So you don’t show up when still?. So while it might encourage moving around freely the end result is a section will always love to camp in this situation. I’ve not played MCC in some time but didn’t we always show on the radar in those games? the original trilogy I mean.?.

In the older games, you always show on radar unless you’re standing still or crouch walking. This gives an advantage to the camper, and even worse, it discourages players from moving around freely.

While it’s true that you can still camp with the new radar, most of that advantage is gone because your aggressors won’t appear on your radar.

> I have a hunch the reason they’re doing that is to make sprint not as buffed as it is in the other games, for E.g. Sprinting might be a faster alternative, but it also gives up your position as walking might be a slower alternative, but it does not give up your position.

I feel like sprint is in it’s best state with infinite, you can reload while sprinting, recharge shields while in sprint, have weapons ready immediately when you come out of sprint, BUT the sprint only gives a very minimal speed boost and is only really useful over long distance running as shown in this video (meaning arena maps won’t be stretched out as far as previous titles like 4 or 5):

Sprint honestly seems just like a modern trend they implemented but doesn't affect the whole core gameplay, except for the sprint slide which honestly seems like it is going to innovate movement in halo and create a skill gap IMO.

But I don’t believe this should be one of the reasons you pop up on the radar along side shooting, I believe the radar should stay constant and pick up those who are also at walking pace, BUT then again it should have layers as someone mentioned before picking up enemies at different ranges and can only detects enemies on the radar at those ranges due to certain actions they may do.

Having someone be able to walk around the map without popping up on the radar is great way to encourage movement and to not camp, but also I can just imagine the amount of smooth brain moments that will happen if two opponents are next to each other and literally won’t be able to see each other on the radar.

Then again there are a ton of new features like the threat detector/sensor which is a literal UAV, the outline which I personally found to be both good and jarring (good in the sense of player personality, jarring in the sense you can see and enemy across the map with those such bright outlines), and how if it shows an ally in combat it marks them with an exclamation mark “!”, and finally their new pinging system which is supposedly supposed to work on the same effective levels as apex legends.

Overall interesting and great topic but definitely hard to find a concrete/definitive answer that could ‘solve’ this issue some people have with the new radar system.

I think the change is stupid and i have never heard anyone complain about radar until they changed it. this is how its been for the past 20 years and it has been fine for 20 years. Its a motion sensor and walking is motion. To me halo has always been a casual game that has fun prioritized over competitive play. if there insistent on keeping the new radar make it in ranked only and use the old radar for social .

What version of Halo were you playing? Halo essentially was the foundation for competitive gaming…

I think the only change they need to make to the minimap is to add octagonal edges around the map that light up red indicating the direction you hear gunfire, like in other fps’. I can’t tell through my stereo speakers where the sound is meant to be coming from, but surely my character knows? (maybe not he does have a helmet on)

Excuse me…what radar?
