Player Host = STAHP

This (Players are the host) thing is ruining everything. I’m sick of sitting there with a 100 mb/s net speed and some 240 kb/s player gets the host instead and completetly rubberbands the server foreveryone except himself.

I don’t know if anyone else thinks the same… bash me if you don’t. However i seriously hate this.

I hardly ever lag in war games. I think it might be time to upgrade your fisher price modem OP.

This happends everywhere for me. Even in net cafés and at friends house. Sure it’s kind of rare for it to happen but when it does it’s freaking annoying.

I just think it would be MUCH better for the server to host itself.

Your not alone, this happens to me all the time however my connection is not quite as fast as yours. Still with 30 mb/s DL I shouldn’t be lagging if there is a good host. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve been in DMR/BR fights just to watch my opponent jump left 5 ft. then right 10 ft. by means of teleportation.

As a person who plays over his phone’s mobile hotspot, I feel obligated to say that teleporting that way is way worse for the teleporter than it is for the observer. It’s disorienting, and makes you completely helpless. Sometimes I can’t even move a foot without being put twenty feet in another direction, and I become a free kill because my weapon won’t fire.

This will happen even when my signal is very strong, so is the -Yoinking!- game making me the host with my -Yoink- connection? Because that’s a terrible idea, and needs to be fixed.

Your download speed is pretty much irrelevant. It’s about ping time to the host and packet loss. If you connect to someone on the other side of the country it will obviously be slower than if you connect to someone in the next town over. I assume the system is still compiling data on quality hosts although I’ve had some games that are a big WTF.

Its called Host Advantage and it happens to every game that has Peer to peer Network playing for multiplayer. (Dedicated server’s would have got rid of the problem)

My ping is usually at 3-10 on every online game I play and at about 80 on US servers here in Sweden.

I recently played a Swat game and it was lagging so bad it wasn’t even funny. People were glitching around and when you sprint the game would push you back and forth.

I agree the lag is a lot more noticeable, its not huge, but I can’t seem to go a day without experiencing it.

This may sound stupid but how can you know your ping to each host? Its not like the game displays this, although it should. And yes, I know how to ping my connection using my pc but I’m just confused about how you would go about doing this with xbox live?

after all the work that has been put into H4

WHY WHY WHY can we not have dedicated servers and WHY WHY WHY do the WORST connections pull host?

seriousl W T H is up? I can see catering to the masses for $$ w/everything but when you sacrifice the integrity of the game play to let people who don’t even have a sufficient line speed to stream a video then WE HAVE A REAL PROBLEM.

The largest % of users playing are going to have a fast enough connection and the SLOWER connection people should be TOSSED or informed ‘INET SPEED/PING INSUFFICIENT’ msg…

…instead of ‘making the match’ for everyone … noble cause sure … MAKE A GOOD MATCH FOR THE 90% of people that are paying for/have a good inet connection…and let the slow pokes play w/each other or get a better connection…

2012 and were not playing on dedicated servers :frowning:

Cool arrogance.

OT: For host, I think you’ll find ping and upload speed are more important. Regardless, I feel that the true problem is Halo 4’s regional searching - or lack thereof.

In NZ, we’re constantly being put up against American hosts - which almost always ends in unplayable teleporting. It’s probably around 1 game in 10 I’ll have a good, localized game.

343 have said that their system is adapting, and learning people’s connections. Yet it’s not getting better. I wish they’d implemented search restrictions.
