Hey All I just need to get this out there,
I need to admit something. As much as I love you, I cannot live a lie anymore. I remember the first time I played you and I immediately fell in love. I have given you hundreds of hours and hundreds of dollars over the past decade but I am at my breaking point. You have changed into someone unrecognizable. I have defended you to my friends. They laugh every time I spend time with you. Out of fandom and out of pride I have stuck by and defended you, praying for signs of what you used to be. Praying that this was just a phase. No more. I have been tortured by gimmicky playlists overdue double xp weekends but it still doesn’t feel the same. You are a shell of your former self. Campaign plot holes, micro transactions, esports catered gameplay. You used to be fun and wholesome. Good for my soul. Please get better, I will try to support you while I can because I know you can do better in the future. It is no longer healthy for me to live in our past. 343i if you are reading this (I know you are), understand you have a large portion of the halo fan base effectively mourning the death of a franchise thanks to Halo 5. Do your job. Make it right.
whats with the confusion? he is talking about the franchise. i agree, rigth now feels like apple without steve jobs, there are no great ideas. good but not great

All of these problems existed way before Halo 5. This isn’t some new revelation.
Even believing that the game “caters to the e-sports crowd” is wrong because the competitive community doesn’t like what happened in Halo 5 either, and almost none of their complaints were listened to in a timely manner. And either way, it’s just going in a complete opposite direction from when it completely catered to the “casual” crowd in Halo 4.
I understand the frustration. When my mates play it’s always H3, H4, Reach or sometimes MCC but never H5 anymore. None are getting H6 preorder or 1st day release. Everyone is going to wait to see if H6 is worth it and it’s a shame it has come to this.

I think that this is not related to the topic, but, I don’t think anyone should buy something if they don’t know if it’s worth it… Even if the company did a good job making good things before, you can’t know what will happen.
THIS IS NOT A RANT PLEASE READ ALL BEFORE COMMENTING IN A CALM VOICE.
They may not listen to competitive players but man every change in the game was there to make a contender with counter strike. In the process, they lost all their fun playlists, introduced a micro transaction system to give us free maps which are just forge maps like wtf, ruined the lighting and shading which was in the beta cause people were -Yoinking!- they could not see someone in a corner which I personally had no problems with, shipped a lackluster campaign putting it kindly, added stupid gimicks like spartan charge and ground pound, made maps small and boring, gun models for the br are crap (heavy opinion), no Br start just looks dumb when you fire a pistol as your utility weapon, made automatics really strong for some reason. It took them forever to get big team as a map and milk money from the community. The progression is heavily in favor of firefight players because of the rng system. No splitscreen to play with my friend. Lack of social playlists to play with buddies that come over and want to play as guest accounts.
What i am saying here, is that the game never and will never be a complete package like the previous iterations of the game. Every halo game delivered all those aspects as they were introduced. You may hate armor lock from reach and bloom but you can’t say the game was not a full package full of content. Halo 5 shows just how much of a shell of a game it is compared to other halos and other games in general. Maps are just not fun in multiplayer to be competitive. Same thing happened to destiny 2 now with its neew 4v4 competitive streak they are trying to do. The fun aspects of the game suffer. Halo 5 took no step forwards in any category.
Now i don’t want a halo 2,3,reach clone. I don’t mind changes, but don’t change the core of the game like in 4 or strip down only to the core like they did in 5 and added some dumb gimicks on top of that. Make your maps look good and amazing. Limit rng, have certain armor be obtained by feats like reaching diamond, onyx, platinum, etc. Or getting x amount of kills with weapon. Make sure all playlists are there at launch and work. Don’t over use forge maps for dlc. Make the game graphically and visually look good. And for the love of god do the little stuff right. Black under suits, more customization of different armor pieces. WE dont need100’s of armor reskins through rng. 343 you know what to do at this point. And i really do feel for op because i felt the same way. I put stupid amounts of horus in halo 5 hoping for updates to the game. But they just arent coming. All i can do is hope for halo 6 to be good.

So you are waiting to make an informed purchase? You should be doing that anyways.
Well Halo is dying. Sure there are still people playing but odds are there will always be some sort of player base. As some here know my Xbox one is dead, won’t recognize any controller whether wired or wireless. Now I love the Halo franchise but there isn’t a Halo game on the Xbox one good enough for me to be willing to buy another console. The Halo games on the Xbox 360 were so great I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another system, I am on my third Xbox 360. Last night after a little GTA San Andreas I decided to play some Reach. There was a little over 3000 people playing it. I mainly played the firefight but just pointing out people are still playing it. I just don’t see Halo ever being very popular any more. 343 has really lost my confidence. Halo 5 is an alright game but it’s just to repetitive really. Warzone was a good concept but far to few maps and far to many repeated objectives, especially in firefight. Arena wasn’t really good till the BTB refresh stage but by then quite a few seem to have given up on the game. With H6 no where in site it is definitely not looking good for Halo. Question is will the Xbox one X and the 4k update bring any players back… Time will tell. I am not sure if I will indeed get a Xbox one X but if I do odds are I will be playing the LA Noire remaster that Rockstar games confirmed.

Just an update from the OP, I wrote this post when I was very upset. I have since started playing Halo 5 again thanks to the Xbox One X update. While I still agree with a lot of what I said, I just wanna clarify the post wasn’t supposed to be aggressive or angry towards 343i, I just needed to get that off my chest.

Glad to hear you made it back to the fold! We all get frustrated at times, and I don’t see any problems with expressing that as long as it’s done in a constructive and respectful manner. I remember reading your OP and appreciated the unique way you went about. And even the fact that you are coming back to let us know how things have changed. It’s a good example to others that the angst does not always last.

I agree here, good response Dax and completely respect your post and update OP, this is a good example of why I like waypoint and the Halo community.
