Nothing grinds my gears more than being in an arena match and winning and someone quit, lag out, accidentally suicide twice. And then staying out numbered the whole match.

Or better chance of being blindsided, ganged-up on, hunted down and less teammates to have your back if things don’t go as planned. Also less people to help you secure power weapons when they spawn.
Having people join mid-game would open up a can of worms though. You could get someone who is actually worse, and people could be carried to victory by coming in with the game half-way over. But I would rather have people join than deal with a breakout match or Slayer where two players drop out on my team once they start losing
