Please 343i Please...

Please don’t punish us for not reading the books.

I don’t want to find out that something was mentioned in the game that came from a book. I’m in college and i barely have enough time to relax and play video games as much as i used to and i dont have any time for recreational reading.

I don’t want something mentioned in a book because i’l feel that i have missed out on something.

If there is something that came from a book then please when it is mentioned atleast give it some explanation to it so those of us who haven’t read the books know what happened.

i mean i don’t want a major part of the game be referenced by a book that i didn’t read. As an easter egg yes that’ll be fine but not a major part of the game itself.

They have already said that they will deliver information in such a way so that if you haven’t read the books, you will still be able to catch on to the story. But there will be treats for those who put in the effort to read all the books.

No. There will be treats for those who are informed of the books fictions lol. What is up with people on these forums thinking if they ask real nice 343 will change the plan for halo4 xD

Well, they’ll explain everything in-game, but there will most likely be some references to the books. Plus, it’s not like reading a book takes too long. Just try and read them in your spare time, if possible.

> No. There will be treats for those who are informed of the books fictions lol. What is up with people on these forums thinking if they ask real nice 343 will change the plan for halo4 xD

I wasn’t expecting them to change anything about the game. it’s their game and they deserve to tell the story on how they want to.

I was just trying to make a statement that we shouldn’t get punished for not reading the book

You want a reward for reading the books, without reading the books?

And because we read the books, we shouldn’t get an easter egg or a little extra resonance of ooh, that relates to that and that connects to this.

Sorry but no, just No.

Who ever said you were getting punished? Thats your strange viewpoint should you choose to look at it that way but you dont need the books to get what is happening in the new saga. However 343 said there will be things that readers of the book will understand. There is no way to tell a story as huge as halo without books. There just isnt enough time to fit it all in the campaigns lol.

Seriously just read the books you have 3 and a half months to read primordium and cryptum its not that hard unless you are insanely busy.

No one said we were getting punished for it, I just didn’t want a situation that popped up where a book was referenced and it became a big portion of the game itself of what happened in this one book that i didn’t read without some sort of explanation for it.

well thats sorta what will happen lol that big ball you saw in the campaign trailer was a cryptum and inside of it is the didact. The on people that know things are those who read the books. Again you dont need the books to fully enjoy the halo 4 campaign but you wont be fully aware of whats going on until they decide to elaborate on it.

Listen up:

If you feel like you’re going to be left out then read the books! They’re interesting and good to read.

If you DON’T want to read them however-that’s fine! I’m sure everything will be explained in the game!

what order do the books go in?? Ive just finished the gears of war book series and need new reading. I like knowing whats going on in the background of the game and unlike the OP have plenty of time to catch up. where should I start?

It goes in this order:

Forerunner saga(Takes place during the times of the Forerunners):
Halo: Cryptum
Halo: Primordium
Halo: Silentium (Not out yet-out in 2013)

Normal series:
Halo: Contact Harvest
Halo: The Cole Protocol
Halo: The Fall of Reach
Halo: The Flood
Halo: First Strike
Halo: Ghosts of Onyx

Kilo Five trilogy (This takes place after the Human-Covenant War):
Halo: Glasslands
Halo: The Thursday War (Not out yet-out in October this year)
UNKNOWN FINAL BOOK-NAME TO BE REVEALED

There’s also Halo: Evolutions-a collection of short stories set across the Human-Covenant war.

so basically to keep on top of halo 4 I could read kilo 5 on on and maybe the forerunner saga?

I would suggest reading the Forerunner saga after reading the other books, though.

Yeah you could say that.

But as I said-if you don’t want to read them DON’T. Things will most likely be explained in Halo 4. But…the books are good.

Thx but like I said I love knowing everything. The gears world was nicely written by Karen Travviss and there is much much more to the game than the video game shows. I like knowing everything about the back story so these will keep me busy till H4 is out

Glad to know.

I hope you enjoy them

To add on to what Mactashiv said you only really need to read ghost of onyx, primordium and cryptum for the “halo 4” setup stuff. The other books dont really set up anything significant from what frankie said at one of the Q&A’s
