Being able to quickly evade and reposition was the pinnacle of what made the Halo 5 competitive so great!
removing this makes it feel like we are going backwards into a previous age… and totally takes away from the speed and intensity us H5 competitive players loved …
Speaking as an ambassador for Onyx & Champion ranked players
I really dont want infinite to be a halo 5 copy and paste. Since we saw from the technical preview, thrusters will be an equipment and hopefully it will be a 3 use only.
I keep accidentally crouching because I’m trying to use thrusters to dodge around corners, lol.
That being said, I’m not really sad about their removal personally. I don’t really feel like I’m missing too much. I was only gold ranked if I remember right, but pretty much no one used thrusters and they didn’t really affect the outcome of battles too much. Maybe they did at Onyx rank, but if you have a mechanic that’s only useful at the highest tiers it’s not really a great mechanic.
Thrusters were awesome, but wouldn’t work with the mechanics or game style at all.
Halo 5 is the best competitive Halo to date, so I’m wary of this as a competitive game. It doesn’t play half as clean as H5. Hopefully the final product does.
It really does feel like we’re going backwards.
The cool thing about each new halo was that the tech always kept getting better. New suits, equipment, guns, etc.
But it seems like the creators are intent on bowing to pressure. Innovation and evolution is being squelched and as an og halo fan… it hurts man.
Just as it’s not right for me to insist on going back to the old Halos stuff, I also don’t think it’s right to insist on going back to Halo 5 stuff. Halo Infinite must find its own way without having to insist that it go back to “Favorite X Halo Own”.

There an equipment pick up already confirmed… Best of both worlds for both parties…

You do realize they’re doing this because of how poorly H5 was received? You think if H5 population was healthy, they’d have to “go backwards” and remove features that the people who liked H5 enjoyed? They’re forced to go backwards because of how poorly it did post drop and Infinite is a last ditch effort.

Personally I am torn with it. Though after hours of playing Infinite, I do not need them in this game whereas Halo 5’s gameplay was surrounded with agility in mind. While I will miss airborne ground pounds, sooooo satisfying, it made it easier for players to avoid a potentially bad scenario due to poor planning and execution. Now it is more like Halo 3 like the community screamed about having for so long (even though they could easily just go back to Halo 3 in MCC if they really wanted). If they brought it back as equipment, cool. If they never brought it back, cool. If they brought it back, I’d be concerned with how the current flow is. I would think it would become too hectic as movement already is faster when it comes to the strafe. Part of me is happy we are just back to the normal “dance” of Halo instead of thrusting. Though I will not dismiss the formula of Halo 5. As a whole, Halo 5’s movement mechanics worked. Halo Infinite’s flow would not support that as it currently stands.

Yeah I know. But I don’t think the answer is going backwards. I think the answer is working on games types and progression. Because let’s face it. Their biggest innovation was warzone. One game mode.
There’s a reason why games like overwatch, any Battle Royale, and moba do so well. It’s because they’re not the same old stiff. There’s enough variety in each mode that is fun and interesting to play it a thousand times over and over.
Halo 5 just gave us the same old stuff we’ve been playing for 20 years and one new game mode with 3 variations.
The big 3 battle Royales survive because they change things up every 3 months.
Overwatch survived because it added new heroes and new maps.
Mobas survive because they add new characters frequently.
Each of those boasted interesting progression systems that kept players interested.
343 should be trying to innovate the game modes and progression.
I honestly feel like a spartan that barely got out of basic training. Like jeez. To blame halo 5s failure on iron sights and thrusters is a cop-out.
