Please don't put as much effort on Firefight maps for Halo 4

TL;DR at the bottom.
And please, put more effort on Halo 4 multiplayer maps. Let me explain myself.

Halo Reach shipped with 8 default Firefight maps that were only used in 3 playlists and 3 playlists alone: Firefight Arcade, Firefight Doubles and Firefight Limited. Other than that, we never got to enjoy any of those 8 maps in competitve multiplayer, other than a few and horrendous 2v2 elite vs spartan playlists that never worked and were removed quickly enough.

Now I don’t know about you guys, but I really believe that some Firefight maps in Reach were better than some of the default multiplayer maps like Sword Base or Boardwalk, and I think they would have been better additions to the competitive multiplayer experience.

Maps like Beachhead, Outpost or Overlook would have been great additions to the BTB playlist and big team games, and the monotomy imposed by the constant voting of Hemhorrage would have been less painful. Likewise, Holdout, Unearthed or even Corvette would have served as Slayer maps that in my opinion would have surpassed any of the Reach maps like Zealot, which was cut off 50% early in its lifetime, or Boneyard, where only half the map is used outside Invasion.

I really think that 343 should give us the best and most original multiplayer maps they can for Halo 4, and they shouldn’t focus too much on adding tons of new stuff to Firefight, since chances are the Firefight players will remain as maybe 10% of the total population of the game. I do like Firefight, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t think there should have been 8 entire maps made ONLY to be played in Firefight like in Reach, where they would have maybe suited more competitive gameplay in matchmaking.

I’d love to have 16 multiplayer maps on release day that I could play both in matchmaking and firefight, but I guess that’s too much CoD-ish. What are your thoughts on this?

TL;DR
Halo 4 shouldn’t have 8 exclusive maps made entirely for the purpose of playing Firefight in them, like there were in Halo Reach, since chances are those maps will end up being better than the default multiplayer maps. Wouldn’t you want to play Slayer and Firefight on your favorite firefight map?

Hell no. It wasn’t made for those gametypes. And frankly, I do hope they put effort into the Firefight maps. I’d rather have a map that works for Firefight than a map that works for Firefight yet fails at working for Slayer.

To the OP I partially agree. I think that almost all of the maps could have been for BOTH Firefight AND Multiplayer. In fact it could still be possible for 343 to make those maps available for the other playlists.

When I saw Unearthed I immediately thought BIG TEAM! Yet it wasn’t so. On the rare times I play that map in FF, I barely cover 20% of the map. It’s SO unused. It could have made for a good Invasion map as well.

I think it would have been interesting to play Waterfront in MM. A night map would have been different. If not at night then do what they did with Powerhouse and make it a day time map.

Beachhead definitely would have been a good BTB map.

There are so many examples of each map being good for the other gametype.

I DO hope 343 puts effort into FF maps. However, I’d rather they make them playable as MM AND FF. More maps that way and not so much community crap maps. (Sorry folks, but I’m just not a fan of almost all of the community maps with two exceptions).

Do you realise Reach shipped with as many Firefight maps as it did Multiplayer maps. In my opinion, that is absolute madness. It was a case of too many of the Firefight maps being boring and not enough variety in Multiplayer.

Maybe if they had 4-5 really exciting Firefight maps and 11-12 Multiplayer maps, it would have benefitted everyone. Firefight would have been more dynamic with more happening on the maps, and in Multiplayer, we would have been saved from the dull monotony of Forge maps every game.

The design for multiplayer maps and firefight maps are different, and rarely work together.

So, I must completely disagree with this point of this topic: put as much effort as possible into firefight maps, hell, into all aspects of Halo for to make it amazing.
