I’ve been sifting through the forums lately, and noticed that there are a lot of topics about the CSR not being visible in-game. I realize that 343i is not going to put it in-game; I knew that from before the game was released, but it perplexes me to no end as to why they didn’t want to put it in in the first place.
After reading a lot of posts, I see now that there are two main arguments for an invisible rank.
Argument 1:
It promotes boosting and the selling of alternate accounts.
This is not a valid defense. Just because some people decide they need to have a 50 no matter what the cost, doesn’t mean that everyone achieved a 50 through a non-legitimate means. The vast majority of players, including myself, got a 50 the right way: through hard work and determination. Halo 3 was my first FPS, so needless to say I was not very good at it at first. But over the next couple of years I got better, eventually reaching the rank of 46. As at that point I was pretty XP locked, I made a new account, and within a month got a 50, which was an extremely happy moment for me. Now the time comes where I thought I could achieve a feat like this again, but as it turns out, 343i made the same mistake Bungie made with Reach, and failed to implement a real ranking system.
Saying, “lets erase the ranking system from the game since some people like to abuse it”, is just about as stupid as saying “lets ban milk since some people are lactose intolerant”.
Argument 2:
It leads to egotistical personalities, and the bullying of those who are lesser than a certain rank.
This made me want to gag just typing it. Halo is (WAS) a competitive game, and in competitive games, trash talk will happen. To say that because little Jimmy got his feelings hurt over his rank, that we should abolish ranks, is obscene and ludicrous. If you don’t like what someone is saying to you, you can mute them, avoid them, file a complaint on them, kick them if they betray you, and leave if you’re really that distraught. Obviously you have serious psychological problems if you can’t deal with the fact that someone you don’t know thinks they’re better than you at a video game. It is everybody’s God given right to be happy about their rank if they so please, and if this bothers you, just mute them. Bam! Suddenly you can’t hear them anymore, and if they send you a message about it, delete it, block communications, and move on!
Please, if you can come up with a good argument against me, I invite you to post it. I realize that 343i is saying that UI limitations prevent them from putting the CSR in the game (pretty sure this is pure BS), so please don’t tell me this.
