I know 343i is trying to make it so you don’t have to lose out on your armor color customizations, but these enemy (red) and teammate (blue) outlines are ugly and i just want to turn them off. I’d prefer a red nameplate above enemies, or even the forced color schemes, instead of the outlines. When several teammates and enemies clash in CQC, they’re impossible to distinguish and its a total headache. Let people who want to deal with that leave that option on, and give others the option to see the forced red/blue color scheme with NO outline. I certainly hope others agree and I’m not alone, because I’ve been disappointed to see no way to turn the outlines off.
It’d be pretty foolish of them to have customization options for everything except what people want to change. I think I read something about them understanding the feedback on outlines and said something along the lines of “we hear you and we can maybe do it after launch.” Hoping they stick to that though cause custom games with outlines is gonna get annoying fairly quick.
No, the truth is that not many people agree with you, mostly people are happy and they even like the new system. I would recommend that you change the colors to find ones that are easier for you to follow, there is a whole range to assign to your allies and enemies.
Maybe the best way is, to remove outlines only from the enemy. It can be (i’m not claiming this is the best idea, not at all^^) a really good solution for all involved parties.
That means:
- Better player expression on the enemys (good for the devs* and players) - Only outlines and name above the heads on friendlies —> (you can still change the colour of the outline, good for players in general, possibly also good for colorblind players) - If you see a spartan on the Map without outline and/or no name above the head, you can shoot immediately (good for players) - This one goes hand in hand with the point i written, one above this point: Only name above head but with outlines on enemys can be hard to differ if it’s firend or foe, if you only see the legs of an enemy. —> Thats why it’s a benefit, if enemys don’t have outlines at all. - It’s in general an easy to remind and fast to get used to system, i believe. - Maybe an additional option for purists/outline-haters, to change the opacity for friendly outlines, so they can set it to 0 opacity for no outlines at all. (but not what the devs want, if that is relevant, put to be in question)* Good for devs because, they don’t have to throw overboard their idea for outlines, but increase at the same time a goal for them: Player expression.

No need to shut down someone else’s feedback just because “mostly people are happy.” I’ve seen plenty of discourse about the outline system and ways that it could at least be tweaked and improved.

I am not silencing the opinion of the OP nor was it my intention, I was just responding to his comment saying that the community likes the new system better, that does not mean that it should not be improved and discussed about such improvements, obviously.
Imon is not wrong, I’ve seen a lot more support for outlines than against them. KevinKoolx did a YouTube poll with 10k votes that had 2/3s like the new outline system.
I know 2/3 isn’t an overwhelmingly majority but it’s still much more people that like it than don’t.
It’s important to voice your opinions and provide feedback but sometimes that won’t change most people’s opinions. I think 343 are pretty happy to stick with the outlines and as far as I can tell a decent majority of the community too.

I’ve also been trying to get this out there for people to see so hopefully 343 can look into it.
I’ll be honest, I’ve seen more hate towards the outlines than love. Guess it depends on which Halo circle you’re around. Personally I hate it and I’d love to just go back to Red Vs Blue.
Its all about the money its the only reason there in the game otherwise it would be classic RVB but since they can’t have req packs any more this is jjust an alternative to it u know they r gonna have some hella wacky cosmetics as well

But it is no longer a question of our close circle, but that by taking a look at the opinion on networks (Twitter, YouTube, etc.), the majority opinion is very very positive.

I believe Shishka once said on Bungie dot net that polls were biased. And, that was true then as it is now. It really depends on the audience which was polled and likely doesn’t represent the majority.
I didn’t like outlines at first, but got used to it now, no doubt it will develop over time. Would be nice to have option to switch between that & normal red vs blue as don’t usually live long enough to pay attention to peoples armor coating anyway lol.

Shishka was a Bungie multiplayer designer and forum moderator who was known for disliking the polls. But he always had a point because the result of polls always depend on who you poll. A youtube influencer will get the result he wants usually because his viewers will agree with him. Everytime I see a poll on Twitter it always is lopsided toward the viewpoints of the influencer. So, it’s typically not a good indication of a viewpoint, when it’s being influenced.
I personally am okay with the colored outlines but I understand those who do not like them but to those that want Red v Blue to come back you have to understand that 343 will not do that easily. Since the game is F2P the majority of the money they’ll be making is from the Battle Pass and store in which cosmetics will be the main focus. Going back to RvB will eliminate part of that marketplace and thus reduce revenue on their end.
I believe the solution is just more options:
- Slider of opacity for player outlines
- Remove enemy player outlines entirely but keep friendly ones on
- Remove player outlines and replace with specific colored name or icon overhead
- Reduce player outlines depending on distance from target (more prevalent from far away and reduced at close ranges)

His video about outlines has less views than the poll has voters…

I 100% agree!!! I’ve kept enemies red as it’s easiest for me, but I’ve seen people have there enemies blue, find what works for you!!
If it helps, you can make your enemies yellow for higher visibility.
I’m completely fine with outlines, I think its cool that you can finally show off you armor colors on games. I just think a toggle would be absolutely necessary for custom games like speed halo or splatter monkey (stuff along the lines not specifically those games.) The amount of outlines in such a small space would be a bit of an eye sore. A gamemode like Infection wouldn’t need outlines at all due to the forced cosmetic appearance of the infected.
