Players "quitting" team games just before a win

Ok. So ive run into this many times already. Premade group of 3 (nothing wrong with that) que and play together. But if they win (i.e. destroy all bases) 1 of them quits the match, to lose rank. Now I went up against a team of 1 “bronze” player (champ), an actual ranked champ, and a diamond. This was in platinum, so my other team mates were accordingly ranked. Obviously they do this to verse players far below their skill level and win easily… Now, I have no issue playing against people higher skill than me. In fact, i did enjoy the tier 1 exercise I was given. However, obviously that didnt last as my team obviously lost its grip on map control. That and this is obviously dodging the purpose of the ranking system to ruin an average (plat = avg player) players day.

the match itself

Boosting is a known issue in the team playlists and unfortunately one that hurts entry-level players the most.
The leaving players just try to keep their TrueSkill MMRs low.
Lets say you have 3 players with a TrueSkill MMR of 3.0.
If one of those 3.0 players now switches to a MMR 0 account, the average of the team is reduced to 2.0.
The team is now more likely matched in the 2.0 skill range and will get more points against “real” 3.0 teams.

The only way to prevent boosting in HW2 would be to determine the team rank not on the average MMR but on the MMR of the best player.
That way, boosting would just become irrelevant with the only downside that good players wont be willing to pair up with bad players for ranked matches.
But that’s something that I would totally accept.

Unfortunately 343i just stays silent on this topic.

Most of the champion teams players are boosting. Everybody knows it and it hurts the game a lot.
It’s the reason why people get so damn salty after losing 30 CSR against a rather equally skilled team.
We have no real metric for the impact of this but I strongly believe it to be the reason why so many players just stick to team war.
It would help hw2 quite a bit to fix this.

Ok thanks guys, that makes sense, thanks. Ive only been back in the game for short while, on and off the last few weeks. Didnt realise this was a well known thing that happens…

qn with team war, wouldnt that result in unfair matches anyway, since its not sorted by rank? I dont care about losing csr, i just want tight games.

It’s called smurfing… 3 champions playing together with 1 or 2 of them with second smurf account…

Also they play against much weaker opponent and destroy them so bad that the noob who should play against other noobs and not some top players might never play HW2 again.

It’s really dissapointing to see a top player well respected in the HW 2 community get into that gimmick.

Yeah, boosting has always been an issue in team games, especially 3’s. People were doing way back in the first seasons, so doesn’t surprise me that they’re still doing it. Most of the players in the upper end of the team leaderboards are often boosting each other other.

Having a “gold” on your team while you’re at 1800 + will give you a much bigger CSR payout after a win, than if you were with two other 1800 +.

The main issue here, is that when you lose to these teams, your CSR takes a massive hit, since the game thinks you lost to a player much below your level. You could play the three best players in the game, but if they’re boosting, you’ll still lose 30+ CSR. Very annoying.

idk from what i can tell, microsoft may not even consider smurfing to be against thier terms of service, i personally feel its matchmaking manipulation, closer to a form of cheating but thats just me, i personally am more bothered with how toxic some of these smurf can get knowing that if they get reported and take a reputation hit theres no consequences, ive had my account for 17 years and i got a comms ban for the first time from a report from a smurf with the lowest rep ive ever seen(just says avoid me). he harrased me and my teammates after losing and i used a bad word while responding, I wasnt even cursing at him or anything but he responded with “enjoy your ban R3t4ard” and i guess xbox thinks that’s cool this guys a legitimate source

even outside of boosting, after posting this ive had ~5 matches against teams with 3 current ranked champs…pop in this game must be terribly low. So its either I lose big csr to a boosting team, or lose 2% to a champ stack. That or we stomp the opposition. Havent had a tight game in a long time.

Im probs gonna uninstall again. I cant improve against a brick wall with no backup, with already a ping disadvantage (playing from aus, explains the pop issue i guess).

You just need to play a few thousand more games and then you’ll be as good as the nerds who spend all day playing this game.

I don’t think I can get as good as those nerds even if I play all the time, maybe if I was 15 years younger but even then I’m not sure.

I remember sending a warning on these forums a year ago about people who purposely start problems but when you say something back they report you. I feel like Microsoft should really look into complaints like this with report manipulation. I’m sorry that happened dude.
