Let me start off by saying this, I loved Halo 3. Halo 3 is the reason why I even have an Xbox. I could play that game ALL day. This is because there was almost always something to work for/ look forward to. Playlist ranks, imo were quite possibly the best thing that could have happened to Halo competitive multiplayer. Reason being is because with playlist ranks you could see certain atributes of a player. In example, a player could be very good at Team Snipers and Doubles but not very good in Team Objective. That information is displayed by the playlist ranks because the player would most likely be above a 40 in snipers and doubles but have somewhere near a 10 in doubles. This shows the playstyle of the player, he is good at sniping and teamwork, whereas, he is not very good with objectives. See what I am getting at?
One of the best things about the playlist ranks is that they always provide you with something to do or work for. So, say you just got your 50 in Team Snipers and you have a sufficient ammount of exp, Congradulations! You’re now a General! What are you going to do now that you have achieved the Highest rank? Nothing, I’m a General. Wrong, you can still work towards a 50 in another playlist and quite possibly become a 3 or 4 star General.
This further proves my point. You are almost always provided with something to do.
Now what I think might happen is Halo 4 will, at launch, start out with the ranking system we have now. Then a few months later there could possibly be an update for playlist ranks.
Before people start saying that this isn’t possible, it is. Proof? Look at Halo 3, there was an update some time after launch implementing the playlist ranks. That is undeniable proof that 343 does have the ability to do that.
