As im sure we all know by now weapons will be unlocked by leveling up in matchmaking (if you don’t please view the video at the bottom at 1:10 seconds in). Whats the big deal about this? Why is this -Yoink- moaning? Well to clarify why, first of all we play Halo because it was unique and we loved the game how it was, does this mean I have to now run around for the first 20 levels firing an assault rifle like a noob getting beatdown kills before I can unlock the BR? Proper Halo puts everyone in a fair scenario spawning with the same weapons with us fighting for powerups, this is NOT going to be fair at all. What does this mean about leveling up specifically for better weapons? Does this mean we will have the same -Yoink- rank system like in Reach where you’re going to be paired with complete newbies against hardcore pros in specific matchtypes, or if we get a skill based rank system like in Halos 2 and 3 its going to take quite a while of being an AR noob to unlock specific weapons. 343 PLEASE sort this out this is NOT going to benefit Halo at all, why can’t we just have the same fun ol’ matchmaking but tweaked only slightly. What are your opinions on this folks?
Yep, it sucks. And unfortunately, it’s not going anywhere. So I hope for competitive/hardcore/classic playlists without character progression and perks. The whole section of MP would be even better.
It has been discussed multiple times because im sure the players and community are all uncertain of this.
Again does this mean we are going to have the exact same flawed rank system in Reach? We need a better rank system that is a perfect combination for the casual gamers and the pros that want to show of their ranks.

This doesn’t benefit halo as its NOT halo. Halo everyone is put into a fair scenario with the same weapons fighting for our powerups. Thats what halo was all about for 9 years straight before Reach came. I do expect some response at least even if I can’t get them to change the coding at least a reasonable explanation why this was implemented would be lovely.
But what would this mean about ranking up (assuming people will play to unlock decent loadout weapons such as the BR and DMR)? Would the Reach rank system be implemented into Halo 4 or will the ranks take more skill to unlock with it being an estimate of your performance in each playlist in comparison to Reach where you could be a general whos only played MLG against an inheritor who has only played firefight.
I’m a pluralist when it comes to Halo an competitive matchmaking playlists, have been since Halo 3 and what it brought to the table as far as game variant options.
Infinity Slayer should stay with all its bonus point scoring, level progression and loadout customization as it stands. It’s fine for folks who dig it, and it looks like a blast.
But also make sure at launch there’s a Slayer playlist with no loadouts, default starting weapons in every game variant, game variants with no AA and/or no sprint, but definitely no AA across the board and always the same familiar kill scoring we’ve come to expect.
Allowing people to play this to earn XP and credit toward unlocking everything and then make and take our loadouts into Infinity Slayer and Spartan Ops will give incentive to competitive players that prefer the core Halo experience to mingle in the role-playing shooter aspects of Spartan Ops and Infinity Slayer with others. This wouldn’t segregate the population at all; quite the opposite, it would give all of us more reason to experience the variety of gameplay Halo 4 has to offer.
If what we’ve been hearing is true- that the core mechanics of movement, melee, grenades and gunplay are faithful to the Halo experience we’ve come to love playing, it seems stupid to not allow players to experience that.
Not to mention for that tried and true play style to benefit from the all the improvements to community map creation and customization that they’ve yet to reveal, so aspiring mapmakers will design with more than just slayer with abilities sprint and custom loadout in mind. This makes for better content from the community as well.
The player population is absolutely large enough for the two to coexist in separate playlists. And from what we’ve heard about the development of separate experience ranking and skill rating systems, it’s large enough for the playlists to support their own skill ranking so we know how well we’re doing against players that are better or worse overall in that particular playlist’s gameplay.
TL;DR: Restricting us to only playing Halo with RPG elements on top is a bad move.
Giving the option through playlist variety, to play with the core Halo and Halo with new-school shooter / RPG elements on top is genius.
I imagine that from the start either the BR or DMR will be available. Yes, the BR is unlocked in the video, but that isn’t a completed version of the game, and I somehow doubt that you’d only unlock it at Major Grade III in the final game. I think it was just an example of what a weapon unlock looks like in that video.

So how will it benefit Halo? That’s what we need to be talking about here.
There is one simple solution if this is how it works.
You play Spartan OPs until you hit max rank with all your goodies so that you can be happy.
I’m still thinking with an open mind to all these changes, even if it progresses from here into more changes to 5-6. We’ve come a long way since H1 and these changes are made to bring in new players. Hate to say it but it looks like it’s to attract CoD fans in a way.
To be honest, most players will probably have unlocked everything important in the first week or two. So who cares? I don’t. If anything, I wish I’d have more to unlock a couple of months in.
I can GUARANTEE that if you play through the Campaign, and/or the first 5 missions of Spartan Ops before jumping into Multiplayer you’ll unlock at least the BR, which is the only actually important weapon.
And worse comes to worst, play Classic, or a non-loadout oriented playlist until you get exactly the gear you want.
Good news! Unlike Call of Duty, where you are limited to getting your -Yoink- kicked over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over…and over and over and over and over and over again to unlock stuff,
You can select the map-appropriate option that 343 has created, that can contain the battle rifle or DMR and not get screwed over 99% of the time.
Also,
You can play Spartan Ops until your weapon of choice is unlocked!
Instead of spending time complaining, look up information before doing so. This game is not taking the Call of Duty route, where you have to suffer before enjoying the game.
Halo 4 is either already at gold or close to being gold. (Gold means its ready to be shipped out to start being manufactured.) Games have to be gold 3-6 months before release so that way any errors during manufacturing can be fixed and an appropriate number of copies of the game can be made and shipped to retailers. Given the massive size of the fan base for this game, they’ll need millions of units for Nov 5th-6th (midnight opening and all). That means they have to have the game completed or nearly complete by this time so they can get it to the manufacturer and start pumping out copies for shipment. At this point EVERYONE is too late asking for gameplay changes to fundamental features.
