So far I have enjoyed using the DMR extensively in Halo4. It has served its purpose very well and I have enjoyed the obvious benefits it offers. I started playing Halo online with Reach so the DMR was a natural choice anyway.
Having yesterday; Mastered and maxed out the DMR commendation, now I have no real reason to use it. I want to use a different main weapon that is not a crutch, and I want to improve my overall gameplay.
However, I am finding it very difficult to switch to any of the other rifles. They just feel - Weak.
I would appreciate any recommendations on which rifle I should move onto next…BR, Carbine, Light Rifle? What is the next ‘easiest’ from the DMR?
Also tips on how to use them efficiently: I gave the BR a try and could not get many kills at all!
Any help in this respect greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
Wait for the second title update.
Well all 4 of the rifles are good it’s just that the DMR is good at everything where as the other 3 weapons are balanced and have strengths and weaknesses. The Battle Rifle and Carbine are more medium range.
The Battle Rifle does more damage per burst but the Carbine is a bit more accurate and fires much faster. The LightRifle is better for longer ranges, and in my opinion works best on the bigger maps in Big Team Slayer.
The problem is being that the other 3 rifles are actually not going to win every battle for you, so they take a bit before you get the hang of them, rather than the DMR’s “pull the trigger as fast as you can to win” ability. Just keep trying with whatever one you like the most and you’ll get the hang of it.

Or that, haha.
I think the Carbine or the Lightrifle will help ease you off your addiction
Always keep moving and strafing when using the Carbine, the more shots that miss give you a better chance of taking down enemies while firing away on the trigger. It may take more hits to kill an enemy, but with practice the additional shots won’t matter if you’re moving and firing fast enough.
The Lightrifle packs the punch of the DMR when scoped so use it on the larger maps as you please. The unscoped burst-fire will also help your technique for the BR too.
It’s important to remember that the Lightrifle fires slower than other rifles, but steady aim and proper timing make it just as deadly as the BR and DMR in it’s respective uses.
If you’re trying to fight at long range a lot, the BR and Carbine won’t do you any good at all. That’s best saved for scoped in Light Rifle, where it’s stronger than the DMR and has the fastest kill time, but is harder to use. Stick to close-mid range for BR and Carbine.
The next easiest from the DMR though is the BR, then to me, followed by the LR and then the Carbine. I just need to finish Carbine left, but it’s proving to be the most frustrating for me. Working on that final level of it.
Also here’s a helpful thread with statistics about the precision primaries.

The light rifle definitely will help.
The hit scan is the same
It hits harder then the DMR at range
and in mid range you can out shoot most others since it’s accuracy is amazing.
Every time you fire the DMR god kills a kitten/puppy.
That should do it.
edited to please dog people…
