please improve firefight!

I throughly enjoyed the firefight in ODST but found it lacking in reach. And for the longest time ive been trying to figure out why. Then today i figured it out, theres no challenge no…fight for your life. Firefight limited was a good step in the right direction. Arcade fight is okay every now and then. But its just boring no risk unlimited ammo etc. everyone chooses it because they get so many credits.

The firefight anniversary playlist is a complete waste, every game type is from arcade fight and all you have to do is camp the top with rockets. Theres even no point for the ODST buddies when you don’t have a threat.

What they should do is diversify the playlist have arcade options and limited. But also have doubles solo and normal 4 player versions of both types. Also increase the amount of credits to that of arcade.

I know 343 probably won’t make these changes wich is sad because its a complete waste of a great idea.

TLDR: firefight was fun because it was a challenge and the firefight we have now is boring.

I agree. Look at the number of playlists we have for competitive. Combined with invasion, community, and anniversary playlists, we have over a dozen (off the top of my head.) I think that should justify the existence of at least that many different firefight playlists, each with their own unique experience.

Limited, mythic, gruntpocalypse, and SpartansVsElites, just to name a few.

I personally am not a fan of the “fight-for-your-life” kind of fire fight. the most fun I’ve ever had in Reach was on the “Get endure in under 15 minutes” gametype; with a sniper, 300% damage, 300% speed, 300% jump, infinite jet pack,invincibility,elite generals only, 1SK’s always, and ridiculous bonus rounds of 25+ generals on the map at time. I personally find “fight for your life” just frustrating and if it weren’t for achievements and challenges I wouldn’t touch things like Endure in ODST or LASO missions with a 10 foot poll. I also think a lot of the community feels this way aswell.

Not to say though that you should be left out for the “greater good” though. Wasn’t there a “classic” firefight playlist that played similar to ODST? or is that “limited”? If so, why were these settings sub-par in your mind (I never played it)?

Its meant to be fight for your life not a shooting gallery gametype (im sorry but that basically what it is on matchmaking) the most fun i have on firefight is customs where thensettings are as close to odst as you can get (and one where spartans are tweeked to be more like chief on CE)

Speak for yourself–the gametype you just described sounds like the epitome of mindlessness to me. Boooooooring. I wouldn’t touch that with a 10 foot pole. “Oooo look green fire and xplozionz ZOMG.” Give me a break.

OT: Limited was good, but unless you played with friends it was frustrating to play with morons jetpacking with ARs and chewing up your lives. I think a better way to go would have been to give everyone a bank of 2 or 3 lives.

However, I agree with you, OP, that that survival instinct is missing from Reach’s Firefight. Another option I feel would have helped this would to have limited ammo pickups from the crates as opposed to making them unlimited. No weapon crates is too stingy, but making them have only a couple spare full DMRs and Magnums like ODST in some options would have been cool.

Now, if I want to emulate the survival feel a little, I go to Score Attack and try to get perfections. It’s moderetely difficult on some maps, especially in straight-up Score Attack. Damn auto-aim FRG Grunts and invis Elites that like to sneak up behind you and -Yoink!- slap you.

I just want limited back, it was my favorite of not just firefight but the whole game. I realize it wasn’t very popular but… what’s wrong with options? =(

Limited was fun for a little bit, but impatient people ruined the fun. You’d have one or two guys just rush out there to die and chew up lives. Once all the lives were gone, they would quit the game and make the next round harder on the rest of us.

yes there was firefight limited. but that got bumped after anniversary came out. and anniversary FF is a waste of space if your read the OP.

i understand some people don’t like the fight for your life. I understand some people want to just kick back and waste coives. but we should have both options.

i have a gametype close to classic FF. but what saddens me is i cant go online with others and play this. Or make a decent amount of CR playing it either.

343 shouldn’t cater to only one side.

i agree. thats why i suggested the new “classic” playlist should have a single like score attack doubles and standard. because i didn’t touch limited alot due to my team eating lives. yes i COULD play with friends, but with the amount of new games out its hard to pull them away.

i actually stumbled upon your video about this subject a few days ago. It actually helped me finally realize why FF in reach lacked the fun rom ODST. i figured id make a thread about it as well to help raise awarness.

You know FF doesn’t get the attention it deserves. It’s a great addition to the online community. I just wish they would put the original firefight gametype with the original loadouts and VS. FF. Is that really so much to ask for?

I think in Reach they should of had the flood as an optional choice to fight against aswell, even though it is not in the reach campaign it still would of been fun.
