Player Outlines and Scope Glint need to be gone

Em, maybe they could make it so only teammates show up I guess. I do agree with that this game does a lot of the work most games would rely on the player themselves to figure out. A Big one of those is the motion tracker in general, where most games players would have to figure out how to quickly and safely enter new area’s so they wouldn’t get ambushed and have to track down enemies on their own. The Motion tracker always dumbed that down by just telling you where the enemy went for you so figuring out where people are is a joke. Out smarting players because harder because the motion tracker just straight up gives you away, often leading that stupidly bum rushing things was far more effectively then playing intelligently.

Why should the majority of the player base be forced to play using a feature that damages the overall experience just to be more accessible to a very small amount of people?

And I agree. All I’m talking about is that the glint was much less aggressive in 5. If 343 insists on keeping, then that’s how I’d have them do it.

You can turn it off though. But perhaps you think it should be default off?

Probably feels that they’re forced to use it because it gives something of a small advantage apparently.

You talk like 343i made a lego version of halo fit for all ages 3+. You keep contradicting your argument, You claim that this isn’t about making the game more competitive but instead essentially allowing players’ skill gap to increase through player-honed skills which inherently makes the game more competitive. Competitive play or skill doesn’t have different definitions maybe degrees but ultimately results in competition. How are introducing new skills going to benefit everyone? You cant have a skill gap and say it benefits everyone. It only benefits the players wanting to learn and improve on that skill. Skill jumps for example in H5 or even H:I before the patches benefited only those who learned and practiced them.

Why would I because your post is very vague and poorly articulated? You state broad notions with little detail causing me to speculate on the meaning and interpretations.

Player collision has nothing to do with this key point actually the opposite of what you are arguing here allowing players more freedom of movement from hopping on their heads from your own point, disrupting map flow and making it more frantic which is why skill jumps were removed.
Sniper glint taking it away or keeping it does nothing for pace. If you see a glare you don’t push you switch lanes. Alternativly you peak you challenge you don’t know it’s a sniper you die you respawn and you don’t go down that lane again hoping he hasn’t already rotated. They both contribute to pace, the only difference is one allows the sniper to camp unaffected by player awareness; allowing the sniper to punish unaware players who maybe didn’t see the trail over and over. Both mechanics set out to do the same thing but one is proactive and one is reactive neither affects pace in the way you’re implying.
Friendly fire beside your point that players might think twice about shooting a rocket into a group of friendlies around you. All that does is make the player wait for them to die before shooting it. If you die from the players around you or the rocket guy what’s the difference your still dying?

Again the two mechanics are accomplishing the same thing and the notion that new players cant have to use the sniper because they are spotted is hilarious and is beyond far-reaching. My buddy is bad at halo asked him to give infinite a try the other week we played a few games of btb he could barely get 1-2 kills. He picked up the sniper and got 9 kills that game 7 were with the sniper. Your argument is pure speculation to justify your bias.

I get splattered multiple times a day how is that rare? Tell me when you are sitting in your perch pitching your tent with that sniper you love so much what happens when I come up TK you for it?

Sure I guess but where are these custom games you’re talking about not in this game not to this degree? You are trying to rationalize your point based on things that don’t exist yet and therefore making these mechanics existice meaningless right now. You can say yeah would be cool to have this in the game but your not your saying we need this to perform this action that doesn’t exist. And don’t say but what about multiplayer? Who? Who is going to take the time to get a buddy to come to them so they can jump off their head in a live match? And what jumps on what map do you need this so badly on right now that doesn’t already have a jump-up or workaround nearby that will justify this?

Point proven you don’t like the mechanic you choose not to use it you get salty others are so you want it gone even though from your own mouth that the fact they are using it doesn’t affect you because you are just that good now that you have been going without it. So then why does it bother you? You’re just saying that person is using something that I’m not but I’m still just as good as him so I want his thing taken away. Why because you want to capitalize on the skill gap that would create between you and him? or is it that your really not as good without it and that makes you salty?

Well, here we go it is because you want to capitalize on the skill gap allowing you to pub stomp and intern making the game more competitive.

Regarding your previous post, what is your definition of a sandbox? and how do you think these mechanics hinder that view? Just curious.

Are you referring to the outlines? If so how is having an option to turn it off forcing the majority to play with it? If the majority has it on and has the option to turn it off wouldn’t that imply that the majority prefers it on?

Pretty sure you can turn the player outlines off

What 343 needs to fix first is

  1. All the random … that’s in Halo Infinite for weapons, grenades, vehicles, equipment, melee attack, and shield recharge.
  2. Fix all the killing around corners. :unamused:
  3. Figure out a way to get rid all the … Hackers from the PC Port of players. Yeah its possible to hack on console but its much more of a common problem on PC and it needs to be fixed.
  4. Release a update all ready to turn off PC players.
  5. Stop releasing all this Red… for armor, weapons and vehicles. I understand that the campaign is about the Banished but it’s becoming overkill with all the red stuff in the game.

Truthfully the list could fo on and on…

Remove scope glint, set outlines off by default (so people need to look for the setting should they need it), enable team fire in modes where it’s appropriate, enable player collision in general.

Turning off outlines puts yourself at a disadvantage.

Outlines make players stick out like a sore thumb making spotting people incredibly easy.

I probably have the hot takes here, but I can live with that.

Scope glint - I prefer theb moke lines from other Halos.

No friendly fire - keep for non-ranked, please

No player collision - Goodness, I hate getting run over and accidentally running over others. I’ve seen people jump on Warthogs and ride across the map like a passenger, so running over teammates doesn’t stop that.

Player Outlines - I like it! I change my team colors on occasion to make things visually fun for me. And it does help me identify teammates. Depending on distance from players, you don’t always have names on them.

  • Scope glint
I don’t care. I don’t particularly like using sniper rifles or fighting them. Why does every shooter need to have sniper rifles anyway?

  • No friendly fire
Mixed on this. I like not getting killed by teammates constantly. And not getting kicked when someone strafes in front of you. But it does make it a little too easy to use rockets or grenades recklessly. Maybe it could be enabled just for explosives? Or possibly at reduced damage?

  • No player collision
I would prefer to have collision. Though they say it is enabled for enemies, so supposedly is not the problem for melee. It is distracting to have players constantly phasing through me though, especially when they can block shots and grenades.

  • Player Outlines
Keep. This is one of my favorite changes. Allows customization while still flagging the enemies with a consistent color.

Thanks for following up. Clearly the outlines don’t do anything for hearing impairments, I’m not sure how it would assist any physical issues. I can certainly see them helping with vision and mental processing.

My biggest concern is that 343 is putting the bumpers up for all players, not just with accessibility “features,” and certainly well beyond outlines. The amount information the game gives away for free is staggering.

Perhaps the best option is to do as @WhoLikesChicken suggested and make a playlist or change the ranked playlist to take off some of the training wheels.

I’ve thought about it more since i posted the thought, and I think there agree more things ‘hardcore’ could do to please the legacy community.

Stuff like no power weapon timers and camo/OS activating on pickup come to mind too

Looks like they reduced the glint

https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/8273360479380

The scope glint for multiple precision weapons has been reduced so that the shooter is more clearly visible to other players. This change affects the following weapons:

  • S7 Sniper
  • Shock Rifle
  • Stalker Rifle
  • Skewer
  • BR75 Battle Rifle
  • VK78 Commando

Glint = Dumb and bad
Friendly fire = Top Tier stuff, Bring back plz
Player collision = Yes plz
Player outlines = Boo, bring back RvB.

You say “clearly the outlines don’t do anything for hearing impairments” yet you still cannot conceive why outlines might help someone with hearing impairment? It is same reason why someone with hearing impairment might find the radar useful and would struggle in a game mode without it.

They really do need to get rid of the scope glint. It’s a stupid idea and inconsistent with just about the rest of the Halo games.

Outlines, debatable. Maybe get rid of the outlines, but replace it with a gamertag above highlighted in team colors? I don’t know, but it’s not something I enjoy.

Scope glint has been toned down in the latest update :grinning:
