I am a huge fan of Halo CE and was extremely disappointed when the Halo CE Anniversary Edition did not have CE multiplayer. When I found out MCC would have CE multiplayer with dedicated servers I could have not been more happy. But I am a bit worried.
In the original Halo CE the Field of View (FOV) was significantly higher than the newer Halo games. And even in the Anniversary Edition the FOV was lower than in the original version. The lower. In fact the FOV is so low it gives me a headache playing the game! it feels like I am running around zoomed in. With widescreen the FOV should be even higher, not lower!
Standard FOV in widescreen games is over 100 degrees. I personally prefer 120 FOV for 16:9 which is the standard ratio 1080p. The latest update for Halo PC allows you to set the FOV to whatever you want, which is awesome.
I hope the FOV is higher in CE in the MCC, because a low FOV could easily ruin the experience.
This would be a change Im actually in favor of. When Halo CE came out it was probably most commonly played on square shaped TVs of that era. Now most people have widescreen TVs. If the game is being modernized this is an aspect that should be considered.
I prefer 90-135 FOV as well, depends on the game. However, I don’t think they’ll be changing it for any of the games in the MCC. The point is to have the games feel like they did 10 years ago, but altering the FOV will change how the look and play.
Now, they could also add an FOV slider, but I’d oppose that for the same reason that CS:GO has it disabled, which is fair play. If everyone has the same FOV, nobody has an advantage in any given situation.
> Well… That’s what the 1080p boost in /most/ of the games is for. I don’t think the results are the same for every television, but that can be chalked up to what you currently watch Television on.

> If you look at his visor it goes all the way to the sides of his head. So going by that logic they should have a 180 degree FOV.
yep. it wouldn’t make any sense for spartans to be limited in what they can see.
I seriously hope that the new Halo 5 engine can handle a better FOV than ever CE had, but I’m worried because it’ll be at 60fps.
I guess I’m kinda skeptical they’ll boost it much, if at all in this case, either, since they’re also getting it to 60fps.
Then there’s the issue of the Viewmodels likely being meant to only be shown at the specific FOV you see them at, meaning that increasing it could require extra work if you don’t want it to look like hands are floating everywhere.

Actually, leaving the FOV at the original level will alter how it looks and plays too, unless you’re still using a 4:3 screen. Low FOV on a 16:9 screen doesn’t look or play very well for most people, so increasing it could even make it feel more accurate than leaving it because it won’t feel squished in. The original look and feel was not squished in.
This really only applies to CE and 2 though, as everything after was made for 16:9 anyway. That said, Halo3 could still do with a bump.

Agreed. 180 it.
Though if too much is going on on the screen it could cause problems.
> In the original Halo CE the Field of View (FOV) was significantly higher than the newer Halo games.
Sort of. FoV in the original Halo was normalized basically identically to ODST’s. The others are normalized lower.
Although with exception to Halo 3, horizontal FoV is actually higher in the other games’ 16:9 views than in Halo 1’s 4:3 view.
> And even in the Anniversary Edition the FOV was lower than in the original version.
No it isn’t, except for split-screen, which does indeed suck in CEA. Strictly speaking you can actually see more during single-screen play, because they expanded the FoV horizontally to accommodate the wider aspect ratio.
> Standard FOV in widescreen games is over 100 degrees.
I would be fine if that were true, but it isn’t, especially in the console space.
> I agree with OP, they need to make it bigger for 5 too, I hated it in 2, and 3 was just a bit better than that but still not good enough…
Aside from split-screen (Halo 2’s split-screen views are AWFUL), Halo 3’s FoVs are actually lower than Halo 2’s.
