Please implement Marcus Lehto's high fidelity Mark V

Would love this to be added to all titles. Particularly, CE, H2, H3 and Reach and maybe ODST Firefight(for Spartan Firefight if that ever gets made).

Personally, I’d entirely replace CEA Mark V with it. Also, please hire back Marcus along with Marty.

How is this clickbait? I guess they don’t like Marcus Lehto - who is one of the core people who created these games.

Amazing.

As of late I have a tendency to not reply to what I would categorize as ‘fantasy fan requests’, but your response deserves a reply. Sure it would be awesome to have any X feature in the MCC, but realistically speaking there are a number of technical and legal reasons why a number of these features can’t be added.

In the case of Lehto’s recreation of the Mark V it would be a matter of both. CE wasn’t built with armor (or more accurately biped) customization in mind. The MCC team would have to build new code that has to pass all sorts of QA red tape to even be released in retail. Hell I don’t even know if CE’s engine can handle all those polygon without something acting up.

On the other side I know Marcus released all the assets for free, but there is a big difference between modders and hobbyists using his work and a trillion dollar corporation looking to use it. I doubt Marcus would just sign away for free when he knows he could get a decent check for permission of use.

And lastly I doubt Marty or Marcus would want to come back and work on Halo. Marcus is head of his own studio at EA and Marty has a pretty sour history with 343. Marty loves Halo, but I doubt he would love to work with 343.

I’ve seen a large influx of threads like this since the digsite news and after a while the community can only handle so much wishful thinking. For what it’s worth I don’t think your thread is bait, but a lot of folks are probably exhausted from the ‘MCC needs to have X ‘ template.

Suppose that response is due to creating multiple threads instead of consolidating these requests for additional content within a single thread?

Also, the request for officially deleting 343i-era models/content from the first Halo title they released as a studio (no matter if it was a remastering or mostly contracted out) and replacing it with Legacy/Bungie models/content. That’s somewhat of a baited/barbed comment.

Just to be clear, I’m an insider and have provided a hell of a lot of good feedback that goes way, way beyond “X cosmetic item would be nice”. Probably more than many/most people and I’ve always stated ad nauseum that - obviously - bug fixes and restorative changes should be Priority A1 above anything else.

Most of the points of concern being raised are moot:

  • I’m not talking about adding code to CE or any other title to allow for biped/armour customization. I’m saying slap the same old skeleton into an updated model and be able to choose which non-customizable model to use. Same idea when I say CE Elites or concept armours should be playable in CE. Am I wrong in assuming that’s somewhat straightforward?

  • The fidelity of Marcus Lehto’s modernized Mark V potentially being too high is a non-issue because high polygon models can be slightly downscaled to have them function in a game or he could make one for gameplay from the ground up if needed. If he wanted to be paid, then just pay him you cheapskates haha.

  • Fair point about Marcus being busy heading an EA studio which I wasn’t aware of when I started this thread. But Marty himself has said that he’s keen to return to Halo to make music but 343i aren’t interested, they won’t pick up the phone; that is a disgrace and if he dies before he can return it is utterly unforgivable. I flatout refuse to ever stop singing the praises of people like Marty and Marcus and advocating their return. They created Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST and Halo Reach and are creative heroes of mine.

  • I never requested they officially remove 343i models/content and replace it with better/Bungie/Legacy content. I said that is what I personally would do.

I say this with dismay but in a humorous lighthearted sort of way. The generally overblown cynical reaction to this thread reminds me of this scene:

I will say that adding new Chief models to Halo 1 is probably a lot more achievable/probable than adding (effective!) playable Elites. (And I honestly hope the former, including some of the Digsite content, is officially implemented to MCC H1 at some point in 2023 or such.)

But from personal experiences with modding (and experiencing others’ modded content) regarding playable Elites in H1… they are seriously sketch and would require intensive work to achieve full capability.

I can imagine yeah. The 2 additions I most hope are added to CE are usable CE Energy Swords and cream of the crop mod maps(that don’t overwrite any default maps).

Honestly, while I’d love to see the sword made usable, I’d also hope they give the CE sandbox a once over at the same time to potentially add some, if not most, of that digsite content they showed off.

That gets me thinking. I’d like to see more faithful remasters of CE and 2. CEA was a low effort attempt. And 2 Anniversary has a downright false color palette. Halo 2 has mostly warmer lighting, but the Anniversary visuals use very cool, harsh lighting most of the time. A lot of people who praise 2 Anniversary clearly don’t have an intimate understanding of Halo 2’s visuals. If Halo 3 (and ODST because they share so many assets) is ever given a new coat of paint, I hope they don’t mess with the colors.

To everyone: The next time you play through Halo 2, do yourself a favor and swap between graphics in every room, and look at the overall color temperature and lights in the game. It’s very off, just like CEA.
