Please add a dislike/downvote option on forum posts. There is an extreme lack of valuable posts in all forums. Reddit/facebook/youtube Have these options, and though they vary in their effectiveness, I can be sure to go to those pages knowing I will see new/worth-while content, whereas here on waypoint all I see are posts about how, “HALO IS DEAD”.
social influence is a powerful moderator of bad ideas and content. The negative effects are miniscule and anecdotal at best.
The effects of the system in place now are apparent via the POPULAR TOPICS. I dare you to read it at any time, other than when an announcement is made, and see if you find a post that isn’t just a emotional commentary. (sans the halo universe page)
No thank you. Being able to “like” a post is enough without having people’s opinions downvoted to hell because they aren’t popular/cool/whatever.

Thank you for replying Snickerdoodle. I respectfully disagree with your response. Popular is just a derogative way to say general consensus. The mere-exposure effect creates trends either in a good or bad direction. By reinforcing negative “emotions” (statements motivated by emotion, not logic), rather than “opinions” (statements backed up with evidence) the community degrades. The evidence is: “popular topics”.
Here is the empirical evidence for this claim and please take a look. I used the Wayback machine to look at the popular topics over a three year period:
[Dec 9 2014] [Jan 7 2015] [Jun 27 2015] [Mar 14 2016]The forum was remade in 2014 and the popular trends on every archived date between then and now are negative.
I know that logical arguments are ineffectual against emotional arguments, so I will now argue emotionally.
Gandi would have stood for up/down voting. Only smelly invisible campers support the “like” system and Ur not a smelly invisible camper, you smell sugary and sweet.
(emotion over)
Thanks again for responding Snickerdoodle. R u a Seattleite, I think we’ve met at the launch parties in UVillage. I know I’ve met wolfkill and BSangel.
Facebook does not have a down vote button OP, YouTube does sure. But down votes/ dislikes just encourage trolls and bullies to deliberately make people feel bad about posts. If a post is bad comment and explain why, if it’s spam or trolling report it and it should be locked .
