I have noticed with Halo 5 and the MCC collection it seems that there are a lot more people that are really good than compared to when I play any of the Halos on the 360. On the 360, I do exceptionally well 90% of the time. Granted I have not played the older games as much as H4. But in MCC and now H5 I’m doing well to hold my own. 95% of the players on H5 no matter the gametype seem to be -Yoink!- near pros. Is it me? Or does anybody else feel that way too? and No I’m not whining. Just wanting to have a casual conversation about the players skills on H5 and MCC vs Halo games on 360.
It’s because the Aim Assist and Bullet Magnetism (Probably TTK too) in this game is god awful, go play BTB and you’ll get tired of the BR so fast. I’ll go positive 15 and still feel unsatisfied because of how much Halo 3 I played and how much wider the skill gap was in Halo 3. Halo 5 if you even get close to putting the reticle by a person it gives you a 4-6shot kill every single time. It’s ridiculous, even the DMR seems more balanced to me, but never see one of those anywhere. It’s just not satisfying anymore because if someone comes up behind you shooting, you will die 90% of the time I even if you’re better because you die so fast.

when I first got the game, I figured I would spend 95% of my time in Warzone because I love BTB. But I’m actually enjoying 4vs 4 instead. historically I’m terrible on small team slayer. But the last 5 or 6 games in slayer I’ either lead my team or least held my own which is good enough. Warzone to me feels like battlefield where if I get one kill before I die I’m doing well. It also seems most people are playing a lot more defense using cover than I had ever expected. Its common in old Halos to catch people out in the open and kill them. That is not happening nearly as much in Warzone as what I was expecting. I’m not planning to stop playing. But This game feels very different to prior games
Just spent a few hours online and I have come to the conclusion that I must run around with a big shoot me sign on my back.
The amount of times I was killed was just a joke, but I just laughed it off.also people ignore team objectives and just rack up their Spartan kill count.
I was the only one on my team trying to kill the Warden eternal and no one helped so I was left fighting the AI and enemy Spartans.
I give up.

I’ve lost count of how often that has happened the shooting in the back and going after a boss and nobody helps.
the aiming cone and magnetism in this game coupled with the aim acceleration “widens the skill gap” in the wrong direction
seasoned players (casual more than pro) with Halo Muscle Memory struggled to adapt. i really dont have any evidence i just watch a lot of twitch/commentary
but after adapting the past few weeks i cant go back to other Halos without spending at least a dozen games getting reoriented.
halo aiming was fine but the adjustments they made for the 60FPS were detrimental to the core system.
i am hoping they remove it entirely or at least let us have the option to turn it off along with AXIS sensitivity (november newsletter mentioned this)

recently with this patch people lost a ton of kills in their ratio
i am hoping 343 removes Warzone spartan kills from the overall k/d this will prevent tryhards and stat padders from increasing the size of their digital -Yoink!-
k/d does not correlate skill. i tend to judge myself on a game to game basis, rolling k/d is far more accurate but in ranked playlists were you are continually going up against higher ranked players its hard to judge relative skill.
i tend to float in the plat 3’s and gold 3’s depending on where i qual
so should i be in those divisions? i dont know.

There are still a lot of good players on the 360 who play Halo 3.
Halo Reach was the least competitive Halo ever made. Bloom on the DMR, jetpack, armor lock, it was awful and the competitive community and skilled Halo players stopped playing after the first week.
Halo 4 had so much aim assist and bullet magnetism that there was no skill gap in that game. No Halo players who enjoy competitive Halo played that game after the first week.
The failure of those last two Halos to have any appeal to the competitive community is the reason Halo 5 is focused on returning to a competitive Halo. This is why you find skilled players in MCC and Halo 5, because these games have Halo games that actually take skill, so good players play Halo 1 - 3 and now Halo 5. No good players play Reach and Halo 4. Hopefully this helps explain why you feel like all the good players are on MCC and Halo 5.

Yup THAT is the most recent problem I have noticed is the strange trend after H3 of people being obsessed with K/D. So if you play objective games, you have a pretty dang good chance of winning IF YOU GO FOR THE OBJECTIVE. I won ever objective game of BTB that I played because I don’t care about my kd and I kept helping get the objectives.
This KD obsession never existed in H2 or H3 at all. Serious, at all. But again, I played mainly BTB and objective game modes the entire time so maybe that is why I have avoided this recent onslaught of being obsessed with kd. I actually had a dedicated thread to this that I posted this morning about a sniping guy last night on the losing team because he went 36k 5d in Territories and complained because they lost. If he had simply left the initial spawn base, and went to at least 1 objective, they would have won guaranteed. He was a very good player, but should have capped and helped hold another objective. Just too dang obsessed with his kd and…lost because of it.

I have noticed that the skill level on Halo:MCC and COD:BO3 is insanely high or extremely low. I found the skill level in Destiny to be varied, because I didn’t put the time in to get good weapons and armor so my K/D is like .9. But there seem to be a competitive player base in that game. I have found Star Wars Battlefront to have an actual casual player base which is very refreshing because I can step into a game and have fun without getting destroyed by a team. I don’t know if FPS are just going to be super competitive going forward or if its just a current situation on XB1 right now.
My guess is that what you’re experiencing has nothing to do with skill gaps or the overall quality of players in the game. It has entirely to do with the mechanisms which the game uses to match players together. Every Guardians play list, ranked or unranked, uses skill-based matchmaking. But the actual mechanism is never the same from one version of Halo to the next. Halo 4’s system was a significant departure form previous methodologies, and was, in my opinion, one of the most effective and tamper-resistant systems ever devised. Which is why so few Halo 4 players ever seem to complain about game play that feels like smashing your face against a brick wall. Guardians judges on pure win/loss, and that system will mis-judge a majority of players, in my opinion. If it judges too low, no one will notice because they will rank up over time. But when it judges them too high then you get outcomes like the one you’ve described, and a system with no de-rank mechanism has no way to relieve that player. All you can do is wait for the arena season to finish and then repeat the process all over again.

MEH, I welcome the magnetism. In earlier Halos I would always perform very well on LAN games and tournaments, but never as well online. Some of us don’t have the best internet and magnetism/aim assist helps us.
The game went back to HALO 2 shooting style which I like
Nothing has changed for me. I stink at Arena most of the time but I am good at Warzone. Warzone is much slower and more strategic, allows for an old fella like me whose twitch reflexes (and nerves) are not as good as they were 10 years ago to compete. I am good from distance and Warzone gives you more time and space to operate in. I am glad they added it as it has allowed me to truly fall in love with Halo multiplayer. I still jump in Arena now and again and after 5 or 6 matches I can hold my own but I need time to warm up and find a rhythm. Some of you cats just jump in Arena and start popin heads. Respect.
Anyhoo I love Halo 5. Shame there is so much negativity around here but such is life. There is still no shooter out there than can compete with Halo.
