Playlist idea (classic halo arena)

A playlist that is based only on forge and classic Halo. For example a playlist with no sprint, no thrusters, let the community create the maps based on 4v4, the the creators can send to 343 like a weekly contest, the winner get his/her’s map featured on that playlist. the reason I would love to see some sort of playlist that I described is that it will make forge to become more alive and to be able to connect with the creators with a weekly contest for 8 weeks or something like that, that would be really healthy for the community in my opinion! What do you guys think?

That a great idea. I would like to see

  • Classic Slayer
  • Classic CTF
  • Classic BR slayer
  • Classic Free-for-all

We really don’t need 4 classic playlists, especially when classic Halo is one game away on the Xbox One (Halo: MCC).

One classic playlist is fine for those people, and the rest should be focused on Halo 5: Guardians because it’s a new game with new features.

or 343 could put them all them together in one playlist. But yea I agreed 343 need to focus on new features in Halo 5.

Maybe a “Classic” playlist that has no sprint, no spartan abilities with a mix of objective and slayer gametypes, on small maps or forge recreations of old maps.

That should satisfy those who want Halo 2-3 gameplay.

I disagree. 343 has already split the community between those who support “New Halo” vs those that support “Halo Classic”. They might as well split the playlists too and create a home for everybody. If you are a New Halo supporter, then you likely wouldn’t be playing the classic playlists anyway. Why would you care if there is one classic playlist, four classic playlists, or even a hundred classic playlists?

Disagree. To be honest as a “competitive” player I haven’t followed much of the competitive community recently, so I do not think I can speak for anyone; however, after what I saw at Gamescom, the game seems really fast paced, and although I think that having people “clambering” up walls in an area you thought unreachable may take some getting used to, I’d say the general consensus is that the competitive community is excited to play H5 because the additions to the arena style playlist are even across all players.

From gamescom, everyone could us clamber, everyone could use sprint, and everyone could use the ground pound. The biggest divison in Halo came from the fact that everyone had a different loadout in reach and h4 which added to randomness of the game.

My point is I really don’t think a significant percentage of players are pushing for a “classic” style playlist as long as basic essentials for the game are kept consistent for all players in arena (randomness in Warzone adds to the appeal in my opinion).

I think there would be a VERY small percentage of players who would play a “Classic” playlist. But again this is just my opinion.

I hope the game can be fun for everyone because I’d really like to see Halo back on top.

Because you’ve already got classic games you can play. You already have a home, go play Halo: MCC if you want classic gameplay. Every Halo game doesn’t have to and shouldn’t have to cater to a small vocal minority of people who can’t adapt and move on.

If we went with everything these “Classic” people wanted, and made all Halo games by their suggestions on these forums, we would have the exact same game every year with prettier graphics, and nothing new. We wouldn’t have sprinting, spartan abilities, Warzone, etc. It would be Slayer BRs on Lockout over and over.

With the limited number of Xbox Ones sold, compared to the current amount of Xbox 360s out there, it’s not a good idea to have the 12-15 playlists for Halo 5 and then add on another set of classic playlists. The population (which I hear is really important on this forum) would be split up to a ridiculous degree.

You want classic gameplay, go play Halo: MCC. You’ve got Halo 1-3 in all its glory. This is Halo 5: Guardians, it’s new and it’s different and if you don’t like it, don’t buy it. I don’t understand the point of buying a new Halo game and then asking for it to play exactly like the old Halo games. If you’re an old Halo supporter, why are you even buying Halo 5 Guardians if you’re just going to play Classic?

There is so much wrong with this post. I don’t even know where to start. The ignorance. The self rigtheousness. Its off the charts.

I’m not buying it, since you asked. There isn’t enough classic gameplay support to warrant the purchase. If they said they were going to have a classic alternative to every standard playlist(or at least the major ones), I might reconsider. By alienating the series original fans, 343 is losing sales. You say we’re a vocal minority and that Halo just isn’t for us anymore, and you’re right. Fans of sprinting and armor abilities have stolen the series away from us. They have stolen a series that originally was as “not for them” as it is “not for us” now. And then you wonder why we’re mad.

Totally agree, I’m a die hard halo 2 fan I basically only play h2 Classic, h2a, hardcore and SWAT on MCC - I think one play list with classic game types/rules would be great but not more than that. Despite being a “purist” in my preferences (lol), I loved nearly everything from the halo 5 beta and having been burned so badly by MCC I want to get into halo 5 gameplay.

I think the real gem here is adding forge maps to a playlist/ multiple playlists… This is a huge source of disappointment for me in the MCC because one of the few things I liked about halo 4 were all the community made maps. Community forge creations were a big part of Halo Reach and I liked that game a hell of a lot more than h4. Great idea there, hope it catches on!!! (Hint hint 343)

Listen I love classic halo as well, I basically only play h2 Classic on MCC as it is. But you can make any game type you want in customs, and DSight is exactly right - more than one classic playlist will just divide the population and won’t do anything in the name of progress. I would like to see one classic, just to see how the newly designed weapons perform without abilities. And I’ll do that in custom games, and even hopefully on some badass forge creations from my homies. They’ve said that in customs you can turn everything off, so you can do it as you please. Halo 4 sealed the deal there’s never going to be a halo with less abilities than the previous game, too many young players that never played halo ce, halo 2. I’m not saying it’s a good thing it’s just s fact, and I’m going to play the absolute pants off halo 5 to remove the bad taste of MCC from my mouth.

Good. Then you can be reported for flaming and be on your way.

They might as well split the playlists too and create a home for everybody. If you are a New Halo supporter, then you likely wouldn’t be playing the classic playlists anyway. Why would you care if there is one classic playlist, four classic playlists, or even a hundred classic playlists?

We wouldn’t have sprinting, spartan abilities, Warzone, etc. It would be Slayer BRs on Lockout over and over.

I don’t understand the point of buying a new Halo game and then asking for it to play exactly like the old Halo games. If you’re an old Halo supporter, why are you even buying Halo 5 Guardians if you’re just going to play Classic?
>
>
> I’m not buying it, since you asked. There isn’t enough classic gameplay support to warrant the purchase. If they said they were going to have a classic alternative to every standard playlist(or at least the major ones), I might reconsider. By alienating the series original fans, 343 is losing sales. You say we’re a vocal minority and that Halo just isn’t for us anymore, and you’re right. Fans of sprinting and armor abilities have stolen the series away from us. They have stolen a series that originally was as “not for them” as it is “not for us” now. And then you wonder why we’re mad.

You’re not even purchasing Halo 5, yet here you are trying to change the game! You’re not even purchasing it!! It’s stuff like this that really frustrates me. People like you who have access to the classic games in Halo: MCC, trying to change the newer games to be just like the older ones, and ruining it for the rest of us.

There’s no way they’re going to have a classic alternative to every playlist that offered the Halo 5 Guardians gameplay. That’s an insane idea because we would end up with 30 playlists with less than 1000 people each.

They’re also not alienating the series original fans because they’ve put in equal starts, weapons on map, map control and a bunch of other “classic” gameplay elements. But you need more than that to release a new game in the series, you can’t leave it at just copy+paste Halo 2. And what makes the original fans more important than new ones exactly? Because you were the first people to enjoy Halo? So was I and I’m bored of playing the same slow boring gameplay of Halo 2 or Halo 3.

Original fans just cry that the game isn’t Halo 2.5 with all BR starts on a small symmetrical map. If it was up to them, the game wouldn’t change, it would be exactly the same and re-released every few years with no gimmicks or anything that makes it fun.

But I have good news for you: The series that people have apparently “stolen” from you, still exists and you can still play it on Xbox One as Halo: MCC. The series that has replaced it as a new set of games will evolve and change and add new stuff. So I don’t think 343i is alienating original fans at all, since you’ve gotten remastered versions of the original Halo games you can play to your hearts content.

If MCC worked, I’d get right on that.
