Please do not offer a season pass.

Halo 5 is the beginning of rebuilding the Halo Multiplayer Population. This game needs to have free DLC map packs to keep the population together. I’m not an entitled gamer, I understand that maps cost money and time to make. No paid DLC map packs will allow the game to retain and grow the online population during the 2 years between game releases. Paid DLC keep people from trying new games because the buy in is too high. If there is 2 years between game releases then maybe the maps released in year 1 would be free then a year 2 expansion would be a paid release.

Knowing Microsoft, i’m a little skeptical that they’d be willing to let DLC from a very close branch go for free.
Hell, not even Halo 3 DLC for the 360 is Free, even with the MCC existing and the 360 version of H3 being all but dead.

But you never know…

Halo 4 DLC, in the few snippets i had of playing it, was awesome, and it was a shame, with good reason, that so few people bought it.
Free DLC would definitely boost that replayability.

To be Honest I haven’t bought a DLC again after buying The Noble Map pack DLC…

One of the big problems with Halo map packs is that there are Big and Small. If you play team deathwatch you will only see 2-3 maps out of a pack, same for BTB. Microsoft and 343 need to prioritize building the population. Sell toys or something else to make money.

I completely agree, but offering Season Passes on AAA titles is the way of game development and publishing. Honestly it’s probably not the developers, but moreso the publishers who keep using this stupid business scheme.

I remember in Halo 4, the multiplayer base was GREATLY divided. People who had DLC would jump into DLC-only playlists while it left those without DLC to be branched off into the “free” playlists. I can’t tell you how annoying it was to jump into a DLC playlist with a team of good players I just met, to find out one or two of them didn’t have the DLC. And then, when it finally came to the point that a majority of players had the DLC, they would get rid of the playlists, leaving you to play countless amount of games on non-DLC maps. Like WTF did I pay for them then? Now my friend has the DLC, but we’re stuck playing on the base game maps. Not even that, but what about the map-specific achievements?

Alas. There will be a Season Pass. That is to be sure.

I don’t care if they cut out the entire aesthetic customization system and sell it back to us as microtransactions. Just make the DLC maps free.

I doubt it, but it would be awesome

Use advertising. With the after match celebration in Halo 5, have the winning team drink a Monster like in supercross!

343 giving away free DLC?
LOL!!!

You mean DLc, not season passes. Season Passes actually make DLC’s less expensive.

And i agree, both Reach and Halo 4 had its best maps as DLC, yet no one had them.

Maybe a map or two will be free like what Halo 3 did with Cold Storage and what 4 did with Forge Island.

Yah, I know right? It’ll be a cold day in hell where 343 releases something even as small as a forge island chain to the general population.

Anyway, we do have a solution in Halo for this issue. -Yoink- map packs, just add a little bit more utility, depth, and content to forge and base multiplayer on all its possible permutations. Use DLC to introduce new game types, customization items, and single player / co-op content. And if desperate to get more money from multiplayer playable space, take a note from project spark and offer up forge content packs to the XBL marketplace (including new environmental themes and weaponry).

There’s more intelligent solutions to supporting a multiplayer population and among AAA games Halo is particularly well suited to exploit them.

Man if you even think free halo dlc even has a 1% chance I feel bad for you. No way would Microsoft let one of their biggest franchises give out free crap. And half you idiots need to realise its Microsoft’s call on pricing; not 343.

Why is there so much MS and 343 bashing in this thread…very few AAA publishers will allow free maps for DLC it’s been that way for a while. outside of indie devs it’s rare that any big game gets free updates - Rockstar generally seems to do well in that regard but then Heists…Either way it may not be a good thing but it’s not going to change because people have already shown they are happy to pay for map packs.

Yea, there is no such thing as a free lunch. the DLC is there after you get tired of hours on the same maps.

The only way that would work is if something else was charged for. Armor, for example. Which i think could work. GTA V is able to have free DLC because they have a cash card system. If a system where you would have the option of using real money instead of credits to buy armor (once again, credits would be rightfully separate from rank) we might be able to have free mappacks. Of course people irrationally hate this idea because they always need a reward.

Because think about it: out of all the “high profile” armors in past Halo games, would you actually care about it if they werent high profile? Wouldnt it be more logical to buy armor, either through earned credits and/ or real money, and only the armor you want to buy. If that were so, people would wear armor based on what they find physically appealing, not by what is “rarer”. People wouldnt be wearing all Recon. They would wear what suits them.

I don’t recall ever seeing a Halo season pass in any of there games

DLC in recent Halo games has been an enormous waste of time and money due to the fact the ever since Halo Reach, forge maps have overrun multiplayer, completely making DLC obsolete and irrelevant.

Halo 4 did a better job at not letting forge maps take over the multiplayer, but you still never see DLC maps listed when voting for map anyway as the game’s launch maps are still dominant in voting.

Not to mention that the launch maps are the only maps to show up on the voting list to begin with.

There is absolutely no point in creating DLC, ESPECIALLY if we have to pay for it, just for it to never be played due to either too many damn forge maps, or a lack of a decent map rotation to actually offer variety.

I would agree that future Halo DLC should be free, or at most $5, because when I bought the champion DLC for Halo 4, it became a waste of money as the maps and gamemodes were never listed in basic playlists.

Paying for map packs that never show up in the playlists after 3 weeks…

Yeah, and don’t offer it with the limited edition, so people (like me) can get -Yoinked!- over like with Halo 4’s debacle.
