Ok so I played with 2 friends, all 10 games, all slayer and all at the same time, my friend with the lowest kda got ranked diamond 4, I got ranked platinum 4 and I had 1 more kda than him, why ?
We think its because he was diamond last season and I was platinum, so past ranks count heavily on your new rank, However, the third friend, who had the best kda of all 3, was also higher ranked than both of us last season but he STILL got placed diamond 2.
The more I think about it, the less sense it makes.
Exact same thing happened to me! I did my 10 placement matches for Team Slayer with the same 3 people and this is what happened:
friend A’s KD 1.3 - placed Diamond 4
friend B’s KD 0.9 - placed Diamond 1
my KD 1.2 - placed Platinum 4 (KD is for the placement games overall, and we won 9 of 10 games)
Really makes no sense to me :S it must take in to account your last seasons ranking too when giving you your new season rank, because that’s the only logical explanation I can see, as both of my friends ended last season in high Diamond whereas I stayed in Platinum since I didn’t bother as much with team slayer. However, my understanding was that it only uses your last season ranking to determine who you get matched against for your placement matches, rather than for actually determining your rank? If it uses your last season ranking to also determine your new rank… what’s the point in getting new ranks?!

Exactly, I am pretty sure your past season rank(s) really influence the one you’ll get for the month, still doesn’t make sense that my friend who had a higher kda and higher rank the past season got ranked lower than my other friend, however, thinking about it, it does make sense that they use past ranks, if you are regulary in the high diamonds and you get a unlucky streak for your first 10 games in a new month, it would be lame to be ranked gold 6 or something, I only started playing 2 months ago so this is the 3rd time I got ranked, last month when I got ranked platinum something, I just told myself screw it, I’ll have more luck next month, as I am at the very least worthy of a high end diamond rating and didn’t play that mode all month thinking it would be a waste of time, they don’t want players to think like I did, the placements games are just a checker to be sure you didn’t improve or got bad all of a sudden, you should always been in the same ranks every month and progress slowly towards a higher rank, if you are good enough.

Interesting you say that because in the February season I peaked at around Onyx 1575 in Team Arena, and ended the season with a lower Onyx. However, in pretty much all 10 placement games for March (played as a team of 4) I was against plats and we never even got the chance to prove ourselves against diamonds, resulting in me being ranked Platinum. Worked my way up to Onyx 1680 eventually, but it just shows that it hasn’t happened in the past in regards to taking previous ranks in to account.

Simple. It doesnt work. I beat dimonds continually in placement. My rank dimond 1. Should have been onyx.
In other words 343 havent got a clue and dont care. Dog excrement works better than this trash

Yup, best theory so far; it doesn’t work., it puts you at a random 8 ranks from what you sould be.
