Dear 343 Industries! Please implement Auto-Balance and a Join-in-Progress function to the MCC Social Matchmaking in Season 7. The matches always get stale, boring and unbalanced due to AFKers and Leavers, which could be easily fixed with the addition of an Auto-Balance and Join-in-Progress system. With the Join-in-Progress, You could also improve the searching time for a match, especially for less popular games, for example, Halo 2 and Halo 4.
Join in progress matches already existed in OG Halo 4 if I remember right. And joining a match in progress is doable within every game, since you can do it on custom games with no problem.
So yeah, I guess it might be doable. But something tells me it has something to do with the way the engine on CE, 2, 3 and Reach uses the matchmaking system to create matches that might be the problem. They used P2P with no join-in-progress (CE didn’t even supported Xbox live) for a reason. 343i would need to come up with a way to make the join-in-progress system work seamlessly across all multiplayer titles while also having a “don’t join matches about to end” system working on all games and game types, because people would now complain about joining the last 10 seconds of a match for 5 games in a row. This is pure speculation on my behalf, though.
Despite my long speculation behind the reasons why it hasn’t been done or why it might not be as easy to do, I still give my “+1” for wanting a join-in-progress system implemented.
Join in progress only would work if a friend is joining on the friends team since I can see JIP being annoying if not set up differently. All standard forced JIP would do is lead to more quitters and forced ‘auto-balanced’ would also lead to more quitters since people would get annoyed if they were forced on a losing team and would make it even harder to do certain challenges. As for the afk players they need a proper afk system that enforces bans on players that regularly afk in-game.
JIP is horrible and I hope to never see it in MCC and if it does hopefully it’s optional.

I have suggested numerous times to 343i to add a idletimeout setting in the game. IE: idletimeout=300 ( seconds ) which means if a user is AFK for 5 mins. the server will auto kick the AFK’er.( Note: The Admin/Host is exempt for that setting ) I also believe that a Auto Balancing system should be in the game. I also believe that a user should be able to join in a game already in progress like you can on a Custom Game Server.

It will be in CGB (Thank goodness), but I don’t think they will, nor should they add it to Social Games (So don’t worry, It should simply stay will CGB only, Hopefully). Now Auto Balance would be more interesting and useful, I think. Maybe that could be implemented into Social Games to even things out slightly better than the alternative?
Why do you think that JIP is bad and shouldn’t be added to Social Matchmaking? I don’t see any problem with it, my matches always gets boring because of leavers, and the search time is also incredibly slow, because the lack of players. There are matches which are ongoing, but I always have to wait for them to start. A JIP would easily resolve these problems.
Lol Auto-Balance…
Join in Progress is ok as long as it’s optional though… You can choose to opt out of it for people that want to play new matches, not losing battles…
JIP yes, auto balance absolutely not

I completely agree! To me, join-in-progress seems like something that should have been in-place at launch, but in all honesty, I think the entire matchmaking system should have been replaced with or at very least complimented by a server-lobby system in the first-place. The fact that we’re so far out from launch and are still dealing with such a large number of significant issues relating to matchmaking with no solution in sight is a sign of just how innately flawed the system, at its core, is. I’d love to say the CGB’ll be the replacement we need, but when we still won’t be allowed to host our own dedicated servers, it gets a lot harder for me to see it not being almost completely relegated to the gimmicky forge-maps and quirky little game-modes that completely took over the experience during the flight.
As for auto-balance, that’s always a difficult one. I think one simple option would be to have a suggestive auto-balance that offers chosen players with the option to switch teams in order to balance the match rather than moving them by force. It’d be pretty easy to provide a match XP bonus for complying with the balancer’s request and with how the XP and season systems have unfortunately taken over as the driving reason for many players when it comes to continuing to suffer through the matchmaking experience, I can definitely see it being enough to interest them. For me, regardless of XP, I’d absolutely love the option to switch to the losing team to try to balance things out as I think we’ve all been in situations where a match could be so much better if switching were allowed to even things back up.
As a side-note, the game-browser seems like a great tool for implementing join-in-progress; if you tell me there’s a 15/16 player CE CTF match on Blood Gulch, I’m gonna be foaming from the mouth trying to join even if the score’s 0-99! XD
Hope everyone’s doing well; see ya’ll around!

I used to think the same thing, but with people quitting before the match even gets started, then maybe a rule, you can only join a game that started no more than one minute before?
Ok, people who keep screaming for Join in Progress: Are YOU going to queue for it?
For all the hysterical demands for the feature to be added, none of you have addressed where this magical pool of players will come from. So I’m asking now, who among you will be joining in to random, doomed games just to cover for filthy quitters? Anyone?

I do it all the time in Halo 5. For small populations like Halo CE, it could mean the difference between playing halo or sitting at the loading screen for 20 minutes.

yes. I generally dont have a problem joining a game in progress unless it’s nearly done. Even if I’m joining the losing team.
As long as I get to play a fair game it’s all good in my book.

I don’t ask for it specifically, but I admit that if it’s option there’s really no harm in giving the option to join games that have already started.
