So I’m not sure how many other people have experienced this, if it’s just me, or whatever.
I tried playing Halo 4 with my bro last night.
First, we tried War Games. Obviously, if you’ve played any other previous Halo game, you’d know you can just sign in with a guest account and get on with it. They’d show up as your_gamertag(x), where x was the number of the guest.
This didn’t work in Halo 4. Apparently the guest account didn’t have permission to play.
Then we tried Spartan Ops. Sadly, the same thing.
We were forced to play a Forge game and do a mission of the campaign… when all we wanted to do was play multiplayer on the same console.
Heck, we couldn’t even do offline Spartan Ops. Honestly, I thought it was some kind of sick practical joke.
Is it something that 343 genuinely -blam- broke? Or is it a bug or something else entirely? Or did I miss a memo about guest players?

hmmm strange. Let me personally confirm for you that you did not miss anything dealing with guest accounts. In fact my roommate and I played spartan ops and multiplayer last night. The only think of is the Galo 4 servers are having issues. I was not able to go onto war games for a while before it started working. Keep trying, this may be an issue that solves itself.
I played with two of my buds yesterday. Strange.
A bit of lag when playing with three people of the same Xbox though… Be warned.
I also have that problem. I tried playing some multiplayer with my friend and brother. Everytime we tried using the guest accounts it said something like “you must use a valid xbox live account” but when I play by myself it works just fine. It’s a very strange problem I hope it can get fixed by an update or something.
I am having the exact same problem. Anyone figured out how to fix it yet?

It seems that you Need a full Xbox Gold Account. If you try to Play with some sort of Trial (like the 14-days Gold Trial) it wont work.
