Halo is an amazing game series but I’m concerned that Halo Infinite will be an online only game like Halo 5 was (besides the campaign). In previous Halo games it was nice to be able to do whatever without Gold or an internet connection. Not everyone can afford Gold, sometimes internet can go down here and there for who knows how long, and I’d like to be able to play the game in 20 years knowing I can just hop right on and not worry about servers shutting down.
It’s vital if 343 wants to make Infinite exemplary of the best traits of prior Halo games to build a good amount of variety in its offline modes. To me, Halo 4 was the first step away from building offline value into the game with the removal of Firefight with the alternative (Spartan Ops, ugh.) being only half available without an internet connection to download the rest of it.
Reach was a brilliant example of a game that could be played in most capacities on or offline- the Firefight suite gave players the ability to mess with the sandbox to their hearts’ content, with the same strong number of custom options as were present in the robust custom games and Forge modes.
It’s great to have a vital online component, but you’re very correct in calling out that it makes the game worthless as soon as it’s sequel is released or the community loses interest and dissolves. We wouldn’t be talking about any of the original Halo games today if they had taken that approach.
I hope we can play offline and that progress can be saved locally when we reconnect to the internet these are uploaded to the cloud
Agreed! At minimum, we should be able to play the campaign without needing an internet connection. I would personally prefer that ALL aspects of the game be available without the need for an internet connection or an X-Box Live Gold account. It would be nice to have multiplayer that’s local to the console and perhaps multiplayer over LAN for people who don’t have Gold or who have a tight budget and have to monitor their internet usage depending on their provider.
I mean… the way XBox Live now is things like achievements will still require you to connect eventually if those things matter to you and almost all games will require internet connections to finish install/be patched so in this day and age it’s becoming increasingly difficult to have no online access at all.
I think 343 has been very clear that they understand the importance of local coop and custom games and so a biproduct of that may very well be better support for offline play. However all games nowadays (in part due to anti-cheat/hack) are moving far more to the always connected model
Infinite is confirmed to have offline LAN

Well sorta…
It’s confirmed LAN is in it, but they haven’t said how it will work aka will it be like Halo 5 LAN which requires you to have a “dedicated server” aka a computer attached to your set up and still requires internet, for I’ll be it very miniscule amount of data transfer but that’s not the point or will LAN function like say Halo 3 where everything is truly offline. That we don’t know yet. I’ve seen people ask 343I this directly here and on Twitter and 343I have only said LAN will be in and that’s all the information they’re giving at this time. So we’ll have to wait and see.
@OP I agree that features in the game like forge, campaign etc should be usable without an internet connection.

Oh didn’t know that, thanks for clarifying. Considering they haven’t confirmed yet doesn’t sound good. Hopefully they can implement it.
Finally someone says it! I’m tired of playing all these games these days that require me to be fully online just to play by myself. MCC does a good job at allowing offline play, I think Infinite will too.
I agree
Yes. Offline forge, campaign, and split screen are a must for me in halo infinite. Halo 5 was a bit disappointing, but I hope they change that with infinite.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up concerning Forge. Very unlikely I’d say because lets face it, it doesn’t need to be online now even. At this point I’m guessing campaign will be the only thing available to play offline and while that’s definitely a shame, it’s the most important thing to me.
I think the model anyway is going to be like Forza horizon in that campaign will receive expansions and I reckon that too will be expanded to many dlc’s. To be honest so long as the campaign isn’t insulting short then I’m happy to buy expansions
Part of the times is that companies want everything on line and so I think the best we can hope for is offline playable campaign. Would dearly love offline Forge too because you simply don’t know if your stuff will be available to you down the line when authentication doesn’t exist but I can’t see it. I might actually start to play it then as well

I don’t care from a personal point of view. I’m connected 24/7 and I wouldn’t have it any other way if I’m being honest. I like being online, seeing an invite pop up and accepting or not, just chatting to a friend in party etc etc. We’re able to appear offline too, so I have my own “space” if I want it. I’m not sure Halo Infinite will be offline, things like games as a service would suggest online “for the most part” if it even is gaas. I feel you offline players should have the option though. Hope that becomes a reality for you, gaming should be accessible to all, not restrictive imo.
I don’t think 343 would market Halo Infinite as a return to roots and nostalgia play if they were gonna hit us with an always online multiplayer open world game. It will probably have a traditional campaign, traditional multiplayer and then a brand new multiplayer mode.
Although I’m never offline when it comes down to it, I still think offline modes are a must especially for console and singleplayer focused games.
I really am hoping for Halo’s Debut!
With the implementation of Offline bots for Multiplayer, that can play all the game modes and choosing difficulties and you choose how the game plays, and what options there are, and the bots play whatever you select and go in vehicles, pick up different weapons, all that jazz.
I just swear if i get another halo game, that i can’t play offline bots with in the MP modes…Please 343 do not pass this opportunity up, make everyone be able to play a full lobby, no matter, if offline, online, or half a line down.
It would be great wouldn’t it but this stuff has been asked for since before Halo2. I’d love to see bots of any variety but nah it’s never something considered. Wouldn’t be so bad perhaps if there was an offline Firefight but 343 or rather MS seems quite content not to go this route. The thing is I’d happily pay for a mode in the Firefight mould that could be played both online/offline but the outrage for having to pay for it would likely be too much for MS to even consider. Shame though and laughable really especially as they tend to bang on about player choice half the time
Ah well there is at least the very robust Reach Firefight and the original ODST one is something I still enjoy. Spops being playable now offline thanks to MCC was unexpected too so at least we can enjoy those but such a shame gamers aren’t catered for in this regard more
Yeh the games need to be playable offline. I don’t want my game unplayable just because servers/internet is down. Reach, Odst, Halo 1-3 was amazing because I could play all the game modes offline regardless of if I have problems getting online. The only modes that should be online is matchmaking obviously since it would make no sense to make Halo Infinite modes like ‘forge’ online only and it be annoying to make a cool map then be kicked from the editor just because the servers went down, which was one of the worst things about H5.
Plus they need to make sure the base content is at launch since don’t want a repeat of a year wait for BTB/Forge because I don’t want them to be forced to be download only since there could be a time where they may not be retrievable and it be nice to have a physical copy that didn’t need a download so I can the full game forever.
please bring back local play and split screen 343.
