As to be expected, sadly, the internet is ablaze with Halo 4 doomsayers after the recent GI article. This happens with nearly every sequel of every major game and typically, the games forums are the outlet for people to rant and rave prior to even playing the game. I know it’s inevitable and this post will likely accomplish nothing, but can the reasonable ones of us at least attempt to keep some perspective?
Just remember a few things please:
343i was created for ONE reason; Halo. They are heavily funded, state of the art, and contain some of the top talent in game development from across the world. We’re talking literally about a “dream team” of talent working at 343i who were brought together with the sole purpose of making the next Halo trilogy. They are ALL here because they love Halo as much, if not more, than any of us. They are doing this as their CAREER.
The mix of aforementioned talent includes prior Bungie employees (yes well beyond Frank) who understand the depth and reach (pun intended) of Halo multiplayer and the competitive community.
More than anything, 343i wants to show the world they are a top studio who can make a Halo game as good or better than any before it. Believe me this is good for consumers. The recent vidoc from 343i and now the music composing vidoc are solid examples of the effort 343i is putting in.
Let’s also look at examples from just the past few days or the uncalled for outrage:
It gets announced that you can now instant spawn by pressing X. There are already youtube videos of “experts” (I quote experts because these guys have no idea what goes into project development, management, or game design but act like they know all) explaining how this will ruin the game and map control in objective game types.
EXPLANATION: It was clarified that this is for a free-for-all mode and will not affect objective based game modes among others.
It’s announced that there will be drop-in/drop-out ability for games. People are now whining that Halo skill gap will be gone, it will ruin the team aspect, W/L won’t mean anything blah blah blah
EXPLANATION: No details have been given! It’s very feasible that there will be architecture like Halo 3 (or Gears 3) where you have “Social” and “Ranked” matches where social is drop-in/drop-out just for fun and Ranked is true, skill based matchmaking with a quit penalty mid-match (as Halo has always been).
Forerunner Vision is announced.
EXPLANATION: Again, no true details given. All that has been said by 343i is it will make sense when shown and no, you cannot see everyone on the map with it. Patience…
My point is simply, we have a good 6 months or so until Halo 4 is out. 343i is an incredibly talented studio comprised of nothing but Halo fanatics. They are not going to destroy Halo as we know it because they are fans just like we are. Let’s take the details just as bits of info rather than settings set in stone until we actually understand them fully.
Certainly doesn’t seem like it for most on this forum. Even as I type this there are people still quoting things from the GI article (such as instant spawning ruining objective games) despite 343i already confirming that instant spawn won’t be in objective game types.

Well we dont have to stop, we just have to wade through the threads. ;_;
And did you know that many of the cut scenes will be in first-person? That the cut scenes will be “less disruptive”? 343 is turning Halo 4 into another generic “action movie” video game, just to get more sales. Sorry they are making decisions that many of us are worried about. I had originally thought that even if multiplayer was a bust, that at least I would have the amazing campaign to play. But even now, that is looking dim. I played halo’s campaign for the epic story, the long story-telling cut scenes. Not some meaningless action sequences.

I have anticipated (impatiently) every Halo title since 2 (sans ODST and Wars, ironically because ODST is my fave so far). I didn’t think I would be anticipating Halo 4 as it seemed like a milking attempt by Microsoft. However, my mind has changed because of what strategic tidbits have been shown… I’m now anticipating Halo 4.
Among the listed features for the game so far, I’m only getting more excited. I’m happy that drop in/drop out is being added for that crowd that uses games more like a chat room than a means to play. Let them have their flashy chat, it will separate them from those that want to play the game competitively.

Nice.
I have been a Halo fanatic since prior to Halo CE’s release and have been there ever since. The more info I hear, the more excited I get. I know not to take every news bit as fact as that will lead to mistakes (as we’re seeing).
