Something definitely needs to be done with the way matches are handled when players quit. It’s completely unfair that the players that do the right thing and continue playing, even though they are now outnumbered, have their stats and playlist ranking negatively affected.
If a player leaves a match, it should not have a negative impact for the losing team- they lost in an unfair match. The winning team should still be rewarded as normal- often they were already winning which is why the player/s quit, but the losing team should be unaffected, because there is always the possibility that if the player/s had kept playing they may have made a come-back and taken the win.
I also feel that the penalty for leaving a match should be more severe- if you quit out, you should receive a 10 minute ban, every time, as well as having a loss and negative stats recorded. If a player is dropped from a match due to a server connection issue, the game needs to be able to recognise this, and attempt to immediately return them to the match with the stats they had when they were dropped. If the current system is unable to tell whether someone was dropped back to the lobby due to a server problem, then this ability needs to be added if at all possible.
The two things that currently frustrate me most are having players leave and being left to play an unfair match, and then being penalised for a loss, and those occasions when for whatever reason I or one of my friends I’m playing with are dropped because of a server issue, leaving the others stuck playing a match where they are outnumbered, and the player who was dropped having to wait for the match to finish to join back up with their friends, and possibly being banned.
And don’t get me started on the servers, why on earth are server disconnections such a common occurrence? In a game where the online connection is an integral component, it is ridiculous that we are having to put up with the current sub-par performance.
One memorable occasion, I had been working on a forge map for about 4 hours, completely forgotting to periodically save, when I suddenly lost my connection, losing all the work I’d done during that time. If it had been a problem with my internet connection, or my Xbox, it would have been just as annoying, but my own fault for forgetting to save.
I have played a ton of games in Titanfall, and can you guess how many times I’ve been dropped from a match because of a server connection problem?
Zero. Not once.
If Respawn were able to achieve this a few years ago, how is it that 343, who are owned by the very company that produce the console, are unable to give us the same thing?
I’ll openly admit that I’m certainly not an expert on this sort of thing, perhaps there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation, but I really just don’t get it.
