I think it really shows you where 343/Microsoft’s priorities lie. It is true that businesses need to make money, but MCC has been out so long that this is literally just to wring out a few extra cents from new players because they’d rather add MTX to an 8 year old amalgamation of 10+ year old games than adjust the system to make it more consistent (like adding Spartan Points for levels beyond the first 100).
Halo is clearly currently viewed as just another money udder to run into the ground before moving onto the next half-done product.

All they literally have to do is increase the Spartan Point payout from Challenges, but no we have to include in game purchases in here somehow

They need to keep seasons going if they want to make MTX seem even remotely reasonable… didnt they say this might be the last year of support?
“Hey guys!!! since seasons are a thing of the past, we’re rebranding those points to yet again something involving the word spartan instead of something in lore is some shi. oh and not to mention, did you know there’s like over 1000 items??? Wowie wooow. goodness us new players would be so overwhelmed. so to help them out we’ll just slap a price tag on them. that way we can carry on the tradition we started back in Halo 5
love you guys!!!”
now that that’s out of the way, here’s my idea on making the grind less painful
- throw out the cap that stops you from getting points after lvl 100 (I forget which tier it is)
- add points to all challenges, and up the amount you get
- tie achievements to points or something like in 3
- give special items from doing Legendary/LASO like in 4
- bring back something like companies so groups can grind together like in 5
- make reoccurring esk challenges that require a lot of points in order to finish (Ex kill 500 ultra grunts in Reach campaign, or get 500 kills with the saw), or create it to where it increases value with each completion (T1 is 100 grunts, T2 is 200 grunts, T3 is 300 grunts, and so on, and you get more points as you go)
or you know…do what every Reach baby like myself says and return to Reach’s way of progression to some degree lol
OR even better, I hope what they do with buying spartan points is like buying Monkey Money from Bloons TD 6; it’s there, but it’s not demanding your attention, hence adding more earnable points

That’s the thing. They could make it easier or rather create more avenues to earn spartan points than what is currently present.

Do. Not. Add. Microtransactions. To. Halo: The Master Chief Collection
If you really want players to be able to get season points (or spartan points rather) quickly while not having a lot of time to play, make each challenge completion worth 2 points per challenge. And that means ALL 13 challenges for PvE and PvP EACH. Do NOT Monetize anything, not ARMOR, not VISORS, not ARMOR/HELMET EFFECTS, not WEAPON skins. Do not monetize these things or anything to do with armor customization.
I’m going to lay out some possible avenues for monetization that MAY face less objections, so long as they are REASONABLY priced (as in cheap and affordable and don’t cost more than 50% of the base price of the collection).
Examples include but are not limited to:
Custom Wallpapers
Map Packs made by 343 that have not appeared in ANY of the Halo Games ever released
Custom Editing tools that are not already in the Mod Tools (like a day/night skybox editor)
Admittedly, I’m not a microtransaction/monetization/DLC expert, so some of those ideas might not pan out well. But I feel like there’s a core message that needs to sink in. There should be no monetization in MCC that affects Armor or Weapons in ANY way.

Halo clearly isn’t the flagship franchise anymore so now the exec suits have told 343 to just turn it into a cash cow.
There was no showing for Infinite at either showcase for Xbox because 343 has no idea what they are doing for Infinite.
343 is constantly saying they are hiring. That should tell you something aside from the contract positions. People are probably sick of being attacked by rabid fans that have nothing to do with Infinite’s issues right now and are likely quitting for those reasons. I don’t blame them, I blame 343.

I am commenting just to support that I DO NOT EVER, want microtransactions in MCC.
I do not think people should ever be able to “Skip the grind” with real money, as that invalidates the people who already did the grind to get items.
If 343I wants to consider new options for EARNING spartan points, I am fine with that, for example adding new challenge slots or something like that, because then a player still has to do something, but they should never be able to pay real money to bypass progression.

I hope they don’t make a way to buy Spartan points. That sounds hella lame… If they want MCC to generate money make some dlc content worth buying! But I guess that would take effort and it’s way easier to slap some cat ears on a Spartan and be like Give us our $5 or whatever… I know I would shell out $10 for a map pack, especially if it’s remastered H2 maps for H2A, a pack with Waterworks and terminal for btb… them Colossus, terf, and Gemini granted five maps for $10 is wishful thinking but honestly I would probably go to $20 for that.

I thought part of the reason for content was a good will gesture after completely butchering the game’s launch?
Infinite doin that bad they wanna tax an 8 year old compilation? Shameful.
It not only invalidates the grind but it’s most likely to be followed by a few “changes” to encourage people to buy credits instead of play the game legit.
You can literally earn credits by simply playing campaign. You don’t even need to do the challenges. You earn xp by playing missions.

Ngl I am insanely sick of microtransactions being in every game. It’s the biggest reason I just completely stopped playing Halo Infinite.

What they should do for these new “Spartan points” is this… Make a store with all the past cosmetics and make them available straight away without having to go through all the levels to get stuff. Then players could have access to the stuff they want right way instead of having to unlock how ever many cosmetics to get to the ones they want. That would be better than saying hey give us money for more points to get through the cosmetics faster.

Classic 343.
Adding micro-transactions to the 8 year old last-gen collection of 20 year old games. A collection that was so fundamentally broken, the CEO had to issue a written public apology and gave away Halo 3: ODST as compensation.
I’m guessing that Infinite tanked so incredibly hard that you are now trying to adjust your projections/losses by milking the remaining MCC players.
You somehow managed sink below EA and Activision Blizzard. How is that even possible?
Edit: Kinda funny that 5 out of 6 games weren’t even developed by 343

It embarrassing that I’ve seen anyone here or elsewhere defend this garbage. Talking up all the support that MCC has gotten, without mentioning how the game was left for dead for longer than that and the game only started to get updated again when they needed something to help sell the X1X.
That being said it is nice to see that a lot more people seem to be finally fed up with the constant parade of bad news coming out of 343 even if it took them 10 years. Better late than never.

You know infinite is doing so bad when they have to add microtransactions to mcc to get some money when they said MCC won’t have microtransactions.
For the people who constantly and blindly defend 343 and infinite please explain this of how infinite is doing great?
So far 343 is renaming seasonal points to spartan points and they said it won’t effect the challenges with season points, but how long would that last till they change the challenges to be soooo tedious to try and force people to buy points instead.
Now H2A is getting more content which is just armor ofc this is when they decide to add more to H2A after shunning it for 8 years. But this is still not enough for H2A this is just going to be another Orion armor (which was very cool and I do use) but after they put that into H2A that was it for content for that game.

343, do not add micro transactions to MCC. You’ve proven that with Infinite you want to gouge players out of their money for questionably priced items and bundles. You haven’t even figured out yet set prices for the shop in Infinite because you keep trying to justify price hikes with rarity. Rarity means nothing in Infinite and is just 343 testing the water to see what they can get away with.
Rather than add the option to purchase points, sounds kind of like challenge swaps, offer players more ways to earn points. There’s no need to monetize games that ever had monetization, all you’ll be doing is putting a sour taste in the mouths of people who play MCC.

Last thing i want to see is microtransactions on MCC’s main menu. Especially when Halo: Infinite isn’t content complete.

For one MCC get new players?!? Sure.
Two so that’s why Infinite gets no love… too busy skinning MCC.
I suspect Infinite isn’t earning them the money they are expecting and it’s their own fault. Now they need to find a way to squeeze money out of 343’s IPs for that quarterly reports or their butts are toast.
Remember while H4 and H5 aren’t good games and were considered failures, they were not FINANCIAL failures.
Infinite on the other hand, didn’t launch with a Console and it didn’t contribute to sales of anything. This could be the end of 343 once Quarterly reports come in.
