Please don't include Microtransactions (August Edition)

The discussion on purchasable spartan points went about as expected - it seems likely this system will be implemented (egregiously) and eventually scaled back to where the community accepts it. I hope thats not the case. This entire topic is beyond frustrating, and waiting 3 months for this update seems unacceptable.

Let’s discuss!

“This would punish our most engaged players as they would miss out on a lot of SP opportunities from levels they’d already reached”.

Completely nonsensical.
I have over 500 points I’ll seemingly never be able to spend. I dont want to punish other players.
Who are these “most engaged players”?

players will earn a Spartan Point from every level (from Tour 1 through Tour 11 for 329 points total) and players will retroactively receive points from levels they’ve already reached.

Please dont do this. I have too many points. Where did this idea come from? Give players more points per challenge.

“And we will also be looking to bring back Double XP Weekends.”

What is there to look into or think about? Its been YEARS since MCC has had a double XP weekend. What is there to think about if you dont intend to monetize the XP system?

“Having this open dialog with our community is important to us as we navigate this path together.”

Where is this open dialog occurring? It certainly isn’t here. I dont have Twitter, so maybe thats the best Halo Forum to get updates? I have yet to ever see 343 engage on the forums here (not sure if they do?) but calling this an open dialog is silly. I guess its an open dialog in the fact that we can make posts and quibble amongst ourselves.

While the progression system has a ways to go before I feel that it’s a “fair” system the addition of Spartan Points for every level is a welcome one. As someone who has sat on a pile of hundreds of points for quite some time this a big boon for new and old players alike.

Because you actively chose to complete every challenge you could for the xp as you spent the past 2.5 years playing this game solely to get to max rank. You even made the statement that you can now play this game properly to reinforce that you were.

I have been playing frequently since challenges were first implemented. I am just shy of getting to tour 9, and I only have around 15 points saved in the bank because I don’t go out of my way to complete challenges in gametypes/playlists that I don’t want to play. And there’s stuff in the exchange that I’m yet to unlock, such as that bundle that costs 20 points, or this week’s offerings to name a couple. Unlocking these things is treated as a secondary or side objective of mine. I’ll get them when I’m able to. Same as it was for unlocking the season tier pass things.

This idea has been talked about plenty around these here forums, I’m sure you have seen it with how frequently you browse/post. Not sure why you’re choosing to act ignorant to the subject.

Thats a very common statement. “We have the final rank, now we can play the game!”.

Ive never seen a discussion on retroactively rewarding players. Im all for giving them points beyond level 100.

Giveing points for just a level is so stupid. Here’s a participation trophy! Oh that guy who actually played well. Screw him.

There are a lot of ways that 343 could make the grind for experience points and “Spartan” Points so much easier. They could bring back Campaign experience points. I remember when we used have Campaign exp. before the official challenge system/exchange was implemented. Here’s the scaling I’d like to see.

25,000 Exp-Easy
50,000 Exp-Normal
100,000 Exp-Heroic
200,000 Exp-Legendary
400,000 Exp-Legendary; All Scoring Skulls On

It’s just such an easy thing to do and put in. And I think players would very much enjoy having more opportunities to earn experience points once MCC gets to the point where there isn’t enough of a playerbase to maintain a robust online PvP experience.

It would also inspire players to push themselves on harder difficulties outside their comfort zones, and likely help them improve their campaign skill set for challenges. High Risk, High Reward as the saying goes.

I understand that the suggested exp scaling wouldn’t affect seasonal progression, so I had written in another forum earlier about how 343 could make it easier to earn “Spartan" Points from the challenges (God I wish they would just call them “Halo Points.” There’s no need to be so prejudiced against Elites).

Anyways, I know that every week there are 6 “Gold” challenges that currently earn 1 season point per completion, and an addition 7 “Blue” challenges that earn a variety of experience points. This applies to both PvP and PvE.

If 343 can make it so that all of the “Gold” challenges earn 2 points and all of the “Blue” challenges earn 1 point it would a relatively small change But when you add it all up, that allows players to earn a total from 12 points all the way up to 38 points a week. That would incredibly player friendly.

Also, doubling the amount of experience points earned through challenges would also be player friendly and would be incredibly helpful with progression.

I can’t agree more with your stance on MCC being free of microtransactions given implementing MTX into MCC is nothing but a greedy move to have 343 get money out of an already in disarray Halo community that’s waiting for Halo Infinite to be the Halo game that it should have been at launch, instead of the incomplete, unpolished alpha game that it currently is.

It’s even worse when you consider that 343 is even considering adding MTX to MCC given that they said before that MCC would NEVER have microtransactions in their progression systems. Here is the quote and link:

“First, we’re happy to say that Halo: Reach in MCC will in fact have the same level of “mix and match” customization found in the original games (all the individual armor pieces, etc…). As to how it’s earned, we are exploring a new and deeper progression system that retains the feel of the old systems and blends them with newer models for game progression (all based on in-game play, no type of monetization or anything of that nature )” - Quote from Ske7ch on a Reddit AMA prior to Halo Reach flighting on PC (https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/b2yhk8/mcc_pc_halo_reach_and_halo_insider_ama/).
