Please Change the Motion Tracker

343 has confirmed that the motion tracker in Halo 4 will be “2D”, meaning that enemies on different elevations will look the same on the motion tracker. So basically, if someone came up behind you, or someone was right below you or above you, the dot would not show the difference.

In Reach, they improved the motion tracker by showing you if an enemy was below your altitude, or above. Before this improvement, I always found it frustrating in Halo 3 that there would be a dot on my motion tracker, I try to find the person, but I don’t see him anywhere, then I realize he’s 50 feet below me; it was just a hassle. I noticed this problem a few times on videos of MLG players playing on the new Halo 4 maps, especially maps like Haven.

Also, with the addition of Promethean Vision in Halo 4, motion trackers already do not provide the same amount of environmental awareness, so why nerf the motion tracker when it’s now at the disadvantage of an armor ability?

My request to 343 is that they change the motion tracker, so that you can tell if someone is on a lower, higher, or the same elevation as you.

Agree? Disagree? Discuss.

I prefer the 2D.

And (while I may not agree with it) they probably changed it back to help ProVis.

Well, it’s just like Halo 3. I prefer 2D better.

Can you explain in more detail why you prefer it? I’m assuming it’s not just cause that was the way it was in Halo 3.

Same reason as this guy.
Also because it helps speed up gameplay.

EX: If someone came about and tied to assiasnate you, you (1) turn around kill them (2) expect it’s below you and get assassinated.
Just saying if you knew that they were behind you, you could make a run for it. (slowing gameplay)

Thanks.

Reach radar is 100 times better than h3’s.

Sorry tried*** my bad

So far I’ve seen both 2D and 3D motion trackers being used in Halo 4. I don’t know if it’s because of the builds, but maybe the sensor ugrade allows you to see elevation?

Well to me, it seems that all that does is make people look behind themselves, only to see no one is there. As for your argument about people Sprinting away cause they know the enemy is behind them, that usually does not happen, usually people would just turn around.

Where did you see the 3D motion tracker?

A motion tracker upgrade? That actually isn’t a bad idea, though I’m not sure if that’s 343’s intentions.

Let’s hope this is true, cause I hate it when people start ranting on 343i for everything they do different.

The MT in the first look vidoc clearly showed elevation, then again that’s a much older build, so don’t take my word on it.

2D is better imo. When it comes to halo less is always more gameplay wise.

No radar> 2d radar> 3d radar.

The less a game function does what you should already be able to do (with knowledge and skill) the better.

Oh man! I loved 2D radar. Specially when going back in Halo 3 recently, there were so many people I was able to sneak up on due the 2D radar.

And that is where the Support Upgrades come in… The Support Upgrade called Sensor Upgrade sounds like it will make the radar 3D. The description of the Sensor Upgrade is such: “Sensor Upgrade increases both the range and sensitivity of the standard motion sensor. This upgrade provides heightened locational intel of all nearby enemies.”
Sounds like 3D radar to me.

That’s not true. Have you even seen the gameplay footage? There are arrows depicting whether the enemy is below or above you. I don’t know where you heard this. It was confirmed back in April that the arrows from Reach would return, better than ever, and I’ve even seen it multiplayer, as can you if you look up some gameplay.

I don’t recall Reach’s radar being 3D. All I remember is different shapes representing where the enemy was in relation to you. Even then it wasn’t very noticeable.
