Just curious to see if anyone has ever done this besides just me. So a couple months ago I was bored and had a couple of days where I had literally nothing to do so I decided to play the Classic Halo games in order of release/chronolgy (I’ll explain) but I went all out with it. So me and a buddy of mine hooked up an OG Xbox to an old giant tube tv I had laying around the house (no clue why we still have it) and played through Halo CE and Halo 2 that way. Then we both hooked up Xbox 360’s to our HDTV’s and played Halo 3: ODST, Halo 3, Halo 4, then Halo Reach (we did this over a couple of days and did Halo Reach last because we didn’t want to play it on 360 then go to OG Xbox then back to the 360 again.) I know we went through a lot of trouble with it but it was so much fun to relive all those games the way they were released. I just wanted to know if anyone else has ever just decided to do this.
Edit: Also forgot to mention before we played Halo 3 (our favorite) we went to Arby’s and convinced the employees to let us fill up two 2 litre bottles with Mountain Dew Game Fuel Citrus Cherry to get that full Halo 3 experience. Man I love employees who will let you do anything for $5
This sounds like such a great way to have a nostalgia trip! I’ve never done it before just because it’s hard to not play the anniversary versions with HD graphics. But, your post has made me want to give it a shot one day.

It was a blast you should really do it. Halo 2 isn’t as bad with the old graphics as CE obviously but we had no clue it was going to be that much fun for us. My friend didn’t even really want to try it and he just wanted to play them all on the 360 because he never had an OG Xbox and he wanted to do Halo CEA instead. But after we started CE he was glad I made him do it lol. Great experience to do especially with a friend you can do it with I don’t think it would be as fun alone lol.

Yeah, that’s true. Playing split screen in the old games was super fun especially when stuff like stupid deaths and unintentional betrayals happened. And the first time conquering a level on Legendary? Oh man.

Especially on Halo 2 with those yoink! Jackal snipers they were too good with their shots made the game hard. We decided to play on heroic just to avoid The Library on legendary in CE and Halo 2 on legendary in general.

Oh yeah, I feel that. Halo 2 is the only game I would not want to play through on Legendary for fun again even though it’s hands-down my favorite campaign. I think the original version had Iron on constantly for co-op too, correct?

I’m pretty sure it did. I think I tried to play it with my brother co-op legendary years ago and he kept dying and it would restart the checkpoint. Never understood that either lol

Things like that make me wish Bungie was given more time for developing it once they started having issues.

I heard from somewhere that Halo 3 was all supposed to be in Halo 2 that they were going to end the story there and wrap it up and not end on the cliff hanger. Not sure where I heard that or if it’s true so don’t quote me on that

Yeah I did too. There are a few documentaries that mention it. Not sure if Bungie themselves mention it in their Halo 2 documentary, but Halo 2 had like 1/3 of its content cut. In case you watch them later or have watched them, I think you’ll appreciate “Forerunner tank” lol.

Ahh man sounds like really good fun,
I’ve recently just went back onto the old OG Xbox myself and played through Halo CE and Halo 2 got some really good memory’s from when I was young!
Booted up Halo 1 for the first time in a while and it was so nostalgic.

There really is just something different about playing it on the OG Xbox and the 360. I miss those days for real.
Gosh bro! That’s sounds like a heckload of fun! I wish I have 2-3 friends who that dedicated and have a lot of the time on their hands

It was weird that we had that kind of time but it just kind of randomly opened up and we took advantage of it. The Game Fuel thing was awesome I’m glad it’s at Arby’s now so I can get it whenever I want. They were gonna let us do it for free but then they said they could only sell us large drinks so we told them we’d give them $5 a piece so they agreed. If you ever get the chance to play Halo this way you should absolutely do it!
