I noticed a trend in gaming recently and it even dates back to Halo 2. Game devs release a game that doesn’t support certain gametypes too well at launch. BTB in particular. Halo 2 had great launch maps but their were gaps that needed filled. Same thing for Halo 3. It’s like each game has 2-4 BTB maps and 7-10 Small to medium sized maps. Please give us a healthy dose of maps for everything. 4-6 maps that work great for objective games. 4-6 maps that work great for slayer and 4-6 maps or so for BTB. Reach is the perfect example of a game that needed a ton of loving for BTB. Not everyone is going to buy DLC so the whole “lets launch this thing and fill in the gaps later” doesn’t really work.
Release the game with a healthy amount of maps that for each playlist. That’s all I’m asking for. I’d rather not play the same couple BTB maps over and over and over.
On a side note…
If the next “Forge map” is going to be like forgeworld with same textures and time of day and weather don’t clutter all the playlists with these maps.
It was way too late to ask for certain sizes for kinds of maps about 5 months ago. Sorry dude! but good topic, your post was well written and thought out…just a little late? But I do agree with you
As far as DLC goes, make it required so people buy the DLC? lol Otherwise we’ll get a repeat with Reach and no one will have the majority of it’s extra kontent. I really hope 343 puts their foot down in regards to this. I mean it’s Halo DLC, there shouldn’t be any worry it WON’T sell.
There needs to be a good variety of large maps for Big Team. It really kills the excitement just playing on a couple maps over and over, like how Invasion is in Reach.
As long as there is at least 1 or 2 maps that support each gametype/playlist well when the game launches then we’ll be fine. The rest will come through DLC and Forge although I’m with you for not flooding the playlists with Forge maps. I got sick of seeing Forge World’s look everywhere I went.
343 seems to be putting a lot of work into Spartan Ops though so DLC maps don’t seem to be a priority at the moment. Which is both good news (less relying on DLC) and bad news (more Forge maps?).

We’re still over half a year away from release. The longest amount of time I’ve ever heard a team taking on making was Containment from Halo 2 with was 3 months. Their are also small teams that work on the seperate maps so really they should have already been figuring this problem out if not they should get to work on it. I don’t want to be stuck with 3 btb maps to start out with. A game doesn’t usually go gold until a couple months before release. So their is still at the very very least a good 4 months to work on this.
As for the Forge Map, I hope that it is completely different than ForgeWorld this time around. I want something similar to Foundry but much bigger; enough to make a BTB map.

I think he meant Bungie should’ve built those actual maps themselves instead of just Forging them.
