unless you were dedicated enough in your hunt for the flaming helmet.
One of the key differences, however, is that the Cosmetics Purchaser paid for the benefit of knowing that their customization can be seen by others, while the Viewing Player did not pay for the multiplayer game and the benefit of not seeing Cosmetics Purchaser’s customization. And again, since this entire model of GaaS relies on cosmetics purchases, the player who spent money has a stronger case–at least in matters of customization visibility–than the player who has not. That’s just business, and making/maintaining AAA games is all business.
Personally i’ve never liked armor effects either. 1: they are extremely distracting, and affect gameplay as the create a large glowing target. 2: they aren’t canon and break the immersion. It would greatly be appreciated if there was a toggle for the armor effects and other non-canon cosmetics.
I’d argue that if anything, VFX. Should be toggle-able, given its very nature of being obnoxious and distracting. Grunt birthday parties, ect.
I think your passive aggression is a You problem. And saying the obvious, and thinking you’re making a point is a You problem. Obviously, given that I’m asking for it its obviously a me problem. Toggles are all about preference for the player.
Just because its preference, doesn’t mean it isn’t a valid request.
