Player Count @ 37,203 Peak on Steam

Wow. I agree with literally every point.
The faster they scrap the challenge-system the faster people can go back to just playing modes they want to play, with guns they actually want to use.

Guys,

Lets try and keep this civil. Whether you agree or disagree with someone we all are here for the same reason. If you’re on this forum you are clearly passionate halo fan.

If someone says my opinion is dumb for judging a game off a significant player count drop. They are allowed to have whatever take they want, Let’s try and keep a civilized dialogue.

the majority of my friendslist are/were dedicated halo players. and no one is basicly playing it anymore after the honeymoon was over.

ive got all campaign achievements but the laso one and i know ill never ever play any bit of the campaign ever again even if they release coop later, why ? because its a bad game with no replay value at all.

and for the multiplayer, 343 should rethink the franchise and really return to its roots with no abilities, sprinting and all that - this is the reason why people still play counter strike in big numbers, this game never changed its core formula - imagine they put in sprint, somekinda abilities or supply drops - it would make it a generic shooter like hundreds of others.

but afterall i dont feel 343 is even capable of handling this big franchise which is literally nothing big anymore, just some shooter with a halo skin.

My first game of Infinite was amazing.
We had 2 BTB lobbys full of friends running games together. Now not a single one of my friends log on.
I’ve moved back to MCC for some Halo 2/3.

What really gets me is:
343i really had franchise in her hands for 10 years and we’ve had nothing of value. I truly believe if the game didn’t have Joseph Staten come in we would be in worse state then we are now.

It is frustrating having to come back to these forums and say negative things but 343i leadership really does deserve a lot of the backlash they are getting.

The game feels like it prioritized monetization over the player which goes directly against OLD-Bungies philosophy of putting the player first.

Yeah, but what kind of response is important

This is what I see. They don’t understand how to make a F2P live service model work. When done correctly, F2P live service is win-win for both player and company. Players can get a good game with no up-front costs and a “pay what you want” financial model. Developers get to make a lot of easy profits over a long period of time by selling easy to make, high profit margin microtransactions. This in turn allows for continual development of new content, which again is win-win… players get new stuff, developers get job security.

However, if greed and/or incompetence take over, you get a predatory mediocre game that is obviously designed as a storefront first and a game second. Most people run away from that en masse and won’t touch with a ten foot pole. Halo Infinite is much too close to this line to survive long in its current state.

Halo 5 is newer than MCC. Yet MCC has more viewers.
You talk about how Halo should copy modern trends to get views, but the Halo game that has the most modern trends has the least amount of views.
Halo 5(2015) is newer than GTA V (2013), if you’re listing games older than 5 the excuse of “it’s a much older game” flies out the window.

TL/DR
Stop acting so high and mighty, you are clearly a very ignorant person and are unable to back yourself up to any criticism in any meaningful way. All you have is insults. Majority of your comments on any given post are insults to other users instead of anything meaningful. Learn to use facts instead of insults.

This the last time ima feed this troll.

That is really up to @ItIsEndTimes

As long as there are 7 other people so you can get a game - who cares?

Not trying to join this argument but Halo 5 hasnt had an update in like 5 years and almost completely died as soon as MCC starting getting updates a few years ago.

What if those 7 people all live in different regions and are ranked bronze through onyx?

I see a lot of debate on what the numbers mean right now and to me, many people are overlooking a huge factor.

This is Xbox’s flagship game. Microsoft doesn’t do anything to “just survive”. They are out to dominate in every arena that they enter. Sure, we don’t know the numbers on Xbox or the MS store, but surely the steady downward trend on Steam is also happening to an extent on all platforms. If 343 doesn’t somehow rebound, and fast, they will pull the plug on development for this game early, just like they did with H4 and H5. This doesn’t mean it will go away, but anything new will be few and far between, if at all.

I also see a lot of posts saying it’ll get fixed just like MCC. I don’t have hard numbers there, but I dont get the impression that, that was money well spent. It is appreciated by the fans, but it didn’t all of the sudden make people come out of the wood work to play Halo. So with minimal return on investment, that will almost certainly not be their model going forward.

I hope they do something to generate some major interest in this game, but with the heavy hitters already doing what you do, only better, that’s a tough hill to climb.

Why would PC players play this? it’s worse than games from 10 years ago full stop. Why would a PC player play a garbage half-halo missing 90% of content with cheaters and horrible optimization.

Because it’s fun.

I’d give anything to get the early access DayZ Standalone build where you could get killed by climbing ladders, phase through walls if you glitched your knees under the dirt, running from ghost zombies that could track you through buildings and balance bananas on your middle finger.

Because it was fun.

=>Ignores actual game issues because subjective taste

Sorry you didn’t like an answer to the question you asked :joy:

Saying “it’s fun” isn’t an answer to why PC players would bother with this joke of a game. There are real reasons behind this game’s suboptimal reception on PC and a subjective “it’s fun to me” isn’t actually valid considering the wider Steam market.

they just do that when they can’t counter or meet the argument then they refuse to acknowledge it and either give smart… remarks or deny they are wrong altogether.
Anytime you discuss any serious aspect of the gameplay, franchise…
reality/honesty doesn’t matter to them

Honestly, I think if they were able to launch with forge, functioning custom games (including all the missing options), better BTB (bring the vehicle’s), more robust tutorial (even the concept of shield damage is lost on a lot of new players), fixed gameplay bugs (desync, player collision, AA, etc), all the missing core game modes, the population probably would have been a lot more stable. And probably would have continued growing.

I don’t think the omission of forge and proper customs can be understated in terms of their importance. Halo used to be so popular back in the day because it was so easy to log on, find any random friends on your friends list, join their custom game lobbies, and then break off into groups to queue match making after casually starting off with some goofy modes (tower of power, zombies, cops and robbers, etc) . It was highly organic.

It absolutely is, you just don’t like that answer lol

For a week in 2020, I was playing in a group of 20-30 people in a 99¢ game called “Bean Battles”. Why would anyone play a game called “Bean Battles” in which you play as a poorly rendered bean shaped model killing other poorly rendered bean shaped models in a battle royale gamemode with blocky weapons?

Because it was fun. Some people still play games because they’re fun.

A week after we got bored with it, the creator added a “Nuketown” map because of the success he had during the pandemic, so we logged back on and played a few weeks more.

Because it was fun.

260k players at peak, and a steady decline isn’t indicative of suboptimal reception. It points out that people were interested in this title and continued to show interest until the problems ultimately overcame their interest.

Also the context of your question encompassed the individual player, so sorry that my “individual player” answer triggered your worldview so horrifically, phrase it better next time :joy:
