I just wanted to say on here that 343 has done something right with Halo 5. I’m 30, one of those long time Halo players, and only play video games sparingly anymore. I just looked back on my halo stats and I’ve played more games of Halo 5 than I did Halo 4 and Halo Reach combined. I’m quickly catching up to the number of games I played in Halo 3 and Halo 2 (1000-1300 game range). I played and lost interest in Halo 4 and Reach fairly quickly. I thought they had better campaigns, but much less addicting multiplayer.
Anyways, wanted to make a somewhat positive post. Good job 343.
How much have you played Halo 5 vs previous Halo titles?
I had 28 days in Halo 3 multiplayer and 22 days in Halo Reach…college and grad school, free time was fun. Halo 4 was 6 days matchmaking and almost 2 days of Spartan Ops, but that came around the same time as the birth of my first child.
I’m at just more than 3 days for Halo 5 as of now, so on pace to blow out Halo 4. No way I have the free time to ever match H3 and Reach, but I’m enjoying the game more than those iterations.
I’ve played significantly less Halo 5 than any other Halo. I’m really getting to the point of losing my patience with new Halo games and the direction the series has gone. My time spent on MCC, however, between matchmaking, customs, and “LAN” parties rivals the time I put in to Halo 2.
Played more 5 than Reach and 4 but nowhere near as much CE-3, even MCC had me way more addicted despite beeing a broken mess…boy I’d love to play a properly coded onlineplay capable version of HCE, too bad MCC failed so badly
Original Halo by far as my most gameplay time. It really isn’t even close.
I got that game pretty much new (or at least I had friends with it brand new) and played it multiple times a week till Halo 2 came out. Played with neighborhood people a lot doing system links. One time during our blocks Block party we brought TVs outside at night and did a massive system link CTF with the agreement no one would cap…I think the lowest kills in 1 game was 150 by the time we finished. Then in Highschool we were allowed to leave for lunch (as we didn’t have a cafegymatorium) and it was in the middle of GWU campus so we’d go to the Marvin Center and set up get random college kids to play with us. Oh, and the horrors/fun of XBconnect
In fact I think I deep down dislike Halo 2 not cause of the game, but because the intro of online play ruined the system link fun. Ah, the halcyon days of no xboxlive and having 8 sweaty like 13-20 year olds playing in a single room…
Halo 5 FTW here. I haven’t spent this much time in matchmaking since H2. I really enjoyed Reach, though, and wish the REQ system was more like the armory there. I can has Recon much?

sprint, AA/SA’s, fundamentally weapon balance, art style/sound design, lack of gametypes, lack of split screen…
you may like it but it’s not really “Haloy”…

Sprint has been has been in since Reach…
Weapon balance is the best it has ever been. It’s actually a balance now and not simply precision weapons only with weapon placeholders.
Art style, sound, and design are still very much Halo. You could not confuse this game with another.
Splitscreen is not and never was what made Halo Halo.

Sprint is beeing forced into Halo since Reach, yet he claims this game is the most Haloy since HCE (which hadn’t sprint)
you may prefer this balance but it is not the balance you expect from a Halo game, it used to be a precision utility weapon and automatics filling small niche roles, in H5 iI had arena matches with hardly any precision weapon kills among ALL players! 6 people (just finished this months placement for FFA, everbody between mid platinum and onyx), about 100 kills and if you’re lucky 10 precision weapon kills…
lol…just because you can not confuse it with other games does not make “Haloy”, it used to be more of a industial/used universe look, now everything is shiny and glowy…
Split-Screen played a huge role in making Halo popular, do you believe it would have bacome this huge deal if you couldn’t have invited friends over to play?!

Didn’t mean to start a fight. Just answering OPs question. To elaborate: I played countless hours of CE and CE on PC. My first gamertag was Clifftacular and I played so much H2 I had to get rid of my Xbox to get my life together.I have over a quarter million matchmaking kills on this GT between H3, H4 (could play H4 CTF for days), and Reach. I played the snot out of odst and Halo Wars. MCC pretty much killed Halo within my little circle of friends. We all switched to the One to play CE through MCC. Well that didn’t quite work out so we got Destiny since Bungie made it. Once MCC became (barely) functional I desperately tried to get all my friends to play it but 343 refused to create a 4v4 CE playlist until right before H5 came out. Plus The Taken King for Destiny came out and it turned Destiny into everything Destiny had been hyped to be, thus making it even harder to get my friends to play Halo. Had MCC not ruined a 10+ year streak of me and my friends playing Halo, maybe H5 would feel like a natural progression. But MCC pushed us to Destiny. A lot of the mechanics in H5 that are new to Halo feel like rip offs from Destiny. As “Halo purists” H5 didn’t go back to its roots like we expected. Maybe it did in theory but when you’re playing it it just doesn’t feel like Halo. And don’t even get me started on the H5 campaign. A true insult to Cortana and Chief.
13 days on Halo 5 so far, and I had about the same in halo 4. However I didn’t reach that playtime in halo 4 until 6-7 months after release, when I gave up the game.
I don’t intend to give up Halo 5 until I hit SR152 because this game is addicting and fun. I can grind for crazy hours now lots more than I used to.
That said. I had well over 150 days playtime across many accounts on halo reach. That game was so damn fun.

+1 This ^
The look, feel and sound are very true to the mythos. I was worried when Marty stayed at Bungie (though he’s not even there anymore) that the soundtrack of the game would crash and die but IMHO so far they’ve done a good job of staying true to the original anthems but keeping it fresh and evolving.
Also, for me, the feeling of mystery and exploration was as good as CE. H2 - H4 didn’t have that same feel to me.
