117 is my favorite halo song of all time. It fits Chief perfectly. I would love to hear it redone in Infinite.
I’ve seen another thread from a while ago that asked for a similar thing, and I’ll respond the same way I did there:
I absolutely agree. As a spiritual reboot, I’m hoping for something to wrap the last games together. A track or multiple tracks that symbolize all the different games of the Halo genre from CE to 5, with 117 representing Halo 4 and The Trials representing Halo 5. Ever the case, since its supposed to be a sort of “reboot”, I would hope for them to wrap some of the memories from all of the past Halo games into a little bow for 343 to continue Chief’s story from there.
117 as a single track is phenomenal. The soundtrack of Halo 4 taken altogether… Isn’t. Of course, that’s a very subjective statement but I feel like fan sentiment in general would agree. I’d say 117 is the only composition of 343 Era music that can make even an argument for standing alongside the spectacular music Marty put together for CE-Reach. It’s a great track and may even compete in terms of raw quality, but I’m not totally sure it gels with the overall mood and soundscape of classic Halo. I’d love to hear if anyone has tried to do a theme Mashup with 117 and some OT tracks to get a feel as to whether or not it’s a peanut butter/chocolate or ketchup/ice cream pairing.
Will we see (hear) it return in Infinite? I wouldn’t write off the possibility altogether, but again I’m not sure it fits the musical aesthetic they’re chasing with the hints of a return to some of Halo’s classic themes. 117 exists in a situation a lot like Chief’s armor design from Halo 4-5 the way I see it: It’s brilliant, but it was one of the only brilliant exceptions that stood out in what are generally remembered as pretty lackluster games. So it’s already fighting upstream to be considered as something that has a continual welcome in Halo for longtime fans. Like the armor, this track may just become a victim of the soft reboot.

I agree with the sentiment that 117 is amazing on its own and (most of) the rest of Halo 4’s soundtrack is “eh.” However, “The Trials” from Halo 5 is exactly what you’re talking about–a mashup of 117 and classic themes, and, I gotta say, it’s pretty solid. Think most would agree.

I think it would be very appropriate to have reworked tracks like 117 and The Trials in Infinite. Both are fantastic tracks, and there have been tracks from CE that were reworked in H2 and then reworked again in H3. It’s kind of Halo’s thing to revisit old tracks and give them a new twist.
@ Vanguard 003 thanks for the recommendation! That track is a lot better than I expected it would be! I honestly couldn’t tell you why I didn’t remember it as a standout in Halo 5’s soundtrack in the same way that 117 was in Halo 4’s.
I think a little more time spent on the fanfares and less on the connective tissue and more ambient percussive sound in “The Trials” could be a terrific main theme for Infinite. If they found a way to work some of the Halo 3 piano in for good measure I might lose my mind altogether.
I have to say, I’m not a fan, but that’s about all I can reasonably say. Maybe if it was reworked to some different style, I might find it more interesting.

They released The Trials a couple weeks before the game, and it sent my hype to the MOON, hahaha
I am not a fan of The Trials. Kazuma Jinnouchi’s style is si different to Marty’s that it just felt like an unholy offspring of the two.
It was really good but unless they listen it will be solely missed
For me 117 is probably the best track in all Halo games, but I fear they will replace this with outdated guitar and rock from the original soundtrack, or at least combine the two.
