Out of all the arena shooters that are now trying to adopt the loadout system i believe gow3 did it right. The system didnt have any OP weapons of mass destruction (if you dont count the sawed off) and it was simple.
I’d like 343i to use this instead of the current loadout system for a few reasons.
-
Only ONE Loadout
-
We can be given a choice to either be a precision player or a suppressive player (maybe both with a specialization)
-
Limited choices give the game balance (im all for individual playstyle but too much can be a burden on balancing issues)
-
MOAR WEAPON CAMOZZ!!

Ugh, the sawed-off was easy to deal with. The retro on the other hand was atrocious. I really hope loadouts are abolished in Halo 5.

While that would be amazing i feel that they may be here to stay (sadly).
lol no. It’s fine the way it is now.
I would also like to add that this new term you guys have been using lately is hilarious to me. “The Arena Shooter”
I have no idea why all of a sudden a quite of few of you have started using this like it’s common vocabulary for you. Halo isn’t an arena shooter and it never has been.

Unfortunately I think you might be right
The DMR being a loadout weapon is actually one of the main flaws in this game for me. It’s far too powerful and has an absurdly long effective range which discourages map movement and instead promotes DMR-camo camping…

Actually the term has been around for a while (say it like Stewie). With games like Golden eye, Unreal and Vanilla TF2.
With that being said Arena shooters just aren’t popular today.

Yeah ok then, As someone who grew up with Unreal Tournament 1999, I disagree with you greatly, I loved Halo 2 because it had a very “unreal” feel to it.

Wonderful blog.
I was referring to the kids that are now using it. I’ve been gaming a lot longer than you think.

lol NO!
I have been a round a long time and saw pretty much the entire evolution of gaming. As a hardcore Unreal fan and player back in the day, Halo 2 was nothing like Unreal.
Halo is like Unreal…pffffftttt…lol.

Unreal isn’t like Halo and Halo isn’t like Unreal, but it had similar concepts that worked well in both games.

Halo has more roots in arena then any other sub genre. It used to promote map movement and teamwork, for power ups/ weapons. Sure you didnt move nearly as fast as you could in unreal but halo is far more an arena shooter then anything else.

No. Explain to me how equal spawning, weapons on the map “aren’t similar concepts” the games themselves play nothing a like, Unreal Tournament 1999 will forever be one of my all time favourite games, so don’t palm me off as some scrub new to fps’

Everyone started with the same weapon.
-
On map power ups and weapons.
That’s pretty much what an arena shooter is, at least by my standards. May I ask why you don’t consider Halo one? Is it the overall higher movement speed and difficulty of PC arena shooters?

Traditional arena shooters played differently in the sense of health and ammo. The shield mechanic wasn’t introduced until the original Halo. And at the time I like many others screamed blasphemy. I still kind of do with the health system.
I think Golden Eye had the best health system thus far, but that’s just me.

Loved unreal tournament. Can’t remember if it was 1 or 2 that I played, but it was fun on the ps2. Last time I played Unreal anything was in computer class (everyone was downloading it just like Halo CE). Teacher really didn’t care much.

I’m guessing you have never played Quake then.
Gentlemen
Please don’t feed the troll.
Gears multiplayer is the Gnasher 90% of the time. I tried it out a few times, it’s really boring when almost everybody is using CQC weaponry. And the fact that they start with it is even worse.
We need to go back to no loadouts and start with default ar/magnum for small-mid sized maps, and br/ar for large maps with weapons available for pickup on the map.
