Seeing as how multiplayer equipment has pickup pads now, I think it’s safe to say Halo 5’s weapon pad system is returning. I really hope this doesn’t mean the game announces what’s spawning and when. It makes spawncamping power weapons way easier.
On the other hand displayed timers can create nice set pieces throughout a game rather than one team getting it for free because they are privy to the timing.

Not going to lie I actually liked the weapon pad call out. The fight for the power weapons in Slayer made for some engaging and stylish battles. “Rockets in 10” you’d see a person engage the sniper, two people sliding toward the weapon, while the other people were supporting or just waiting for the perfect time to launch a grenade to make the weapon fly.

Spawn camping power weapons in old games is far and above easier than H5, because there are tons of times when the other team doesn’t even know the power weapon is coming up. I get the argument that it “takes more skill and experience to know the power weapon timers.” I just think that’s honestly a really bad argument.
What takes more skill? Watching a game clock tick down and then grabbing a power weapon, or having to actually win a firefight against the other team for a power weapon? –
(Assuming incoming arguments of no timer requires more skill) If a simple Google search will give me the power weapon and power up spawn timers, how does it require more skill? I can literally raise my skill ceiling by having my phone next to me, not by practicing my gun play or map positioning…
Not having some sort if UI or audio cue for something as important in a Halo round as power weapons is just old crappy game design.

This knocks it out of the park for my thoughts. I think the way Halo 5 does it promotes way more engaging game flow, while not hurting ‘skill required’ at all. If anything, I would argue it makes it more fun / crazy to battle for the power weapons.
Little unrelated… But I wonder if there will be a BETA for MM. There are rumors or a September release date. That doesn’t realistically give a lot of time to implement adjustments from a BETA (even if it dropped, well, now, basically).
Aye, fair enough to all of you! You’ve broadened my view quite a bit. Can’t say I disagree with much of what y’all are saying in response to my initial opinions. This is why I love discourse in the community.

Leading up to H5 I was very skeptical of the change. Even a while after initial launch while getting used to the weapon pad callouts I still couldn’t decide on what I preferred. After a ton of playtime between legacy titles and H5’s, system, the callouts eventually won out for me.
To be fair, the feature doesn’t have to work the exact same way as H5. I’d be interested in what sorts of changes 343 may have tested. Like maybe audio cues only for the power weapons spawn announcements? Or maybe the on-screen countdown timer icon only being visible if the pad its within line-of-sight?
If i had to brain storm ideas that include the weapon spawn announcements but still benefit players who actually know the spawn timers… I’d say maybe make the countdown timer appear earlier for players closer to the weapon pad? Like players within 10 meters see the timer appear with 30 seconds until spawn. Players 20m-10m away only get to see it with 20 seconds until spawn. Players 20m+ away see it with 10 seconds to go… then you sort of get a mix of old and new.
I actually felt as if this was one of the changes that was actually good. Everyone knows when the power weapons would come in, so now the battle would condense into the surrounding area, which would make teams have to work together to win the series of battles against the opposing team and come out with an advantage.
In previous games, you could get it by sheer chance without the knowledge of anyone else in the game until you struck blood with it. Sure, that’s convenient, but effortless. With 5, you had to fight for it (unless the enemy was dumb, which in that case you already won the match so…), which required effort and skill, making it so much more fulfilling to get.
Anybody who thinks this change is good is just someone who got punked on in the older games. This hand holdinh timer stuff is annoying and the pads are ugly. Why can’t the weapon just be there? Do I need to be constantly reminded that I’m playing something artificial?

Aesthetically the pads are cool. I think they look so much better than the weapon just propped against the wall.
As for the timed call outs. Meh. Good teams will be going for the weapon anyway. And if the teams are mismatched to the point you are going to ‘punk’ the other team - chances are they aren’t going to be good enough to stop you getting it anyway.

I wholeheartedly disagree. The pads are ugly, and eyesores when the weapon hasn’t spawned and there’s this garish spinning holographic in my face if I’m fighting.
Spawning pads make the game easier. Not more casual, or competitive. Just easier. Its always gonna be a no from me.

Thank you so much for being open-minded to constructive critique and dialogue. All too often it’s missing in these forums. You’re absolutely right and this is what 90% of threads should be.
Much respect
