The latest MCC update talks about adding a way to purchase Spartan points.
Please don’t implement this?
Its bad enough in Infinite, MCC should remain the baseline/model for GOOD “battlepass” design.

I would prefer to not have it, but if it doesn’t make earning spartan points any harder and we get more content because of it I can deal with it
To the management responsible for this decision: I am begging you to reconsider this. There is absolutely no need to make season points purchasable. I remember quite clearly how it was stressed when the season system was flighted that it would be 100 percent FREE and not monetized. This is just insulting.
Season points are plentiful and easy to obtain to any player that starts out. It’s plain greed to pretend otherwise.
I was just thinking about it as I read it that 343 said they wouldn’t add microtransactions into the game. This is just one of many examples why I can’t take anything 343 says anymore seriously. The amount of times they’ve either gone back on their word or have lied to fans is astonishing. If it’s a case where they want more options to get points to players that are either new or don’t play very much, just add more challenges into the game for players to do or just offer more season points.
Giving players the ability to just straight out pay their way through everything will have the same effect as Infinite in the sense where it removes any value of the items people aquire by playing the game as you now will no longer know if someone actually grinded for their items, or just bought their way through. Every Halo game has always had a form of grind/progression (other than CE and Halo 2 if you don’t count rank) and that’s what kept people playing. Removing that in MCC will just hurt the game.
There is literally no reason to add microtransactions into the game other than for corporate greed and my guess partly since Infinite is probably not doing so well financially.
[1] ‘Hey guys, Infinite isn’t making as much money as we wanted it too, what do?’
[2] ‘More people are playing MCC than Infinite, maybe we shoul-‘
[1] ‘Monetise MCC with micro transactions?! Genius. Another bonus for me way to show the community that we care about their time and efforts’
-343i, probably
Absolute insanity and just continues to show how out of touch 343i is if this is the best solution they can think of.
I think they should just add more points for challenges instead.
The only reason they would make a decision like this is to make money, they try to justify it by saying new players have an intimidating amount of pieces to unlock and you can say the same about leveling up/achievements but we don’t sell alternative means to obtain those, it’s not even hard to unlock everything leveling up and earning challenges is easy you can complete all weekly challenges for points within the first couple days.
If they wanted to help new players unlock more items they would remove that stupid level 100 cap that stops you from getting more points after the first hundred levels.
MCC is almost 10 years old, it shouldn’t be monetized outside of the base price, and Reach/ODST DLCs full stop.
It really isn’t a surprise, but it’s still disappointing.
343 is going all-in on trying to squeeze players as much as possible and they’ll keep pushing that line to find how much people will accept before dropping off completely.
Infinite and its abysmal and predatory practices pushed a lot of players (and myself included) away, so now they want to see what they can squeeze out of people with the MCC. They’ve stated in the past to not adding any monetization to the collection, but of course that ultimately ends up as a lie, which seems common with them.
Can’t take 343 at their word at all, and people shouldn’t expect this to be the only step for monetization.
I take it Infinite isn’t meeting revenue metrics so that have to pivot to try to earn money from MCC. Unbelievable.
I’m fine with it.
I would like them to remove the restriction on earning the points through ranking up though. I’m tour 8 now and those extra 100 points or however much it is would let me finish everything up.
Edit: if they awarded them retroactively that is. They didn’t award retroactive XP with the changes that have been made though so I doubt they will.
No. 343 promised NO monetization in MCC, don’t roll over and be a doormat, hold them to their promise.
Like I said above too, this won’t be the one and only form of monetization they implement.
Even with them implementing “post-match poses” should be a sign of that. Post-match poses are just psychological tools to show off cosmetics to get others to buy them.
So if people roll over and accept this, we’ll see more of it.
Meh, whatever.
I have hundreds of hours into this game and even I haven’t completely unlocked everything. I can’t imagine how daunting the season list is for a new player that’s a completionist.
Where did they mention that?
I hope they can see how deeply unpopular this decision is.
A lot of it stems from Tyler Davis (aka Postums).

Nowhere in the blog do we say we are adding Microtransactions to MCC.

While disappointing to see this option added, I can’t feel strongly against it’s inclusion given that I’ve already unlocked everything. With Infinite I’m paywalled 100% out of a majority of armor pieces, MCC will still permit you to grind your way through.
That said this option shouldn’t be added unless they remove the season points rank cap and increase the weekly amount season points.
That doesn’t really say that they wouldn’t ever do it though.
I actually like this idea because earning Spartan points takes way to long after you have maxed everything out as long as they keep everything else still in place I’m ok with purchasing points it will let’s me unlock things faster
