Player Health Damage From Shooting Dead Grunts

In Halo: Combat Evolved, crouching over a dead Grunt while shooting at a specific spot on its back with an Assault Rifle results in health damage to the player. This has been bothering me for years as I never understood why that specific weapon (and that specific spot) causes it to happen. No other enemy does this.

Any idea?

Are you sure it can’t be done by shooting the floor too? I can’t remember for certain but I know in either Halo CE or Halo 2 the bullets can bounce back at you if you shoot the floor.

I’ll double check in a bit once I’m done losing on PUBG for the evening.

It’s exclusively with Grunts.

Interesting. Is the spot centered somewhere on the character model? I don’t have a definitive answer, but I wonder if that’s the origin spot for when Bungie was modeling the Grunt. Maybe that spot combined with the game engine cause AR bullets to bounce back on the same trajectory they came from.

It’s basically that hump on the methane tank around the kidney area.
