Nothing about their history before Infinite suggests this, and the game isn’t out yet. I wouldn’t have that kind of blind faith in them.
Collision has been in every past Halo and the majority of games in general. If anyone ever called for its removal, it was a minority of players. The poll elsewhere on the forum confirms this. No collision breaks immersion and allows for annoying mistakes, like a teammate walking through you and causing you to blow yourself up with a rocket launcher, or a failed grenade throw, or blocking shots as the mindlessly stroll through you.
It isn’t limitless freedom the grapple hook is a 3 use pickup that’s in high contention and it’s not like we have the speed and jump height set to 1000%. There are plenty of limitations to movement and speed in Infinite.
Actually yes they have regarding the multiplayer treatment that the MCC had gotten their decision to delay infinite by an entire year. Their ability to understand how to incorporate complex movement systems will factor into the map design.
As well as how so far they’ve literally managed to do the impossible in keep both the old fashioned players and newer H5 players in love with infinite.
the forum poll isn’t indicative of a majority of the community??? Most forum players just play campaign and hardly ever touch multiplayer outside of customs
I have over 2000 plus hours on H5 and 1000 on MCC playing multiplayer strictly. I’ve never had a situation where player collision made me more aware of my environment. All it has served to do is annoy the living hell out of me when I try and get power weapons or travel down a narrow hallway.
Yeah this is a fair point and I agree that fall damage is generally a bad thing in Halo.
I feel this is a really poor excuse, all that is required there is to wait your turn and then go, this is like getting annoyed at merging in traffic, just be patient about it and there won’t be a problem. I would like to see your expand more on your annoyances though, because the one you have listed is a particularly weak reason and I don’t think it helps your argument much. There are also “many annoyances” that not having player collision brings, such as being able to phase through a team-mate to disengage from a fight or take a shot which should have killed them, meaning the person who would normally have got a sure kill, now dies for no good reason.
I think this is a good point but would note that lack of friendly fire means that players can just launch grenades into a fire-fight with no risk of hurting their team-mates which makes engagements a lot less interesting.
See the problem is that I would have to wait my turn and go why should I have to do this? How does this make the game more fun? If anything player collision never added anything in for me it only took things away
The annoyances I meant was consistently getting body blocked or pushed off of a ledge I was trying to jump to occasionally again to emphasize player collision only limits and takes thing away and does not add anything substantial IMO
Player collision should just be in customs as an option and shouldn’t be forced on people
You’re only viewing it as the victim. Imagine shooting a guy and he just phases away. In a collision-on situation, he’d be trapped and you’d have earned your kill. Instead he ran away and you either have to chase or let him escape. It goes both ways.
Collision is a limit. Games are fun, not just because of what you can do, but what you can’t do as well. It’s about overcoming or pushing those limits.
If 343 just “fixed” everything “annoying”, the game would be a mess. Annoyed with taking the stairs/lifts? We turned on no-clip so you can just fight to were you want! Tired of getting de-scoped while using the sniper? Welp, we turned that off so you can snipe with impunity! Teammate stole the Banshee? Just spawn your own in! Sick of having to spawn with the AR? Here’s custom classes so you can have whatever you want! Rockets flying too slow? We boosted projectile speed so you can beam players with explosive accuracy! Sick of having to reload? Here’s a bottomless clip! Are those pesky walls hiding your enemies from you? Now you can see and shoot through them! Annoyed with missing your shots? Here’s an aimbot so you never miss! Annoyed with how long it takes shields to recharge? We bumped the recharge rate up by 1000% so they comeback instantly!
Fixing betrayals is simple without kid-proofing the game. Punish trolls. Removing FF and Collision doesn’t the problem it just forces trolls to find alternate ways to be a pain while also making the game feel/play worse.
Reflect friendly fire. If a teammate shoots another, give a warning after a certain amount of damage is taken along the lines of, “Friendly fire will not be tolerated”. Any further shots activates the failsafe of “Reflected Friendly Fire”. Anymore damage the does to teammates for the remainder of the match is reflected back to them. This can and will kill them, forcing a suicide. Accumulate 3 suicides in a match and you’re booted. End of story. And give them a 30 minute “Griefing ban” while we’re at it.
And before anyone says, “What about accidental friendly fire?” Then that player should clean up their aim.
As for body blocking? Party up. Don’t solo queue. Report them after the match. Beg 343 for wider doors. Hope forgers make awesome maps. It’s not perfect, but it’s also not worth sacrificing the integrity of the game to prevent a rare annoyance.
Yes, there are still ways to circumvent these countermeasures, but at least make the trolls work for it.
Even better I think would be to have a hidden variable that increases each time you damage a teammate willingly. Once they exceed 100 damage dealt, (or once they exceed total spartan vitality) the game still reads it as 1 betrayal even if you’re alive, and will prompt you to boot them.
This will catch even those immature -Yoinks- who damage you on purpose before you walk into combat and act ignorant when you acknowledge it.
I’m not a huge fan of reflected damage since it takes away from immersion. An idea I came up with is if you damage a teammate and you don’t damage an enemy within 3 seconds or so, it counts as “betrayal damage” and after enough betrayal damage the option to boot is given. This way stray bullets and explosives splash that also hits an enemy wouldn’t be punished but griefers who chip away at shields etc. would be punished. This is just an idea that I thought of in a couple minutes so it’s baffling to me that 343 couldn’t come up with a better idea than removing a core part of Halo gameplay.
Yeah that could work too. But the boot option either needs to appear EVERY time or be automatic. Too many times have I or other player been trolled, then killed, only for the boot option to not appear. Trolls could probably abuse this, but trolls are ALWAYS going to find a way. But what we both seem to agree on is that Halo’s boot system has been garbage since CE.
If you are solo-queuing and getting trolled by randoms, stop solo-queuing.
“Beg 343 for wider doors. Hope forgers make awesome maps. It’s not perfect, but it’s also not worth sacrificing the integrity of the game to prevent a rare annoyance.”
Here’s the rest of that paragraph you forgot to read.
The point I want you to understand is that if maps are as congested as you claim and that players can’t move around without bumping into each other, then there’s a problem with the map, not the natural condition of being solid. 343’s maps/doors are too narrow. But on the flip side of that, maybe they want certain parts of the map the be bottlenecks. Maybe they don’t want the grapple and repulsor to be powerful in every part of the map? Maybe they want to impose natural checks and balances beyond limiting the number of charges you get?
I’ve bumped into players and it’s gotten me killed. Or it got them killed. Or both. My teammate or myself, made a mistake that cost us. That’s just the game. The goal is to minimize mistakes. I didn’t blame the game for not letting me be a ghost. I analyzed what I or my friend did wrong and moved on.
Your desire to remove collision sounds more like you want to eliminate human error. Because that’s the issue you have with collision. Your problem isn’t that you can bump into other players, it’s that it’s happening when you don’t want it to. It’s that the negative side of a certain trait imposed on you occasionally occurs. You wanna get rid of reloading because the mechanic prevented you from finishing a kill too?
And have you considered that in all of this “bumping into idiot teammates” that maybe you’re the “idiot” and your teammates feel the same way towards you? Because I certainly haven’t collided with as many players as you have apparently.
If there shooting at something I usually look at the thing they are shooting so I can get a kill?
Tunnel vision much? Try shooting the target while avoiding your teammate?
Player collision should definitely be ON. You have to improve on knowing the positions of your teammates and the flow of the maps. If there are any chokepoints happening constantly it is because of bad map design, not player collision.
Friendly fire should also be on, it changes so much about the engaging tactics.
Falling dmg should be off tho due to extra verticality in the larger BTB maps.
