please don't ruin Atriox/Banished in Halo infinite

pretty sure they will make a appearance and I want The Banished to be handled really well and not just destroyed in one game.

Halo Wars 2’s main campaign already ruined my view of them. They had a strong intro but then the rest was just poor writing with claims of him holding back the entire time. But the “Awakening the Nightmare” DLC campaign did redeem their imagine a little bit. Plus Halo Warfleet implies they have a whole lot more sway and power than what was shown in Halo Wars 2. It’s rumored they’ll appear in Halo Shadows of Reach so maybe this is their chance for full redemption as being a formidable force.

I recently replayed Halo Wars 2 and I kind of pondered Atriox and his goals. His actions in the game imply that he either a) severely underestimated the Spirit of Fire or b) decided to kind of toy with the Spirit of Fire because a quick kill might not satisfy his faction’s and his taste for blood. Option A implies that he’s not nearly as cunning as what was thought, and even though it’s an option, I doubt that the only brute leader to defy the Covenant and live would be so dumb.

I think that Option B is the more likely. His crew likely hadn’t seen wide-scale action for a while, as they had done mostly scavenging and small scale acquisitions since about 2553 (before then is the last time they did “significant action” akin to battles and skirmishes, although even these I think pale in comparison to the battle with the Spirit of Fire). Even proving this further is the way he lets Red Team get away, offers Let 'Volir a chance at redemption with the ring (at this point he’s not even that concerned), and this also explains his general absence in the campaign. I think the ending signifies that he knows play time is over, and it’s now time to consider the Spirit of Fire a serious threat; possibly, the action we saw in Halo Wars 2 wasn’t even barely the start of the conflict. Overall, I think the Banished do have a sensical narrative line, even if the Banished we see in the main campaign don’t reflect the ruthlessness they’ve built their empire on.

Awakening the Nightmare is where we got to see the ruthless, unrelenting side of the Banished because Atriox knew they definitely could not afford to toy with the Flood. This is the side I think we’ll see from Atriox and the Banished in Halo Infinite, as opposed to the Halo Wars 2 side. So if you prefer the ruthless side (which I assume you do, as do I), I’d bet that you won’t be disappointed with their Infinite appearance and development.

I see from where you’re coming from TacticalBeasty9, but I really don’t think that’s the case. Atriox only brought his flagship 7to the Arc thinking he wouldn’t encounter much resistance. And technically speaking he was right. I mean, the SoF is an old ship, with outdated tech and limited resources by comparison. The Banished had little to fear - even though the game did a terrible job showcasing it (a general issue of the genre imho). I think they needed to showcase more desperation or failure on the human side of things.

Anyway, the only real reason Atriox lastly lost the battle was because the SoF enabled the Arc’s defences against our beloved Brute-forces. If it wasn’t for that brilliant move, the Banished would have gained control over the installation for sure. It would have taken longer, but victory for the Banished was certain before that! I mean, who could have forseen a devastating attack from millions of sentinels able to cut a Covenant frigate in half?!

So no, imho the Banished are still to be feared imho, it’s just that HW2 did a bad job in showcasing the real difference between the two factions. I think some ingame failures and two more cutscenes were needed! Still an awesome game, but it lacked in narration sadly.
