How will Infinite or any future Halo content become a better Halo game worthy of matching or dramatically exceeding it’s predecessors if critics get fined for voicing opinions? Proof on Halo Followers channel!
It’s a dark day for free speech.

It’s a dark day for free speech.
No it’s a dark day for people acting like -yoinks-.
He wasn’t fined for what he said - but how he said it. The details are in the other thread. It was a code of conduct violation.
Anyone who behaves like that is going to be disciplined by their employers and/or sponsors.
I mean, the issue is why he reacted the way he did. If he’s so frustrated that he’s lashing out like that, fining him 3k isn’t going to solve the problem, it’s just going to make him walk away from Halo when his contract ends.
I have no doubt in my mind that 343 isn’t paying attention to the reason why Spartan reacted the way he did, and only focusing on the fact that Spartan did react the way he did.
I think you are just projecting your biases.
I don’t know Spartan from a bar of soap - but a few people have commented that he has behaved like this before. So the lashing out is a him problem. Plenty of the other “pros” have been critical of the game / 343. They just do it a more controlled manner.
Plenty of sponsorships have code of conduct clauses.
Even my job, in health, has caveats. As a public servant I can’t be critical of my employer in a public setting. I have to work through official channels. And my licence can be revoked if I misbehave.
It’s not what he said. Or how appropriate it is. It’s how he said it. He may well walk away from his contract. He may even not be offered another one (as a repeat offender?). And he may be damaging his value to other sponsors.
Again, your bias. The recent media done for S2 show 343 are well aware of what’s being said.
And my point is that if Spartan is breaching the Code of Conduct due to frustration, that’s not something you sweep under the rug with a 3k fine, you investigate why that happened and have a discussion about those issues.
This is the mistake a lot of companies make - they don’t actually listen, they just react and they miss critical feedback as a result. This has happened for the last 10 years of Halo under 343, and I don’t doubt it’s continuing to happen now.
Uh-huh. So despite six months of complaints, Season 2 still launched the way it did, the Challenge System still sucks, netcode and desync haven’t been fixed, Red Reticle hasn’t been updated for PC, they’ve altered playlists entirely once again… What exactly have they been listening to, except the most basic of feedback that could have been dropped as hotfixes during Season 1?
You’re making assumptions.
What proof do you have for this “sweeping”.
How do you know that 343 aren’t or haven’t investigated.
Your biases are in play here.
All valid concerns. Which 343 seem to be addressing - albeit at a frustrating pace.
But that does not excuse someone breaking their code of conduct. He accepted the money knowing full well his contractual obligations. He made the choice and now he cops the fine.
What he may have said may be true.
How he said it shouldn’t be condoned. Being “frustrated” is no excuse. He’s a grown up - needs to act like one.
And the inference that 343 are, or have ignored, the gist of his message - are entirely your own biased interpretation.
For the record, it wasn’t just 343i. His own team fined him as well.
Being a “Pro” doesn’t give you a free pass to behave like a man child.
Jfc. If you actually watch Halo Follower genuinely. Then this post of yours holds no merit as Halo Follow has no merit.
I agree with the setiment, but calling it an analysis is misleading.
He was angrily venting on Twitter, not that there’s anything wrong but of course, the contract he’s on doesn’t allow him to swear or breach professionality.
I’d be doing the same thing as him if I were in his position.
Dude this isn’t an accurate depiction.
Spartan got fined for the way he delivered his criticism. Not for the criticism itself. Can this this forum please figure out the difference already.
He’s in a higher postion and has a fanbase. I agree that he shouldn’t have been fined but he was a bit out of pocket.
He gave me flashbacks of this forum before the redesign
.
Why though? What’s the rationality?
It’s a job. He still gets paid regardless. Just like any job though, there are proper avenues to file complaints and grievances. There’s a proper way to conduct yourself.
I’m honestly surprised they didn’t subbed him out for another player on the roster in response to this.
I almost said there isn’t any rationality, that it was pure stress and emotion but…
Point is it builds up pretty intensely, because:
Yeah… I don’t know about that one. The only way they managed to get mangler nerfs was from acting out on Twitter and refusing to play with it in tournaments. The only way anyone’s gotten change they wanted from 343 has been making a scene out of it unless they got personally invited to go in there and make the changes, which they clearly aren’t doing for pros, unlike halo 5s development.
Me too, but different reasons.
It wasn’t bad enough to get subbed out.
You’d have to do something pretty serious for that to happen.
Like cheating or say something completely hateful.
I’ve seen entire teams get DQed from a tournament for less.
Fair enough. You’d think esports standards would be consistent.
20 characters.
You’d also think aiming would be consistent… But you’d be wrong.
Esports standards are really gross and I’ve never liked them too much.
Even real sports leagues aren’t as sensitive to things being said.
You’d be amazed how wrong you are here. Insult the referee and you get fined and banned for 1 or more matches… (multiple players and coaches per year get sanctioned for that).
I mean, if 343 would just put competent people in charge and make a good game that doesn’t have enormous problems that upset its core community, none of this would be an issue.
This is two entities both behaving badly (343 in their professional conduct, Spartan in his personal conduct), and the one in power fines the other. Not really anything to see here IMO.
