Please Complain Respectfully

The problem is not the fact that people are whining about Halo 4. The problem is the manner in which they are doing it. So many people post in these forums and villainize 343 as a bunch of greedy, money hungry developers who don’t give a crap about their fans or the quality of their game. That is a cruel and ignorant judgement.

343 was created for the sole purpose of making Halo games. The people who work there joined the studio because they love Halo and want to carry it into the future.

That doesn’t mean that everything they did is perfect. The game has flaws. Every game has flaws. People act like the original trilogy was the Mona Lisa until 343 came in and doodled all over it with a Sharpie. But the simple truth is that every Halo game was full of flaws that people like to forget in their fits of nostalgia fueled rage.

In the days of Halo 3 everyone complained about how the 1-50 system was broken. Most of the threads were about getting rank locked, or people boosting accounts, or making second accounts, or fighting fake 50s. The rest of the threads were about how the BR spread was broken. Back then, everyone talked about how Halo 3 ruined the greatness of Halo CE and Halo 2, even though those games had unbalanced weapon sandboxes (3SK Pistol, BR) and, in the case of Halo 2, numerous glitches like superbounces and face button combos that let you shoot faster.

But you know what? Those games were still fun. Just like how Halo 4 is still fun even though the DMR and Boltshot are OP, and the power weapon spawns are random, and you can instantly respawn, and you can glitch through the floor.

Now, of course, these issues should not be ignored. The game needs a TU, and it will get one. But posting rage threads that attack 343 and declare that Halo 4 is a terrible game will not get these things changed any faster.

So when you post your complaint threads, remember that 343 is not simply out to get your money. They do care about their game and they do care about the fans. Halo 4 is a great game, but with the community’s careful guidance, it can grow into an amazing game just like its predecessors did.

So when you complain, please complain respectfully.

Since you took the time to write that, I figured I’d comment.

I agree with you. We should all mind our manners when complaining, you wouldn’t go into McDonalds and swear at the employees for messing up your order (well…shouldn’t)

But I do feel as though a little more information would be helpful to diffuse some of the anger in the forums. A small thread with a simple list of “things we’re looking into and doing”

I know there is a similar thread but that’s a mess. It’s more of a “troubleshoot” thread.

We’d like to know where they stand on the balancing issues and other topics.

Yeah… They’d get respect if they didnt change their story constantly.

First we were supposed to get them automatically. That wasnt true. Then they said we’d get them on the 20th. That wasnt true either. Then they said we’d get them between the 21st and 30th. BS as we all now know. Now its the 1st and most of us dont have them.

When you get told to wait another week after dealing with the story shuffle going on right now, the idea of giving them respect goes out the window.

They deserve every last abusive comment and complaint leveled at them and anything else is far too good for what 343i and Microsoft has been giving us.

I did complain respectfully. Guess what? My thread hit the second page after 2 replies. The fact of the matter is this forum (and all forums) love their share of drama and people would rather read a complaint out of anger than a level-headed one.

It’s like how more people flock to stupidity than intellect.

Are you complaining about the way people complain?

I appreciated your post. However, I will say this, if the people who worked at 343i really DID care about the fans of the game they, as a development team, inherited, we wouldn’t be sitting here talking to each other and that proverbial brick wall over there. They have done an inexcusably poor job at communicating. A perfect example of that is this Specialization Code debacle. Have you seen all of the threads about that? Have you gone onto the XBOX forums and read all of the confusion that exists because of the way that was so poorly rolled out? They essentially sent what appeared to be a phishing scam email; something that I have to teach people everyday at work NOT to click on. You know, “click here for a free prize from XYZ company!” They did that without any notice whatsoever. They didn’t say, "Okay guys, watch your email accounts tomorrow, and the email will look like “this”. When you get it, you will need to do “this”. I cannot believe that Microsoft’s cyber security department let that email go out. That was incredibly unprofessional. They need to do a much, MUCH better job of communicating. That might lead to a more civil discussion. As it is you simply feel like your favorite game has been hijacked by people who simply DON’T give a crap about the fans OR the future of the game. It’s up to 343i to prove otherwise.

I do. Then I watch a well thought out post get buried. The more inflammatory, the more attention it gets.

He is, but at least he’s doing it respectfully.

The human being that proposed the code via email for all 8 specialization unlocks has created the biggest inconveniece in the history of Halo.I feel discriminated against because i did’nt pay 343/MICROSOFT 100 dollars for the limited edition! I don’t understand why this isnt an update, unless 343 plans on charging for the specializations in the future. Whats the reason for all of these emails if it would eventually be an update for everyone? Been playin since halo 1, have 2 copies of every halo, and i dont use my xbox for anything but halo, i have xbl gold just to play halo since 2007…I am really close to just giving up on halo…i miss the way bungie ran the show…I’ve never felt the need to speak about my disappointments in a halo title and bringing the battle rifle back doesnt compensate for everything!!!

I learned 5 years ago that there is no hope for the Halo community.
